Eventually, police officers rushed into the ugly scene. Ohio State coach Ryan Day said he understood the actions of his players. “There are some prideful guys on our team who weren't going to sit back and let that happen,” Day said. The two Ohio State players made available after the game brushed off questions about it. Michigan running back Kalel Mullings, who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown, didn't like how the Buckeyes players involved themselves in the Wolverines' postgame celebration. He called it “classless.” “For such a great game, you hate to see stuff like that after the game," he said in an on-field interview with Fox Sports. “It’s just bad for the sport, bad for college football. But at the end of the day, you know some people got to — they got to learn how to lose, man. ... We had 60 minutes, we had four quarters, to do all that fighting.” Michigan coach Sherrone Moore said everybody needs to do better. “So much emotions on both sides," he said. Article content In the wake of Donald Trump repeatedly saying Canada should become the 51st state, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says it is a further sign that Canada needs new leadership. In an exclusive interview with the Toronto Sun , Poilievre said Trump is seeing the weakness in the Trudeau government, currently in disarray, and he’s trying to take advantage of that weakness. “That’s why we need a strong, smart prime minister who has the brains and backbone to first and foremost say to President Trump, Canada will never be the 51st state. We will be an independent, proud, sovereign country, as we always have been,” Poilievre said. He pointed to the deadly toll fentanyl has taken in Canada, more than 47,000 people have died from overdoses of this deadly drug. “That’s more than died in the Second World War fighting for Canada. I mean, it is astonishing how deadly the liberalization of drugs under this NDP-Liberal government has been,” he said. While most fentanyl crossing the American border comes from Mexico, Canada is seen as a growing problem including by the current Biden administration. There are concerns that have been raised and acknowledged by people like Alberta Premier Danielle Smith about fentanyl super-labs popping up in Alberta and British Columbia as part of international crime syndicates. “We need to lock up the drug kingpins and shut down their money laundering networks for Canada. I mean, even if Trump weren’t saying this, we should do these things,” Poilievre said. RECOMMENDED VIDEO The Conservative Leader has made criminal justice reform central to his platform, including a promise of jail not bail for repeat violent offenders. The Trudeau Liberals have weakened Canada’s criminal justice laws for years, including with criminal code changes that have made bail the default option, the one judges and justices of the peace are required to give. “Criminals should be in jail so that law-abiding citizens can feel safe,” Poilievre said. As for working with Trump on his tariff threats, Poilievre believes he could do a better job than Trudeau has been doing. When Trudeau hasn’t been in hiding, like he has been this last week dealing with his internal political strife, he has been putting his foot in his mouth. RECOMMENDED VIDEO Last week, Trudeau made headlines across the United States for a speech he made in Ottawa where he claimed Americans had failed women by failing to elect a woman as president and lamented that Donald Trump beat Kamala Harris. It wasn’t a very bright move. “We are blessed to live next door to the greatest military and economic superpower the world has ever seen which President Trump will soon again lead,” Poilievre said. “The president has raised some reasonable concerns about the broken liberal border and our military, and I would respond by saying, we do need to reinforce our border with drones, helicopters, boots on the ground, and other high-performing technology to keep drugs and guns from crossing, to stop human trafficking.” It sounds like common sense, which is sorely lacking in Ottawa. The Trudeau Liberals had been hoping the re-election of Donald Trump would lead to a Trump bump for their political fortunes. That hasn’t happened, at least not according to any public polling that is available. The latest poll from Ipsos puts the Poilievre Conservatives at 44% support to 21% support for both the Liberals and the NDP. That same poll found that 34% of Canadians across the country thought Poilievre was the better bet than Trudeau, at 22%, to deal with the incoming Trump administration. Well, I will always put Canada first,” Poilievre said. In getting fined Bryant also found paid a small tribute to Lynch — Lynch was fined $11,050 following his dive-and-grab celebrating his “Beast Quake II’’ run against Arizona in 2014. Bryant also got better news from the league earlier in the week when he was named as the NFC’s Defensive Player of the Week. Bryant joked after the game that maybe Lynch would help him pay his fine. Ultimately, the Seahawks will likely consider it a small price to pay for what a play that may turn out to be as pivotal of the season. The play came on a fourth down with Arizona threatening to cut into Seattle’s 7-3 lead midway through the third quarter. The TD made it 13-3 and gave the Seahawks the breathing room they needed to win the game and move into a tie for first place with the Cardinals. Fine amounts are determined via a formula agreed to jointly by the NFL and the NFLPA and affirmed in the bargaining agreement between the