Vinnies NSW has unveiled a refreshed brand strategy and visual identity for its retail network, developed with Houston Group. The brand refresh marks an exciting new chapter for Vinnies Shops in NSW, as the not-for-profit focuses on connecting with more audiences and amplifying the positive impact of the work undertaken by Vinnies. The strategic and design agency guided the rebranding process, built around the simple but powerful truth that Vinnies Shops transforms unneeded clothes and other goods into much-needed support for society’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged. As consumers become more aware of the negative effects of fast fashion, Vinnies retail outlets provide an easy way to help more people to do more good, by shopping, donating and volunteering. ‘What a privilege to work on such an important and iconic brand that is truly about everyday people doing good, and helping each other out. Having the opportunity to modernise and adapt the Vinnies Shops brand is all part of that too, and I couldn’t be prouder of the work we’ve been able to develop together,” Stuart O’Brien , founder and CEO of Houston Group, said. “Houston’s strategic work lay the foundation for a creative refresh, which elevates the brand identity to connect to a new audience – while not alienating their existing loyal base – by celebrating the iconic aspects of the Vinnies identity and heritage. “Designed with a more impactful, accessible and inspiring approach for younger audiences, the new visual identity is better optimised for digital platforms like social media and e-commerce,” O’Brien added. The agency’s concept of layering and texture was integral to the new identity, inspired by the three stacked hands depicted in the St Vincent de Paul Society logo. The distinct graphic language weaves in textures and textiles to emphasise clothing as a symbol of help, community and connection – representing the fabric of community that Vinnies supports. The refreshed identity also retained and re-energised the brand’s iconic blue, with a range of secondary colours and textural hues connecting its rich history to its vibrant future. Thomas Morgan, director, communications and marketing of St Vincent De Paul Society NSW, said: ‘We’re all incredibly proud of the new retail brand identity. It’s been crafted with care, is warm and energetic and respects the proud heritage of the Society. “Importantly, the brand refresh strongly connects how shopping at Vinnies funds the Society’s crucial social services which provides a hands-up to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals and families in NSW. We can’t wait to roll out our refreshed identity across our network of 230 shops in NSW and bring it to life in campaigns and across our digital channels,” he concluded. The brand refresh will be rolled out across Vinnies’ extensive physical presence across NSW, as well as in digital channels and campaign messaging – helping those who help others do more good in the community. A Dutch court on Tuesday passed the first five sentences over last month’s attacks against Israelis in Amsterdam, prescribing punishments critics said were inappropriately mild. The sentences, the heaviest of which was six months in prison, prompted indignation from Dutch Jews, who were shocked by the coordinated mass assaults by dozens of Arabs and Muslims on fans of Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv team who were in Amsterdam for a match. Herman Loonstein, a prominent lawyer and Jewish community activist, said the prosecution bore some of the responsibility for the sentences, which he found excessively lenient. “The prosecution rushed this but at the expense of their preparedness,” he told JNS. “A better preparation could have led to an attempted homicide indictment,” which did not happen. The Center for Information and Documentation on Israel, or CIDI, called the sentences “a regrettable sign,” but added that it was “good that prison sentences were imposed and that community service alone was not enough. This shows that the legal order is also shocked.” Brigitte Wielheesen, a veteran journalist who is Jewish, called the sentences “meager” considering the maximum terms of 4.5-12 years for the prosecuted offenses. “Are aggravating factors, such as discriminatory aspects and major social impact, not taken into account?” she queried. Defendant Sefa Ö., 32, received the heaviest sentence of six months in prison, De Telegraaf reported . The prosecution had sought two years. A hairdresser whose wife is pregnant, he was filmed kicking a man against a moving tram and punching another who was already lying on the ground. Umutcan A., a 24-year-old man from The Hague, was sentenced to a month behind bars instead of the five months requested. He was seen kicking a man in the face and stealing a scarf from another victim. He described his actions as a “Jew hunt” in text messages, according to the indictment. Rachid O. directed people on a WhatsApp group to where they could find Jews to assault and inquired whether any had died. He was convicted of incitement to violence but sentenced to 10 weeks in prison as opposed to the requested four months. Lucas D. from Monnickendam received a sentence of 100 hours of community service instead of the requested three months of jail time. A spokesperson for the prosecution said it “disagrees” with the court’s decision to try Lucas D., 19, as a minor. The spokesperson said the prosecution was “satisfied” with how the court “rejected all the defense’s claims” regarding the prison sentences for the four other defendants. He added, however, that his office is “looking at the number of months of prison sentence imposed compared to our demand.” Stopping short of mentioning an appeal, the spokesperson told Het Parool that his office plans to “study” the sentences. Of the dozens of perpetrators documented assaulting Israelis on the night of Nov. 7, only seven have been prosecuted. The trial of the remaining two is ongoing. The attacks were together one of the worst antisemitic incidents in the Netherlands since the Holocaust, featuring real-time coordination online by hundreds of locals. The sentencing follows a gradual shift in the narrative in the Netherlands around the occurrence, which initially prompted condemnations from across the political spectrum. However, left-wing politicians, including Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema, gradually changed their rhetoric, implying the mass assault was provoked by the Maccabi fans. Halsema earlier this month retracted her earlier use of the word “pogrom” in connection with the assaults.