Harry and Meghan’s polo docuseries to highlight ‘grit behind the glamour’-- Shares Facebook Twitter Reddit Email Matt Gaetz is already weighing his next move. The recently resigned representative has been keeping busy with Cameo since intense scrutiny of his nomination for attorney general led to him bowing out of consideration for Donald Trump's Cabinet. Gaetz doesn't seem content to hawk $500 pep talks, however, and he hinted at a few political futures on X. Former Florida House Rep. Anthony Sabatini tweeted that Gaetz "will be the next Governor of the State of Florida" on Saturday. Gaetz shared the idea along with an image of the waving flag of Florida. (It's worth noting here that Sabatini was dinged for his associations with convicted sex trafficker Joel Greenberg. Greenberg's friendship with Gaetz was the seed for both a Department of Justice investigation and a House Ethics Committee probe into the former congressman. The latter investigation likely doomed Gaetz's attorney general confirmation before it ever got started.) Related Resistance is not futile: Matt Gaetz's implosion shows how MAGA's chaos can be turned against Trump Current Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is term-limited and won't be able to run for the governorship in 2026. Who will take up the chief Republican role in the rapidly reddening state is still an open question. From his congressional account, Gaetz shared the thoughts of right-wing social media figure Catturd, who laid out the possibility of Gaetz serving as a special counsel in the Trump DOJ. "The Biden Administration has filled hundreds of pages of briefs in federal court claiming that Special Counsels do not require Senate confirmation. In case anyone was wondering," he wrote. NEW ORLEANS — A scruffy little fugitive is on the lam again in New Orleans, gaining fame as he outwits a tenacious band of citizens armed with night-vision binoculars, nets and a tranquilizer rifle. Scrim, a 17-pound mutt that's mostly terrier, has become a folk hero, inspiring tattoos, T-shirts and even a ballad as he eludes capture from the posse of volunteers. And like any antihero, Scrim has a backstory: Rescued from semi-feral life at a trailer park and adopted from a shelter, the dog broke loose in April and scurried around the city until he was cornered in October and brought to a new home. Weeks later, he'd had enough. Scrim leaped out of a second-story window, a desperate act recorded in a now-viral video. Since then, despite a stream of daily sightings, he's roamed free. The dog’s fans include Myra and Steve Foster, who wrote “Ode to Scrim” to the tune of Ricky Nelson’s 1961 hit, “I’m a Travelin’ Man.” Michelle Cheramie, founder of Zeus' Rescues, at her office in New Orleans on Dec. 9 with a whiteboard index of sheltered cats and dogs and a Scrim look-alike recuperating in the background. Jack Brook, Associated Press Leading the recapture effort is Michelle Cheramie, a 55-year-old former information technology professional. She lost everything — home, car, possessions — in Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and in the aftermath, found her calling rescuing pets. “I was like, ‘This is what I should be doing,’” Cheramie said. “I was born to rescue.” She launched Zeus’ Rescues, a nonprofit shelter that now averages 600 cat and dog adoptions a year and offers free pet food to anyone who needs it. She helped Scrim find the home he first escaped from. It was Cheramie's window Scrim leaped from in November. She's resumed her relentless mission since then, posting flyers on telephone poles and logging social media updates on his reported whereabouts. She's invested thousands of dollars on wildlife cameras, thermal sensors and other gear. She took a course offered by the San Diego Zoo on the finer points of tranquilizing animals. And she's developed a network of volunteers — the kind of neighbors who are willing to grid-search a city at 3 a.m. People like writer David W. Brown, who manages a crowd-sourced Google Map of all known Scrim sightings. He says the search galvanized residents from all walks of life to come together. As they search for Scrim, they hand out supplies to people in need. “Being a member of the community is seeing problems and doing what you can to make life a little better for the people around here and the animals around you,” Brown said. Neighbor Tammy Murray had to close her furniture store and lost her father to Parkinson's disease. This search, she says, got her mojo back. “Literally, for months, I’ve done nothing but hunt this dog,” said Murray, 53. “I feel like Wile E. Coyote on a daily basis with him.” Murray drives the Zeus' Rescues van toward reported Scrim sightings. She also handles a tactical net launcher, which looks like an oversized flashlight and once misfired, shattering the van's window as Scrim sped away. After realizing Scrim came to recognize the sound of the van's diesel engine, Murray switched to a Vespa scooter for stealth. Michelle Cheramie, director of Zeus' Rescues, left, walks with Scrim on Oct. 24 at the Metairie Small Animal Hospital in Metairie, La. Brett Duke, The New Orleans Advocate