STORM Bert battered Ireland today causing flooding and landslides across the country. The ESB were tonight trying to reconnect 11,000 customers — after 60,000 woke up without power today. The worst affected counties were Donegal , Sligo , Mayo and Galway . A clean-up operation was under way in Killybegs, Co Donegal, after flooding caused serious damage to businesses and households overnight. Shocking videos posted on social media showed water rushing down the roads and taking cars with it. The water depth hit as high as the windows on some homes and completely engulfed parked cars. And there was a river-like stream of water flowing down Bridge Street. Due to the River Feale flooding, Listowel Racecourse in Co Kerry was completely submerged in water . The flood height surpassed four metres — a depressing new record. Elsewhere in Shramore, Newport, Co Mayo, there were mudslides that took out a number of trees. In Maam, Co Galway, a landslide left roads unusable — with only a slight patch of tarmac still visible after Storm Bert passed through. And in Cork , the village of Béal Átha an Ghaorthaidh was heavily flooded and impassable for a time. Today Tanaiste Micheal Martin said the flooding was a “terrible thing” and told how “schemes are open” for those affected. He told RTE the Government will do “everything we possibly can to help households and to help businesses in the affected areas”. One of those affected was Rebecca Mullen, whose Flour House bakery in Riverstick, Co Cork, was flooded. It was also engulfed by water last October, with grants from the Red Cross helping them survive. She said: “I’ve done deliveries of cakes today where I can to the people who have ordered, but now it’s the clean-up. It’s the cost of getting the staff back in, working out what is salvageable and what isn’t. “Every day counts. You can’t miss a day’s trade. I think that’s what’s going to really hurt us. “Every single piece of coinage is required to get us through.” Weather bosses are warning that thunder could be on the way, possibly bringing hail as well as heavy rain showers. Seven counties will be under three separate weather alerts tomorrow night. Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Kerry, Clare, Galway and Donegal are all set to feel the continued wrath of Bert. Met Eireann are warning of “strong to gale force and very gusty south to southwest winds, veering westerly on Sunday night”. Storm Bert will begin to ease off as we enter tomorrow morning. Forecasters say Monday will see “sunny spells and scattered blustery showers with a chance of hail, most frequent for Atlantic counties”. They add: “Fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds at first will moderate through the day.”

Rules on living in a car CAR LIVING is on the up as people struggle to deal with the cost of living crisis, and others are seeking a nomadic existence. Here’s all we know about the rules on car life in the UK. In the UK, you are legally allowed to live in your car— just so long as you follow a few rules. The only requirement is that your car has passed its MOT and is entirely road-legal. If legally parked, there aren’t rules against sleeping or living in a car. The trend of car or van living has taken off in the United States, where some have been forced to leave rented accommodation after landlords put up the rent. Others have opted to live in their vehicle in pursuit of a free, nomadic lifestyle , where they can travel all over the country. There are certain circumstances in which it’s not legal to sleep in a car in the UK. Firstly, you must be in a safe parking spot, not in violation of any parking restrictions. Certain car parks, lay-bys, and national parks and forests have restrictions on overnight parking, which means you can’t sleep there in a vehicle. If restrictions are broken, you could be fined or even have your vehicle towed. Secondly, you must not be above the legal drink-drive limit or under the influence of any drugs, if you intend to sleep in your car. If over the limit, you could be charged with being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle in a public place, even if you’re not driving. The ban on sleeping in your car when you're drunk comes under the Road Traffic Act 1988. The rule says you can be found guilty of an offence if in charge of a vehicle on a road or public place “after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath, blood or urine exceeds the prescribed limit.” “I do salvage deer roadkill for food and other animal roadkill for clothing. “I have a garden and grow simple vegetables in it like peppers, tomatoes and squash. “Sometimes, when I'm able, I hunt for meat – mostly deer. Advertisement “One deer will usually have enough meat to last me a year and I can the meat to preserve it since I don't have access to a chest freezer. She said: “I tan buckskin and fur pelts and turn the skins into bags, clothes, and other items. Advertisement Pros and cons of living on a house boat Houseboats can be