‘The Forum of 27 LGA Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Imo State chapter, has dissociated itself from recent reports in some sections of the media regarding the purported appointment of Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere as the leader of the party in the state. In a communiqué issued on Thursday after an emergency meeting chaired by the Chairman of All Chairmen, Hon. Emeka Chukwu Alihie of Ohaji Egbema LGA, held on Tuesday in Owerri, the chairmen unanimously described the reports as false and deceptive. The group warned against any individual or group impersonating them and also endorsed the expulsion of Ugochinyere from the party for gross indiscipline. The Chairmen questioned how they could have appointed anyone as the leader of the party in the state when the party’s constitution does not empower them to do so, declaring that leadership is earned and not bought. According to the communiqué, the “Emergency Meeting of the Forum of Authentic PDP 27 LGA Chairmen” was convened in response to the purported crowning of Hon. Ugochinyere Imo, a member representing Ideato Federal constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, as the leader of the party in Imo State, as circulated in the media. The chairmen stated that this worthless and deceitful media circulation was signed by a faceless impostor named Barr. Uche Alisieigwe, who claimed to be the Chairman of the forum of all LGA Chairmen in Imo State. They resolved that Alisieigwe is not recorded in their records as a ward, LGA, zonal, or state executive member of their party. They further stated that one must be a Local Government Area Chairman of the party before being elected as the chairman of the forum of all Chairmen. They also questioned which LGA in Imo Alisieigwe represents, as he could not identify his LGA. The Forum for Authentic PDP 27 LGA Chairmen warned Uche Alisieigwe and his co-travelers to desist from impersonating party officials with false and malicious information and fake letterhead documents. The chairmen revealed that investigations indicated that Ugochinyere deployed the name of Uche Alisieigwe to cause disharmony within Imo PDP and beyond. They called on the party leadership in Imo State to begin criminal proceedings against this so-called faceless Uche Alisieigwe. They also urged the party leadership to urgently contact the Imo State chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to investigate and confirm Alisieigwe’s membership of the legal profession. “Because we believe in the sacredness of the legal profession, we urge the Imo State chapter of the NBA to take disciplinary action against Uche Alisieigwe, who, by the title attached to his name, is presumed to be a lawyer, but is bringing ridicule, disrepute, and dishonor to the body.” The Forum of Authentic 27 LGA Chairmen of the party in Imo State hereby unequivocally disassociates, debunks, and refutes the malicious claims made by the non-existent group led by the faceless chairman and impostor Uche Alisieigwe. They stated that they are not part of his charade and cannot be linked to his criminal actions or those of his paymasters and co-travelers. “Let it also be stated that, according to the constitutional provisions of our great party, it is not the forum of LGA Chairmen that is responsible for electing the leader of the party, as erroneously stated by the faceless and shameless Uche Alisieigwe. Leadership is earned and not bought.” The Forum declared that there is no leadership vacuum or tussle in Imo PDP, and that they remain focused, loyal, and committed to the leadership directions provided by their leader, the undisputed and unopposed National Secretary of the party, and candidate in the 2023 Imo State governorship election, HE Most Dist. Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu. The Forum identified with the decision of the members and leadership of the Great Party PDP in Umuopia Ward of Ideato North regarding the expulsion of Hon. Ugochinyere Imo, as stated in their expulsion letter. NIGERIAN TRIBUNE
