SEASONED political observer Joe Kemmy says it's likely that Elisa O'Donovan will take the fourth and final seat in Limerick City. The Social Democrats councillor received a huge transfer of 339 votes from People Before Profit-Solidarity candidate Ruairi Fahy in the last count. She has moved 363 votes clear of her nearest rival, Dee Ryan - and 391 clear of Cllr Conor Sheehan, Labour. LIVE BLOG: General Election results from Limerick Now, Mr Kemmy, who is director of elections on the Labour campaign, has said he believes the gap is now too wide for his candidate to bridge. "The deficit is too big to make up. We don't give up, because there are a big bloc of votes to be dished out yet. But the Social Democrats seem to have the wind at their back. She is transferring well, and I think we will find it difficult to overhaul Elisa O'Donovan at this stage," he said. Mr Kemmy - who correctly predicted the mayoral election outcome three days before the declaration - added: "When a party gets a bounce as Labour get it, sometimes Sinn Fein get it, the Social Democrats got it this time, the brand delivers a certain percentage of the vote." "She is the beneficiary of that swing. Fair play to her. I think she will win, but she hasn't won yet. We'll finish fifth at worst in a four-seater constituency, which is never a nice place to finish. Conor is a young man, if he doesn't make it this time, I'm sure he will be back next time. He's a good worker and he will graft away." "But I do expect Elisa O'Donovan to be the next TD in Limerick," he concluded.Chesapeake Utilities ( NYSE:CPK – Get Free Report ) had its price target lifted by equities research analysts at Guggenheim from $118.00 to $129.00 in a research report issued to clients and investors on Friday, Benzinga reports. SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Brock Purdy threw one short pass in the open portion of practice for the San Francisco 49ers as he remains slowed by an injury to his throwing shoulder that has already forced him to miss a game. Purdy spent the bulk of the session of Wednesday's practice open to reporters as either a spectator or executing handoffs outside of one short pass to Jordan Mason. Purdy hurt his shoulder during a loss to Seattle on Nov. 17. He tried to throw at practice last Thursday but had soreness in his right shoulder and shut it down. He missed a loss to Green Bay but was able to do some light throwing on Monday. His status for this week remains in doubt as the Niners (5-6) prepare to visit Buffalo on Sunday night. Purdy isn't the only key player for San Francisco dealing with injuries. Left tackle Trent Williams and defensive end Nick Bosa remain sidelined at practice Wednesday after missing last week's game. Williams was using a scooter to get around the locker room as he deals with a left ankle injury. Bosa has been out with injuries to his left hip and oblique. Bosa said the week off helped him make progress and that he hopes to be able to take part in individual drills later in the week. Bosa wouldn't rule out being able to play on Sunday. "It’s feeling a lot better,” Bosa said. “Still need to get better before I’m ready to go. This week will be big and I’ll know a lot more in the next couple of days.” Running back Christian McCaffrey has been able to play, but isn't back to the form that helped him win AP Offensive Player of the Year in 2023 after missing the first eight games this season with Achilles tendinitis. McCaffrey has 149 yards rushing in three games back with his 3.5 yards per carry down significantly from last season's mark of 5.4. But he is confident he will be able to get back to his usual level of play. “When you lose and maybe you don’t jump out on the stat sheet, your failures are highlighted,” he said. “I’m happy I’m out here playing football and I just know with time it will come.” Coach Kyle Shanahan said he has liked what he has seen from McCaffrey, adding that there hasn't been much room to run in recent weeks. But Shanahan said it takes time to get back to speed after McCaffrey had almost no practice time for nine months. “Guys who miss offseasons and miss training camp, usually it takes them a little bit of time at the beginning of the year to get back into how they were the year before, let alone missing half the season also on top of that,” Shanahan said. “I think Christian’s doing a hell of a job. But to just think him coming back in Week 8 with not being able to do anything for the last nine months or whatever it is, and to think he’s just going to be in MVP form is a very unrealistic expectation.” NOTES: LB Dre Greenlaw took part in his first practice since tearing his Achilles tendon in the Super Bowl. Greenlaw will likely need a couple of weeks of practice before being able to play. ... LB Fred Warner said he has been dealing with a fracture in his ankle since Week 4 and is doing his best to manage the pain as he plays through it. ... CB Deommodore Lenoir didn't practice after banging knees on Sunday. His status for this week remains in question. ... DT Jordan Elliott (concussion), OL Aaron Banks (concussion) and LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (knee) also didn't practice. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFLWASHINGTON — As president-elect Donald Trump rattles his closest neighbours with threats of tariffs, he is also firming up the team of loyalists to put his plans into action. Trump's team to lead his trade agenda and the American economy include trade lawyers, former advisers and Wall Street executives who have all expressed favourable views of tariffs. "He's choosing a lot of people who are going to be loyal to him and his ideas," said Matthew Lebo, a specialist in U.S. politics at Western University in London, Ont. "And that probably will lead to a lot more volatility than even we saw in the first term." On Tuesday evening, Trump picked Jamieson Greer to be U.S. trade representative. The president-elect said Greer played a key role in the first Trump administration imposing tariffs on China and negotiating the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement. If confirmed, Greer will oversee the trade pact’s review in 2026. "Jamieson will focus the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative on reining in the country's massive trade deficit, defending American manufacturing, agriculture, and services, and opening up export markets everywhere," Trump said in a statement. Greer was the chief of staff to former U.S. trade representative Robert Lighthizer as the trilateral agreement was being crafted to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement, which was torn up last time Trump entered office. Greer's nomination came the day after Trump said he will impose a 25 per cent import tariff on goods coming from Canada and Mexico. He has also announced an additional 10 per cent tariff on goods from China. Trump said the tariffs against Canada and Mexico would remain in place until both countries stop people and drugs, in particular fentanyl, from illegally crossing the border into the U.S. A Canadian Chamber of Commerce report suggested Trump’s previous pledge to impose a 10 per cent levy would take a $30-billion bite out of the Canadian economy. More than 77 per cent of Canadian exports go to the U.S. and trade comprises 60 per cent of Canada's gross domestic product. Some economists have warned across-the-board duties would cause inflation in the U.S., even though Trump campaigned on lowering costs for Americans. Greer was deeply involved in Trump's original sweeping tariffs on China and subsequent negotiations on the U.S.-China Phase 1 trade agreement, online biographies say. In testimony about China's trade agenda at a House trade subcommittee last year, Greer said he believes "good fences make good neighbours, and trade enforcement is an important part of establishing those fences." On Tuesday, Trump also tapped Kevin Hassett to be the director of the White House National Economic Council. The role will be key in fulfilling Trump's campaign promise to fix the U.S. economy. His announcement said Hassett will also "ensure that we have fair trade with countries that have taken advantage of the United States in the past." Hassett served during the first Trump term as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and the president-elect has called him a "true friend." The latest nominations round out an economic team that includes hedge fund executive Scott Bessent for Treasury secretary and Howard Lutnick, the CEO of Wall Street investment bank Cantor Fitzgerald, who was tapped for commerce secretary. If confirmed by the Senate, Lutnick would oversee a sprawling cabinet agency and Trump's tariff agenda. He has been a vocal supporter of Trump's tariff plans. In an CNBC interview in September he said tariffs are "an amazing tool for the president to use — we need to protect the American worker." Lebo said as Trump prepares to return to office he is removing any person who could prove to be a guardrail or check on his power. "These are people aligned with Trump," Lebo said. "More and more aligned with his campaign rhetoric." EDITORIAL The disturbing and dark content Kiwi kids are being exposed to online has again hit headlines. And again, it has signalled the need for both billion-dollar social media companies and parents to step up and take greater responsibility. It also raises questions regarding whether New Zealand should follow Australia’s strong lead and ban children under 16 from the platforms to protect them from any online harm. Documentarian Nadia Maxwell conducted an experiment to see how quickly things took a sinister turn by setting up a TikTok account for a “13-year-old girl”.

OMAHA — Creighton did it again. In an in-state women’s college basketball series with Nebraska largely dictated by what happens beyond the 3-point arc, the Jays rallied with six 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to beat No. 21 Nebraska 80-74 on Friday at Sokol Arena. At one point in the fourth quarter, the Jays made four straight 3-pointers. The Jays were 6 for 9 on threes in the fourth quarter and 13 for 29 for the game to give Nebraska its first loss to the season. The Jays outscored Nebraska by 24 points on 3-pointers. Creighton has won three straight in the series. Lauren Jensen had a game-high 31 points for the Jays with four 3s. Morgan Maly, a senior from Crete, scored 18. Alexis Markowski worked really hard for Nebraska, finishing with 26 points and 12 rebounds and calling for the ball inside where she often had an advantage. People are also reading... Britt Prince added 20 points in the first game against her hometown school. Nebraska led 55-52 to start the fourth quarter. For the final 10 minutes, one of the questions was how much did Markowski have left? And also, could the Huskers defend the 3-point line just a little longer? The Jays made two of their first three 3-point attempts to start the quarter to regain a 60-57 lead. Molly Mogensen had the first one, and Jensen the second for her fourth of the game. When Mogensen made another three the Jays led 72-66. The Jays sealed the deal when Prince missed a 3-pointer with seven seconds left and the Jays made their free throws. Nebraska led 22-19 after the first