Near-misses have been tantalizing. The search party spotted Scrim napping beneath an elevated house, and wrapped construction netting around the perimeter, but an over-eager volunteer broke ranks and dashed forward, leaving an opening Scrim slipped through. Scrim's repeated escapades prompted near-daily local media coverage and a devoted online following. Cheramie can relate. “We’re all running from something or to something," she said. "He's doing that, too.” Cheramie's team dreams of placing the pooch in a safe and loving environment. But a social media chorus growing under the hashtag #FreeScrim has other ideas — they say the runaway should be allowed a life of self-determination. The animal rescue volunteers consider that misguided. “The streets of New Orleans are not the place for a dog to be free,” Cheramie said. “It’s too dangerous.” Scrim rests in a kennel Oct. 24 at the Metairie Small Animal Hospital in Metairie, La. Brett Duke, The New Orleans Advocate Scrim was a mess when Cheramie briefly recaptured him in October, with matted fur, missing teeth and a tattered ear. His trembling body was scraped and bruised, and punctured by projectiles. A vet removed one, but decided against operating to take out a possible bullet. The dog initially appeared content indoors, sitting in Cheramie's lap or napping beside her bed. Then while she was out one day, Scrim chewed through a mesh screen, dropped 13 feet to the ground and squeezed through a gap in the fence, trotting away. Murray said Cheramie's four cats probably spooked him. Cheramie thinks they may have gotten territorial. Devastated but undeterred, the pair is reassessing where Scrim might fit best — maybe a secure animal sanctuary with big outdoor spaces where other dogs can keep him company. Somewhere, Murray says, “where he can just breathe and be.” Scrim sits in the arms of Zoey Ponder on Oct. 24 at Metairie Small Animal Hospital in Metairie. Fox News host blatantly misgendered Rep.-elect (D-Del.) while interviewing anti-transgender crusader Rep. (R-S.C.) during Sunday’s episode of “Fox & Friends Weekend.” Campos-Duffy casually referred to McBride, a trans woman who will be the first openly trans member of Congress, as “he,” while Mace to promote her campaign to ban McBride and other trans women from using female restrooms on Capitol Hill. When Mace called her mission to block trans women from using the bathrooms a “winning” political message, Campos-Duffy noted that “that trans member of Congress has said that he will actually abide by the rules and not use the women’s restroom in Congress.” Doubling down on the bigotry moments later, Campos-Duffy took aim at , President Joe Biden’s assistant secretary of health. Levine, also a trans woman, is the first openly trans federal official in the United States’ history. “I’ve seen Rachel Levine. I know that’s not a woman, so I don’t understand this idea,” the Fox News anchor proclaimed as Mace nodded in agreement. "I know that's not a woman" -- Nancy Mace is on Fox & Friends and the person interviewing her is referring to Sarah McBride and other trans women as "he." Mace agrees. These people do not think trans people exist. — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) This past Monday, Mace to prohibit any lawmakers and House employees from “using single-sex facilities other than those corresponding to their biological sex.” Asked if she was with the proposed rule while speaking to reporters on Tuesday, the South Carolina congresswoman said, “Yes and absolutely, and then some.” “I’m absolutely 100% going to stand in the way of any man who wants to be in a women’s restroom, in our locker rooms, in our changing rooms,” she added. “I will be there fighting you every step of the way.” Since Mace began her battle to exclude trans women from Congress’ women’s bathrooms, McBride has tried to stay above the fray. In a , formerly called Twitter, she said, “Every day Americans go to work with people who have life journeys different than their own and engage with them respectfully, I hope members of Congress can muster that same kindness.” McBride called the controversy an “attempt to distract” Americans from real issues “Every single time we hear them say the word ‘trans,’ look what they’re doing with their right hand,” she said. “Look at what they’re doing to pick the pocket of American workers, to fleece seniors by privatizing Social Security and Medicare.” Related...Campaigners have hit out at a “woefully inadequate” financial package for developing nations agreed at Cop29 – with one charity condemning it as a “death sentence for millions”. A 300 billion dollar (£239.5 billion) deal to help combat the impact of global warming was announced at the international conference in Baku, Azerbaijan. The money falls far short of the $1.3 trillion that developing countries were asking for, but is three times the $100bn a year deal from 2009 that is expiring. UN climate chief Simon Steill hailed it as an “insurance policy” for humanity, while Energy secretary Ed Miliband described it as a "critical 11th-hour deal at the 11th hour for the climate". But Christian Aid said people who