cheaper than buying a home on dry land but doesn't come without risks. You may be able to get a special type of mortgage for a boat, but it can be more difficult than getting a traditional home loan and have higher rates of interest. You won't pay stamp duty when buying a boat to live on, and you can move to a different location whenever you want without having to sell up. You might even be able to live in a location where you wouldn't be able to afford a bricks and mortar house. But space can be more limited, and the value of houseboats can generally go down over time, like a car or motorbike. A licence which you need from the canal and river trust can cost anywhere between £510 and £1,100 a year depending on the size of the boat. There are likely to be ongoing costs for maintenance and mooring as well as fuel, a boat safety certificate and, of course, insurance. There’s always something that needs to be done on a boat – from engine servicing to treating rust spots, not to mention emptying the toilet and filling the water tank. Energy bills could be higher on the boat than a home as they are generally harder to insulate. If your boat is moored permanently, it will typically be in the lowest tax band, with single occupants benefiting from a 25% reduction. However, if you’re happy to move every two weeks as a ‘continuous cruiser,’ you won’t have to pay this “The negativity doesn't bother me as much as it used to, as being on social media tends to come with criticism no matter what you do. “I think the only downside [to my lifestyle] is having very few people to relate my perspectives to. “Living this way for years transforms a person both emotionally and psychologically that deviates from the “normal” modality of thinking. “At times I feel distanced from the frivolous concerns of domesticated society which brings about a sense of futility when it comes to my own efforts. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake girls volleyball falls just short in state finalCarolina Panthers tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders was taken to a hospital for a neck injury after landing on his head while making a catch late in the first half of Sunday's 30-27 home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. As Sanders was brought down near the sideline after a 10-yard reception, he was flipped upside down and landed directly on the top of his helmet as he went out of bounds on the tackle by cornerback Trent McDuffie. After receiving attention from the team's medical staff, Sanders was strapped to a backboard and taken off the field on a cart with 40 seconds remaining in the half. He was taken to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for observation and later released Sunday afternoon, according to the team. On the CBS broadcast following halftime, Panthers head coach Dave Canales said Sanders had movement in all his extremities, while extreme precaution was taken because of back tightness. CBS reported he was being examined for a concussion before later amending that to a neck injury. The 21-year-old rookie out of Texas had a team-leading three receptions for the Panthers at the half for 49 yards. In 11 games this season, Sanders has 29 receptions for 302 yards and a touchdown. Sanders was a fourth-round selection in the NFL draft in April. --Field Level Media

(AP Photo/Jacob Kupferman) CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw for 269 yards and three touchdowns , Spencer Shrader kicked a 31-yard field goal as time expired and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Carolina Panthers 30-27 on Sunday to reach double-digit wins for the 10th straight season. Noah Gray caught two TD passes as the Chiefs (10-1) bounced back from last week’s 30-21 loss at Buffalo and won at the buzzer yet again in a season of narrow escapes. DeAndre Hopkins also had a touchdown catch for the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, who scored on their first five possessions. Bryce Young finished 21 of 35 for 262 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers (3-8), who had their two-game winning streak snapped. David Moore had six receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown. Trailing 27-19, Young completed a fourth-down pass to Adam Thielen to move the chains, then went deep for the veteran receiver, who drew a pass-interference penalty on Chamarri Conner. That set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Chuba Hubbard. Young's initial 2-point conversion toss to Moore drew a flag on Trent McDuffie, and Hubbard ran for 2 on the next play to tie the game with 1:46 left. Mahomes ran for 33 yards on the ensuing drive and was sprung by a downfield block from Justin Watson to reach field goal range. Then he connected with Kareem Hunt for 10 yards to make it a chip shot for Shrader. Mahomes finished with 60 yards rushing. The Chiefs wasted no time setting the tone as Samaje Perine returned the opening kickoff 56 yards and Mahomes found Gray for a 35-yard