two. Fines for games the previous week are revealed every Saturday. The NFL explains the fines as necessary to enforce “the league’s and the union’s expectations for players to conduct themselves in a way that honors the sport and respects the game, themselves, their fellow players, the fans and the league. Children’s Minister Roderic O’Gorman said the party could not buck the trend in Ireland of junior coalition partners in Fine Gael and Fianna Fail governments losing support in subsequent elections. He said they expected to retain two to three seats out of the 12 they had won in the 2020 election on the back of a worldwide “Green wave”. “Undoubtedly it’s a disappointing result for our party today,” Mr O’Gorman told reporters in Ongar, Dublin. “It’s hard for a smaller party in government, that’s long been the tradition, the history in Ireland. We hoped going into the election to buck that but we haven’t been able to buck that today.” Mr O’Gorman, a candidate in Dublin West, is among the outgoing Green Party TDs in a battle to retain their seats. Culture Minister Catherine Martin, who is fighting to remain a Green Party TD for Dublin Rathdown, said it was a “very tight” race in her four-seat constituency. “We go in (to government) not afraid of that because the issue of the climate and biodiversity crisis is (greater) than our survival,” she said on RTE Radio. “I stand over and am proud of our track record of delivery.” Green candidate in Waterford Marc O Cathasaigh said he would not be “in the shake-up” to retain his seat in that constituency, while junior minister Ossian Smyth looks at risk of losing his seat in Dun Laoghaire. Rainbow-clad revelers hit Copacabana beach for Rio de Janeiro’s pride parade RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Thousands of revelers have gathered alongside Copacabana beach for Rio de Janeiro’s annual gay pride parade, many scantily dressed and covered in glitter. Rainbow-colored flags, towels and fans abounded among the crowd mostly made up of young revelers, who danced and sang along to music blaring from speakers. While the atmosphere was festive, some spoke of the threat of violence LGBTQ+ people face in Brazil. At least 230 LGBTQ+ Brazilians were victims of violent deaths in 2023, according to the umbrella watchdog group Observatory of LGBTQ+ deaths and violence in Brazil. Stolen shoe mystery solved at Japanese kindergarten when security camera catches weasel in the act TOKYO (AP) — Police thought a shoe thief was on the loose at a kindergarten in southwestern Japan, until a security camera caught the furry culprit in action. A weasel with a tiny shoe in its mouth was spotted on the video footage after police installed three cameras in the school in the prefecture of Fukuoka. “It’s great it turned out not to be a human being,” said Deputy Police Chief Hiroaki Inada. Social media sites call for Australia to delay its ban on children younger than 16 MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — An advocate for major social media platforms has told Australia's Parliament that a plan to ban children younger than 16 from the sites should be delayed rather than being rushed to approval this week. Sunita Bose is managing director of Digital Industry Group Inc. which is an advocate for the digital industry in Australia including X, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. She was answering questions on Monday at a single-day Senate committee hearing into world-first legislation that was introduced into the Parliament last week. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — We all remember the scene of Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin suffering a cardiac arrest on live television in January 2023 during an NFL game. He lived thanks to the quick work of the team's trainers and an AED. The miraculous save seen around the world inspired the NFL to create the Smart Heart Sports Coalition. One of its goals leads right back here to Middle Tennessee. The coalition wants to make sure AEDs are in more places, especially where kids are. To make that happen, they launched a program called AEDS for Youth. Darmar Hamlin is backing it, and Coro Medical — a Middle Tennessee AED supplier — is bringing it to life. Inside Coro Medical’s Brentwood warehouse is shelf after shelf of small but mighty machinery designed to save lives. CEO Travis Harris is proud of his company’s growth. “Coro Medical is one of the leading providers of AEDs in the U.S," Harris said. He’s also proud of a new partnership with the NFL. “The goal is to get more AEDs in every school, in every athletic venue, in every underserved community that we possibly can, so they can survive a cardiac arrest event just like Damar Hamlin did," Harris said. Coro Medical is doing that through the AEDs for Youth program — offering AEDs at a discounted price. One defibrillator can cost anywhere from $1,200 to $2,000. A cost that is not always in the budget for schools or youth sports leagues. Through the AEDS for Youth program, Coro Medical is reducing that price by 20 to 60% depending on the AED model. “For example, if it’s someone in a border state they may need a bi-lingual AED. If it’s someone who has pediatrics, they may want something with adult and pediatric capabilities without the addition of a pediatric pad,” Harris said. Harris has been in the AED business for 19 years. He knows the specifications of every model. He also knows sometimes it's about more than the bottom line. “It does make good business sense because it’s part of our mission.