needed a life raft had been given a plank of wood instead. And the charity Water Aid said it was a "death sentence for millions" and a "mere fraction" of what was needed. Lesley Pories, lead policy analyst for WaterAid, said: "While experts touted needs around one trillion dollars annually for the new collective quantified goal (NCQG), an agreement for 300 billion dollars was reached - a mere fraction of the finance we all know is desperately needed.” They said that from hurricanes and flash flooding to wildfires and worsening drought, the global water crisis was a “growing tragedy” and that it was “deeply shameful that... governments could not set aside their differences for the sake of the most vulnerable." Jasper Inventor, head of the Cop29 Greenpeace delegation, said: "The agreed finance goal is woefully inadequate and overshadowed by the level of despair and scale of action needed.” But US President Joe Biden said that while "substantial work" remained to be done, the conference had set an "ambitious international climate finance goal". "While some may seek to deny or delay the clean energy revolution that’s under way in America and around the world, nobody can reverse it - nobody," he said. Friends of Earth head of policy Mike Childs credited the UK delegation for playing a productive role in the talks, but warned that they “failed to solve the question of climate finance". "Instead they have again kicked the can down the road. Developing countries are being hammered by climate extremes now, predominantly fuelled by the current and historic polluting activities of rich nations, like the UK." The Cop29 climate conference in the Azerbaijan capital had been due to finish on Friday but ran on as negotiators from nearly 200 countries struggled to reach a consensus on a climate funding plan for the next decade.Papers: Cooper stunned by sacking with Potter a contender to replace him
Patna, Nov 24 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement that there was "no place for Wakf law in the Constitution" on Sunday drew sharp criticism from Islamic scholar Maulana Arshad Madani. Addressing a function here organised by the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, Madani, who is its president, also urged Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Chandrababu Naidu to stall the Wakf Bill that the Modi government is likely to bring in the Parliament's upcoming session. "I was appalled to learn that Modi ji has expressed the view that Wakf should be done away with since there is no provision in its favour in the Constitution. We did not expect such a frivolous remark from the Prime Minister of India," Madani said, at the conference titled "Save the Constitution and National Solidarity". He claimed that the comment, made by the Prime Minister while addressing BJP workers in New Delhi on Saturday, seems bereft of sense. Also Read | Shiv Sena MLAs Feel Eknath Shinde Should Continue As Maharashtra CM, Says State Minister Deepak Kesarkar. Tomorrow, it may be said that Muslims would not be allowed to offer namaz, go for Haj pilgrimage and give away zakat (alms) since these too find no mention in the Constitution, claimed the head of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, stated to be the largest organisation of Indian Muslims. "The PM should know that Wakf is an integral part of Islam and it finds mention in the Hadith, which are words spoken by our Prophet. As such, it is the duty of Muslims to safeguard Wakf. "The PM should also remember that the country's secular Constitution grants every religious minority the right to practise its faith. And Muslims are claiming that right by opposing the Wakf bill," he said. Madani urged Nitish and Naidu, BJP allies on whom the saffron party depends for surviving in power at the Centre, not to support the Bill stating that doing so "would be tantamount to stabbing Muslims in the back". Madani decried the "politics of hate" allegedly practised by the BJP. "The Assam CM (Himanta Biswa Sarma) spent months in Jharkhand, labelling Muslims as infiltrators. He should remember that most of the Muslims are of Indian origin," he said. Sarma was the BJP's co-in-charge of the assembly elections in adjoining Jharkhand. Referring to the BJP's defeat in Jharkhand, Madani said, "Those who were trying to spread hate have been humiliated. It is God's mercy, no doubt, but we must acknowledge that Hindus too stood up with us in the fight". Indirectly referring to Nitish Kumar, who heads JD(U), Madani remarked: "The ruling dispensation of the state is the crutch on which the Centre stands. The powers that be in the state claim they would not let Muslims suffer. The Wakf issue presents them with an opportunity to walk the talk. If they dither, the community must decide whether or not to trust them any more". Voy a recuperar mi captura. Voy a recuperar mi captura, amigo”. Favre intenta tomar la situación a la ligera, al decir en broma: Gastineau “probablemente me lastimaría”. El otrora rey de las capturas responde: “Bueno, no me importa. Me lastimaste. ¡Me lastimaste! ¿Me oyes? Realmente me lastimaste. Realmente me lastimaste, Brett”.