touchdown strike on the third play of scrimmage for a 7-0 lead. Gray went nine games without a TD catch before hauling in two last week against Buffalo. His 11-yard score late in the second quarter gave him two more against the Panthers . The Panthers moved the ball well but struggled in the red zone, resulting in field goals of 30, 32, 29 and 33 yards for Eddy Pineiro, the most accurate kicker in NFL history. Running back Jonathan Brooks made his NFL debut for Carolina, but was limited to 7 yards on two carries. Eight of the Chiefs' wins have come by a one-score margin, and this was their second straight victory decided on the last play. They beat Denver two weeks ago by blocking a would-be game-winning field goal. Moving on up Kansas City's Travis Kelce had six catches for 62 yards and moved into third place in career yards receiving by a tight end. He ranks behind only Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten. However, Kelce failed to find the end zone for the ninth time in 11 games this season. For a glorious two minutes, it seemed like Ruben Amorim was going to come take over Manchester United and fix all their issues immediately when Marcus Rashford found the back of the net. But in dropping points in an away 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town, it shows the size of the job that Amorim will take on. United immediately took the pitch in Amorim's customary 3-4-2-1 with Rashford getting the chance to lead the line, and while he performed well, scoring and putting his only shot on target, the issues of United not being able to actually get the ball to their striker remained. Rashford only took 13 touches and Bruno Fernades only created three chances against one of the worst defenses in the Premier League. For teams that can control a match, this wouldn't be that big of an issue but United isn't in a place to do that, allowing Ipswich to take 11 shots, putting six on target. The Tractor Boys had chances to win the match as well via striker Liam Delap because this team hasn't spent enough time under Amorim to become comfortable in their passing and defending. Luke Shaw's return will be a boon to the Red Devils considering his passing abilities as a left-sided centerback in a back three, and Amad Diallo also shined as a wing back assisting Rashford's goal. These matches are ones that can show Amorim who he can trust compared to where United will need to improve. The pivot of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen left much to be desired but there are other options in Mason Mount and Manuel Ugarte who can give Amorim a different look. With Europa League play up next facing Bodo/Glimt, Amorim will have another chance to see what his team can do in a clash where they will be favored and able to continue instilling Amorim's ideals. It's tough to change everything in only two training sessions and it could be quite a period of adjustment from Erik ten Hag to Amorim. "I know it's frustrating for the fans, but we are changing so much in this moment with a lot of games," Amorim said following the match . "We are going to suffer for a long period and we will try to win games, but this will take time." He also spoke about the struggle of instilling his style on the fly and even during the international break, he didn't have the full team available to work with. In weeks like this, one with two or three matches in eight days, training sessions can also be hard to come by. The blueprint is there for United to turn it around and some of the players are also there but this isn't something that can be fixed overnight. He also had to deal with another aspect of life in the Premier League when Ipswich Town fan and part owner Ed Sheeran crashed his post-match, pitch-side interview . Amorim was noticeably annoyed by Sheeran being there after Ipswich took a point off of Manchester United but continued to finish out the pitch-side interview.Southwest states certify election results after the process led to controversy in previous years
Ohio State senior quarterback Will Howard performed to high expectations in the Buckeyes’ 38-15 win over No. 5 Indiana, but his stat line wasn't what had social media talking. Instead, it was a sideline celebration that tapped deep into internet culture, pretending to light and stomp out an imaginary joint that polarized football fans and started debates about sportsmanship vs bravado in college athletics. The Buckeyes remained in control throughout the game after overcoming an early seven-point deficit caused by a two-yard yard from senior Hoosier running back Ty Son Lawton. Encircled by teammates and coaches in a sea of red jerseys, Howard simulated putting a fake joint to his mouth, flicking it away, and stomping it out, a nod to the viral “putting them in a pack” meme used to mock defeated opponents. Cameras quickly panned to Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti , who waved off the gesture in visible disgust. On X, the reactions ranged from amused