quarter. It was an entertaining start. The game started with Markowski going at Maly inside the paint, the Nebraska natives who played in the same club in Lincoln. There were five combined 3-pointers, with three for the Jays and two for Nebraska (each from Prince). Creighton used a 13-2 run that included three 3-pointers to take a 15-8 lead. But Nebraska got back in it with a steal and layup from Allison Weidner and a take to the basket from Callin Hake. Creighton added two more 3-pointers in the second quarter, but Nebraska was able to keep a lead at halftime 37-35. Reach the writer at 402-473-7435 or bwagner@journalstar.com . Editorial: Still waters run deepThe Witcher 4 is finally in full production, as CD Projekt announced during its Q3 financial update . The game, which is still codenamed Project Polaris, moved into full-scale production several weeks ago, chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz said. Speaking to Eurogamer , CD Projekt Red's vice president of technology, Charles Tremblay, discussed the switch from the internally developed REDengine, last used on Cyberpunk 2077, to Unreal Engine 5. "I will not say it's easy," he said, "but I think that we have some cool stuff going, and hopefully that will have some good showcase [of the technology]. The only thing I will say is that changing the tech for us does not change the fact that we always will be ambitious". Tremblay went on to declare Project Polaris, which is currently being worked on by 400 members of CDPR's 650-strong staff, would be bigger and better than anything the studio had done before. "And the next game we do will not be smaller, and it will not be worse. So it will be better, bigger, greater than The Witcher 3, it will be better than Cyberpunk—because for us, it's unacceptable [to launch that way]. We don't want to go back." Changing to a completely different engine can't be easy, and Tremblay didn't deny that there would be issues. "Even if there will be some 'sweaty moments' and maybe even some bad stuff happening," he said, "still, I think that we will try everything we can to make it even more than what we achieved in the past years. So the technology should not be a blocker for us, basically." The next Witcher game doesn't have a release date yet, and given the multiple delays of Cyberpunk 2077 it wouldn't be surprising if the studio waited until it had really nailed down the schedule before announcing anything. No. 21 Nebraska women lose the 3-point battle, and an entertaining game, to CreightonHead coach Ryan Day looked a little shell-shocked as police were pepper spraying athletes in the aftermath of the Michigan Wolverine's upsetting his No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes 13-10 on Saturday. Day has a 1-4 record against Michigan. The Wolverines have won four consecutive games in the series, with the Buckeyes' last win over Michigan coming in 2019. This loss for Ohio State feels different in 2024, as Jim Harbaugh wasn't on the opposite sideline of Day. The Wolverines entered the contest with a 6-5 record in an otherwise disappointing season. The Buckeyes blew an opportunity to clinch a berth in the Big Ten Championship Game with a win over their rival on Saturday. Now they must wait for help. Following the game, Michigan brought a team flag onto the field. Ohio State defensive end Jack Sawyer didn't like the gesture and would rip the flag away from the Wolverines as a brawl would break out at Ohio Stadium. Video on the field showed Sawyer talking to a member of Ohio State's staff, passionately yelling that Michigan wouldn't plant a flag on their field again. Ryan Day just appeared to stand in silence watching the scene unfold. A passionate Jack Sawyer after Michigan players attempted to plant their flag on the “Block O”. pic.twitter.com/t5XKLY0NeI Former Texas Longhorns and NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho called out Day on social media for his inaction during the situation. "Ryan Day, the HEAD coach, just stands there and does nothing as his senior Captain, Jack Sawyer, devastatingly cries out: “THEY’RE NOT (expletive) PLANTING A FLAG ON OUR (expletive) FIELD AGAIN” When coaches must lead, Coach Day freezes in the midst of Chaos," Acho posted . Adam Cairns/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Many fans agreed in the comments. "Day should get fired and that team should sit out the CFP for this. Embarrassing," wrote a fan. "Day was caught up in the fog of war," posted another. Related: Fans Demand Justice After Michigan Player Was Unfairly Pepper Sprayed By Police

Dibrugarh: In a heartwarming celebration of love and community, a resident of Dibrugarh town orchestrated a grand mass wedding for 21 couples, all while marking his own daughter’s special day. The North Assam provincial committee of the social organisation Dharm Jagran Samanvay conducted the Vedic wedding rituals at the Shree Agrasen Milan Mandir in Dibrugarh. This unique event was the brainchild of social worker Sudhir Kejriwal and his family, who decided to share their joy by bringing together these couples in holy matrimony. The event was inaugurated by Dibrugarh Mayor Saikat Patra. Expressing his joy about organizing the mass wedding, Sudhir Kejriwal said that when his daughter’s marriage was fixed a year ago, the idea of such an event came to his mind. “We discussed it with Dharm Jagran Samanvay, and the mass wedding was organized to coincide with my daughter’s marriage. Some people spend extensively on weddings, while many are deprived of proper marriages due to financial constraints. I’m very happy to be part of this program,” Kejriwal said.