The Los Angeles Rams have been the dark horse team of the 2024 season. They got off to a rough start early on in the season as the offense was without stars Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp . Through the first five weeks, it was safe to say that this season was going to be a losing one for the team as it got off to a 1-4 start. However, just when one thought they were done, Matthew Stafford got his wings back. Ever since Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua have been a part of the roster, their offense has been rolling. Now, LA finds itself in a unique position. As the Rams rank second in the NFC West, the team dons a unique tag, the team is a ‘Dreambreaker’ for the likes of the Seahawks, Cardinals, and the 49ers. Seattle is one win ahead of LA in the division but they have been inconsistent throughout the year which means fans should not be shocked if the Rams overtake them and win the division by the end of the season. Apart from that, the Arizona Cardinals still have a shot at making the number 1 seed but they are two wins away. Fortunately, for them, they face the Patriots and Panthers in the coming weeks, two games that can be won although considering the strong fight Carolina put up against the Eagles, the team should not be dismissed entirely. Then they go up against the Rams and the 49ers, two games that cannot be predicted as there are a lot of variables in play. However, given the Seahawks’ schedule, it is safe to say that LA might end up with the top spot in the NFC West. As Seattle goes up against Minnesota and Green Bay in the coming weeks, those are matchups they do not stand to win. Ultimately, the Rams can take benefit of this and sneak into the playoffs. Does that make the Rams a legitimate Super Bowl contender? Not necessarily but they will certainly not be a first-round exit in the playoffs and here are three reasons why: 1. Offense, Offense and Offense Matthew Stafford has been consistent throughout the season. Without his wide receivers too, he ranks top 5 in terms of yards thrown this season, top 10 in terms of passing touchdowns, and 8th in the NFL with a QBR of 65.6. The man knows how to work with unfavorable odds, after all, that is what he did for most of his career in Detroit. Now that he has Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp to rely on that is a boost to the offense. Add Kyren Williams to this equation and LA has a roster that can inflict damage to its opponents. Averaging 340.7 yards per game, they have primarily relied on the passing game this season. LA’s offense will be the primary driver that can deliver a blow to even the most seasoned of defenses. 2. Sean McVay and his strategic decision-making Trading Jared Goff for Matthew Stafford was a gamble, bringing Odell Beckham Jr. when there were rumors of his ability to perform at an elite level was a gamble, HC Sean McVay is no stranger to taking risks. He is always two steps ahead of the curve and when the Rams fanbase was deep into concern after the slow start, he did not lose hope. Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford together have formed a formidable duo. Since the veteran quarterback joined the Rams, they are 10-1 in December. Well, the next 3 of their games are in December so that’s a positive sign for them. 3. No moment is too big for the Rams Despite having a much different-looking roster than the Super Bowl squad, the Rams have not cracked under pressure so far. The evidence? Just look at what they did to Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. The MVP candidate had a historic night as he passed for three touchdowns and rushed for three but still, the Bills came up short. This showcases two things, one is that the Rams’ offense can compete with anybody. However, the other thing is that they can do this despite their defense. LA’s defense is far behind the offense but on days they come up short, the offense never fails to cover the deficit. Their win against Buffalo was a morale booster for them, one that they needed ahead of the TNF game against the San Francisco 49ers. This will be a matchup that will feature the intensity of a playoff game because the 49ers’ season is on the line but considering the grit LA showed against Buffalo, they are not going to be backing down in this one either. The team’s ability to get into the playoffs should not be doubted. They can make it as far as the Divisional Round until they meet a defense that is capable of shutting them down. If LA faces either the Detroit Lions or the Philadelphia Eagles then they stand no chance but apart from that, whichever team they face, they can beat. The Los Angeles Rams are dangerous and what makes them dangerous is the fact that it is easy to overlook them. This article first appeared on FirstSportz and was syndicated with permission.

By Abby Patkin As President-elect Donald Trump’s second term inches nearer — along with his promises of mass deportation — Somerville’s City Council is reaffirming the city’s status as a “welcoming community” for immigrants. “The national political climate remains increasingly hostile toward immigrants and refugees,” a resolution approved Tuesday notes. Trump’s return to the White House also “brings heightened risks for immigrant communities across the country, including in Somerville,” the document states. Tuesday’s resolution featured some slight changes from a version discussed at a City Council meeting earlier this month , which called on city leaders to reaffirm Somerville’s decades-old status as a “sanctuary city.” Somerville previously reaffirmed itself as a sanctuary city following Trump’s 2016 election. The new resolution pledges to “protect the safety, dignity, and rights of immigrants, migrants, asylum seekers, asylees, and refugees residing in Somerville.” It also emphasizes a commitment to support and fund resources for immigrants, including legal aid for residents facing deportation or removal. The City Council further called on the Somerville Police Department to uphold a commitment to avoid cooperation with external law enforcement agencies on matters related to immigration detainment. “Regardless of external pressures or challenges faced by sanctuary cities, the Somerville City Council remains committed to its values of inclusion, equity, and justice, and will not waver in supporting our immigrant neighbors, who are integral to the strength and diversity of our community,” the resolution states. The council approved the revised resolution following a brief discussion, with a copy sent to the Legislative Matters Committee for follow-up.