to outraged. One fan wrote, "Bro, have some sportsmanship geez," while another chimed in, "IU talked a lot [Curt specifically] the past few weeks. Many people, OSU fans or not, enjoyed seeing how they fared against a good team." Shedeur Sanders drops huge hint at NFL future after Daniel Jones release from Giants Dave Portnoy pokes fun at Ohio State after helping Michigan flip star QB recruit Bryce Underwood Indiana came into the matchup as heavy underdogs with sportsbooks, giving the Hoosiers a 10.5-point cushion. Cignetti was bold to the press as he talked his team up before the game, taking direct aim at critics of his program. "We’ve got the largest scoring margin, victory margin in college football , right?" Cignetti said. "There’s a narrative out that’s created another chip for us. People can stick that narrative up their you-know-what." When asked how he planned to slow down Ohio State’s high-powered offense, Cignetti laid out his strategy of controlling the line of scrimmage, stopping the run, and creating turnovers by forcing Howard into tight coverage. He ended the interview with a walk-off, saying, "Google me, I win," which rubbed a portion of Buckeyes nation the wrong way online. Cignetti’s verbal faith didn’t translate to the field. Ohio State controlled the game after Indiana's first-quarter rushing TD as senior running back TreVeyon Henderson led the Buckeyes’ rushing attack with 68 yards and a touchdown. The Buckeyes collectively rushed for 115 yards on the ground, and Howard was nearly perfect, completing 22 of 26 passes for 201 yards, two touchdowns, and just one interception. "I was just having some fun with it. I have a lot of respect for those guys, man. I think what coach Cignetti’s done over there, he’s done a heck of a job," said Howard after admitting that the words he mouthed before the gesture were "Google me," returning the favor to Cignetti. "The Buckeyes are here, and the Buckeyes won," he continued. "So you can Google that." Cignetti’s plan to rattle Howard never materialized. The Buckeye's offensive line held firm without giving up a single sack, and by the end of the third quarter, the team had a 28-7 lead.LONDON -- Bukayo Saka will miss more than two months after undergoing surgery on a hamstring injury, Mikel Arteta has says. Saka limped out of Arsenal's 5-1 win over Crystal Palace on December 21, the latest hammer blow of a season in which the Gunners have suffered a string of injuries to key players. None will be more profoundly felt than the absence of their leading chance creator, assist provider, ball progressor and shot taker. "He had a procedure, everything went well but unfortunately he will be out for many, many weeks," said Arteta, who added when pressed for a timescale: "I said many weeks. I think it will be more than two months. I don't know exactly how much longer. I think it will depend on the scar tissue that starts to heel in the first week or so, the mobility of that. Let's see." Even if Arteta's assessment is slightly too conservative, an absence of just the two months would see Saka miss a further nine Premier League games at a time when Arsenal need a winning run to haul in Liverpool. He would also miss the remainder of the Champions League league phase games, the knockout round if Arsenal are required to play it and may even be a doubt for the round of 16. Saka was not the only forward missing from the Arsenal side that ran out 1-0 winners over Ipswich, Raheem Sterling missing from a second straight Premier League matchday squad with a knee injury. That, however, is progressing encouragingly for Arsenal. "The news with Raz I think is better," said Arteta. "We have to see this week how he evolves but we expected the injury to probably take longer than actually the way the knee is evolving in the last few days. Hopefully that's good because we need it." Sterling has struggled to impress since joining on loan from Chelsea on deadline day but given Saka's absence opportunities will doubtless come his way to turn the tide. Replacing Saka will surely be beyond a 30 year old who appears to be in decline but, robbed of one of the Premier League's best players, Arsenal are going to need all the hope they can get.IPL 2025 mega auction 10 Most Affordable Cities in India to Buy a House The Pros and Cons of Investing in Value Stocks Most Visited Monuments in India Investing in Small-Cap Stocks: Top 10 Tips for Absolute Beginners 10 Ways to Earn Money Online by Selling Physical Products Richest Cricket Players Across the World 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Warren Buffett’s Investment Process Top 10 Benefits of Investing in Small-Cap Stocks Priyanka Chopra Net Worth: Know How Rich is Global Actress How to Make Money Online With Writing and Blogging? AIoT enables smart devices to not only collect and exchange data but also process and analyse it in real-time Edge-as-a-Service (EaaS) offers a list of comprehensive solutions, providing the tools and infrastructure necessary to strengthen data protection in AIoT environments Deploying AIoT at the edge offers operational benefits but adds security challenges As the convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) transforms industries, the Artificial Intelligence of things (AIoT) is emerging as a game-changing technological advancement . AIoT enables smart devices to not only collect and exchange data but also process and analyse it in real-time, leading to better decision-making across applications such as smart cities, industrial automation, and healthcare. A significant enabler of this technology is edge computing, which allows data to be processed closer to its source, reducing latency and bandwidth usage. However, this growing adoption of AIoT at the edge introduces critical security challenges. To address these, Edge-as-a-Service (EaaS) offers a list of comprehensive solutions, providing the tools and infrastructure necessary to strengthen data protection in AIoT environments. AIoT integrates the power of artificial intelligence with IoT devices, enabling real-time data analysis and intelligent automation. This convergence allows devices to make decisions autonomously, streamlining processes in various industries. For example, in smart cities, AIoT can optimise traffic flow, reduce energy consumption, and improve public safety. In industrial automation, AIoT systems can predict equipment failures and optimise production lines, while in healthcare, wearable devices and smart medical systems monitor patients in real-time, alerting medical professionals to potential health risks. Edge computing, on the other hand, refers to the practice of processing data closer to the point of origin rather than relying solely on centralised cloud infrastructure. By moving data processing to the edge, companies can reduce latency and bandwidth consumption while enabling faster decision-making. However, this decentralised model also increases the complexity of securing these systems. While AIoT offers immense benefits, the deployment of these solutions at the edge presents significant security risks. One of the primary concerns is data breaches. Edge devices often process sensitive information locally, making them susceptible to unauthorised access. In fact, according to a report by Keyfactor and Vanson Bourne , 69% of companies reported increase in data breach and cyberattacks in the past three years, further highlighting this concern. Another major risk is cyberattacks. With edge computing’s distributed architecture, each connected device becomes a potential entry point for attackers. This expanded attack surface makes it easier for cybercriminals to exploit vulnerabilities. Insider threats also pose challenges. As the number of edge devices grows, it becomes increasingly difficult to manage and monitor security, creating opportunities for malicious insiders to compromise systems. Additionally, device compromise is a risk, as AIoT devices located in remote or unsecured areas can be physically tampered with or hacked. High-profile cases, such as the Mirai botnet attack , in which millions of IoT devices were hijacked to launch a massive DDoS attack, illustrate the potential dangers. Edge-as-a-Service (EaaS) is an emerging solution that simplifies the deployment, management, and security of edge infrastructure. EaaS allows businesses to outsource the complexity of managing their edge environments to specialised providers who offer built-in security frameworks designed to address the unique challenges of edge computing. One of the key benefits of EaaS is encryption, which ensures that data is protected both in transit and at rest. This reduces the risk of data breaches by preventing unauthorised parties from accessing sensitive information. EaaS also incorporates access control mechanisms, such as secure authentication and authorisation, ensuring that only authorised users and devices can interact with the system. EaaS enhances security through zero-trust architecture, continuously verifying users and devices to prevent unauthorised access. It also offers real-time monitoring, AI-driven threat detection, and automated patch management, ensuring edge devices stay updated and secure. EaaS enhances data protection in AIoT systems by providing continuous monitoring, ensuring rapid identification and response to potential security threats. In addition, EaaS services offer automated software updates and patches, ensuring that vulnerabilities are addressed as soon as they are identified. This reduces the risk of security breaches caused by outdated software. EaaS also leverages AI-powered anomaly detection, which can identify unusual activity or deviations from normal patterns that may indicate a security breach. This proactive approach to security allows businesses to respond to threats more effectively, minimising potential damage. As AIoT deployments continue to grow, the importance of security will only intensify. EaaS will play a critical role in ensuring that AIoT systems remain secure as they scale across industries. The demand for robust security measures will likely increase, with EaaS providers leading the charge in offering scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions. Regulatory compliance will also play a key role in shaping the future of AIoT security. As data protection laws such as GDPR and CCPA evolve, businesses will need to ensure that their AIoT systems comply with these regulations. EaaS providers will be instrumental in helping companies navigate these complex requirements. Deploying AIoT at the edge offers operational benefits but adds security challenges. EaaS addresses these risks with encryption, real-time monitoring, and Zero-Trust architecture, ensuring secure, scalable deployments. Businesses that adopt EaaS will be better equipped to succeed as AIoT adoption grows. Step up your startup journey with BHASKAR! Trump asks US Supreme Court to pause law threatening TikTok banHappy Holidays! It’s Sunday once more, and you know what that means — it’s time for our weekly social media roundup! It was a slow week in the Yankees Universe this week, as we celebrated all three of the mainstream winter holidays — Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa — on Wednesday and Thursday! How did the members of our Yankees celebrate the holiday season? Let’s find out! Season’s Greetings from the Yankees To lead off this week’s roundup, we’ve got a compilation of holiday posts from throughout the Yankees Universe: the official team account, current players, former players, broadcasters, and more! Judge remembered every player from that day’s lineup with little difficulty, struggling only on the day’s DH (an admittedly embarrassing one to struggle on, since it was The Kraken during his insane 2016 rookie campaign, Gary Sánchez). Times Square New Year's Eve Ball Drop: What to know about celebration, how to watch
Overcrowding, an extra block in high school schedules, a new cell phone ban, big provincial promises, new leadership? Lots has happened in the Burnaby school district in 2024, and the Burnaby NOW is taking a look back. Overcapacity on opening The year began with students moving into the new $116.6-million Burnaby North Secondary School . Before 2024 was up, however, the district was already asking the province for a $29.4-million addition because the school was overcapacity the day it opened . Enrollment growth and overcrowding, driven by development and an influx of newcomer families, was a major theme running through school stories this year. The NDP government – no doubt with an eye on the provincial election in October – responded with a flurry of capital funding announcements, including fast-tracked prefabricated additions at Kitchener Elementary , Alpha Secondary and Nelson Elementary . The province also approved $67.8 million for a brand new, bigger Cameron Elementary after originally approving only an expansion. But it takes time to build multi-million dollar capital projects, and the district announced it would add an extra block and stagger schedules at four local high schools to address overcrowding in the short term – a move that has raised concerns at the district parent advisory council. Ch-ch-ch-changes School district headquarters saw a change in leadership this year, with the retirement of superintendent Gina Niccoli-Moen at the end of March The district’s new CEO, ex-New Westminster school district superintendent Karim Hachlaf , officially took up Burnaby’s top job on April 1. Burnaby’s board of education also saw a changing of the guard at the end of 2024, when trustee Bill Brassington, who had served as the board’s chair for two years, passed on the reins of leadership to trustee Kristin Schnider. A student leader told the school board in May that her peers would “not be very happy” with a province-wide cellphone ban mandated by the provincial government, but the district’s policy generated little public pushback after it was put into effect in July. Making a splash Now, school stories don’t usually get as much attention online as they should, but this year burnabynow.com ’s fourth most clicked story was about local grads earning a record-breaking $10.8 million dollars in scholarships . With inflation making it hard to make ends meet in 2024, it was a good news story. Another story that garnered attention online was less positive. At the beginning of June, as the war in Palestine raged, the school district got a complaint from a parent about a Grade 6 social studies test in which students were asked to weigh in on Israel’s right to exist . Some of our favourite school stories, though, are often ones that don’t cause much of a stir online but touch our hearts. This year, our favourite is a story about a gingerbread fairy forest created by a team of local high school cooking students and dedicated to a beloved great uncle determined to protect his nephew’s sense of wonder.Swiss National Bank Boosts Stake in Vipshop Holdings Limited (NYSE:VIPS)
