NoneWall Street stocks surged to fresh records Wednesday on hopes about easing US monetary policy, shrugging off political upheaval in South Korea and France. All three major US indices scored records, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average finishing above 45,000 for the first time. "The market at this point is looking for excuses to go up, and there's not really anything that might work against that narrative," said Steve Sosnick of Interactive Brokers. "Over the last couple of days, it's managed to ignore all sorts of inconvenient things and decided that the situation in France doesn't matter for them," Sosnick said of the stock market. "The situation in Korea doesn't matter." South Korea's stock market fell less than feared and the won rebounded from earlier losses after President Yoon Suk Yeol swiftly reversed a decision to impose martial law. In Europe, Paris stocks managed to advance as France's government faced looming no-confidence votes. Late Wednesday in Paris, French lawmakers voted to oust the government of Prime Minister Michel Barnier after just three months in office, pushing the country further into political uncertainty. For the first time in over sixty years, the National Assembly lower house toppled the incumbent government, approving a no-confidence motion that had been proposed by the hard left but which crucially was backed by the far-right headed by Marine Le Pen. "Political turmoil in both France and South Korea provide a uncertain backdrop for global markets, with the likely removal of both Barnier and Yoon bringing the potential for both countries to find a fresh direction," said Joshua Mahony, chief market analyst at Scope Markets. Thomas Mathews, head of Asia-Pacific markets at Capital Economics, said the losses in Seoul could have been "much worse" had the president not aborted his plan. "Rarely does a combined sell-off in a country's stocks, bonds and currency feel like a relief rally," he said. Oil prices turned lower after surging around 2.5 percent Tuesday, mainly after the United States sanctioned 35 companies and ships it accused of involvement with Iran's "shadow fleet" illicitly selling Iranian oil to foreign markets. Major producers at the OPEC+ grouping led by Saudi Arabia and Russia were set to meet Thursday to discuss extending output limits. Back in New York, major indices were led by the Nasdaq, which piled on 1.3 percent to finish at a third straight record. Wednesday's gains came after payroll firm ADP said US private-sector hiring in November came in at a lower-than-expected 146,000 jobs, while a survey from the Institute for Supply Management showed weaker sentiment than expected in the services sector. But the lackluster data boosts expectations that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates later this month. At a New York conference, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell refrained from tipping his hand, but he "didn't say anything that would scare the market," said Briefing.com analyst Patrick O'Hare. O'Hare noted that Wednesday's gains were led by large tech names such as Nvidia and Microsoft, which are major AI players. The boost followed strong results from Salesforce, which was the biggest gainer in the Dow with an 11 percent jump. In a message to the American people, the King expressed “great sadness” at the news of Mr Carter’s death, describing him as “a committed public servant” who “devoted his life to promoting peace and human rights”. He added: “His dedication and humility served as an inspiration to many, and I remember with great fondness his visit to the United Kingdom in 1977. “My thoughts and prayers are with President Carter’s family and the American people at this time.” Mr Carter, a former peanut farmer, served one term in the White House between 1977 and 1981 and spent his post-presidency years as a global humanitarian, winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. Sir Keir Starmer said Mr Carter had “lived his values in the service of others to the very end” through “decades of selfless public service”. Praising a “lifelong dedication to peace” that saw him win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, Sir Keir added: “Motivated by his strong faith and values, President Carter redefined the post-presidency with a remarkable commitment to social justice and human rights at home and abroad.” Tributes to Mr Carter followed the announcement of his death by his family on Sunday, more than a year after he decided to enter hospice care. His son, Chip Carter, said: “My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love.” Very sorry to hear of President Carter’s passing. I pay tribute to his decades of selfless public service. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. pic.twitter.com/IaKmZcteb1 — Keir Starmer (@Keir_Starmer) December 29, 2024 US President Joe Biden, one of the first elected politicians to endorse Mr Carter’s bid for the presidency in 1976, said the world had “lost an extraordinary leader, statesman and humanitarian”. He said: “Over six decades, we had the honour of calling Jimmy Carter a dear friend. But, what’s extraordinary about Jimmy Carter, though, is that millions of people throughout America and the world who never met him thought of him as a dear friend as well. “With his compassion and moral clarity, he worked to eradicate disease, forge peace, advance civil rights and human rights, promote free and fair elections, house the homeless, and always advocate for the least among us.” Vice President Kamala Harris said Mr Carter “reminded our nation and the world that there is strength in decency and compassion”. “His life and legacy continue to inspire me — and will inspire generations to come,” she said. “Our world is a better place because of President Carter.” Other UK politicians also paid tribute to Mr Carter. Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey said he was “an inspiration” who “led a truly remarkable life dedicated to public service with a genuine care for people”. Scottish First Minister John Swinney described the former president as “a good, decent, honest man who strove for peace in all that he did”, while Welsh First Minister said he was “a remarkable man” and “a humanitarian and scholar”. Former prime minister Sir Tony Blair said Mr Carter’s “life was a testament to public service”. He added: “I always had the greatest respect for him, his spirit and his dedication. He fundamentally cared and consistently toiled to help those in need.” Gordon Brown, another former prime minister, said it was a “privilege” to have known Mr Carter, who “will be mourned, not just in America, but in every continent where human rights are valued”. Mr Carter is expected to receive a state funeral featuring public observances in Atlanta, Georgia, and Washington DC before being buried in his hometown of Plains, Georgia. A moderate democrat born in Plains in October 1924, Mr Carter’s political career took him from the Georgia state senate to the state governorship and, finally, the White House, where he took office as 39th president in the wake of the Watergate scandal and the Vietnam War. His presidency saw economic disruption amid volatile oil prices, along with social tensions at home and challenges abroad including the Iranian revolution that sparked a 444-day hostage crisis at the US embassy in Tehran. But he also brokered the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel, which led to a peace treaty between the two countries in 1979. After his defeat in the 1980 presidential election, he worked more than four decades leading The Carter Centre, which he and his late wife Rosalynn co-founded in 1982 to “wage peace, fight disease, and build hope”. Under his leadership, the Carter Center virtually eliminated Guinea Worm disease, which has gone from affecting 3.5 million people in Africa and Asia in 1986 to just 14 in 2023. Mrs Carter, who died last year aged 96, had played a more active role in her husband’s presidency than previous first ladies, with Mr Carter saying she had been “my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished”. Earlier this year, on his 100th birthday, Mr Carter received a private congratulatory message from the King, expressing admiration for his life of public service
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 03, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Glancy Prongay & Murray LLP (“GPM”) reminds investors of the upcoming December 16, 2024 deadline to file a lead plaintiff motion in the class action filed on behalf of investors who purchased or otherwise acquired WM Technology, Inc. (“WM Technology” or the “Company”) (NASDAQ: MAPS ) securities between May 25, 2021, and September 24, 2024 , inclusive (the “Class Period”). If you suffered a loss on your WM Technology investments or would like to inquire about potentially pursuing claims to recover your loss under the federal securities laws, you can submit your contact information at www.glancylaw.com/cases/WM-Technology-Inc/ . On August 9, 2022, WM Technology disclosed it had received an internal complaint concerning the calculation and reporting of Monthly Active Users (“MAUs”). The Company revealed that a significant portion of its MAU growth was driven by pop-under ads. The Company also acknowledged that most users from these ads left the site without interacting further. On this news, the Company’s stock price fell $0.87 or 25.1%, to close at $2.59 per share on August 10, 2022, thereby injuring investors. Then on September 24, 2024, the SEC announced it had charged the Company, the Company’s former CEO Christopher Beals, and the Company’s former CFO Arden Lee for “making negligent misrepresentations in WM Technology’s public reporting of a self-described key operating metric, the “monthly active users,” or “MAU,” for WM Technology’s online cannabis marketplace.” The SEC further announced it had “instituted a related settled administrative proceeding against WM Technology” and “WM Technology also agreed to pay a civil penalty of $1,500,000.” On this news, the Company’s stock price fell $0.02 or 1.89%, to close at $0.92 per share on September 25, 2024, thereby further injuring investors. The complaint filed in this class action alleges that throughout the Class Period, Defendants made materially false and/or misleading statements, as well as failed to disclose material adverse facts about the Company’s business, operations, and prospects. Specifically, Defendants failed to disclose to investors that: (1) the Company, in allowing a key financial metric to be manipulated, did not maintain adequate internal controls over financial reporting; and (2) as a result, Defendants’ positive statements about the Company’s business, operations, and prospects were materially misleading and/or lacked a reasonable basis at all relevant times. NoneEver since the American Dialect Society first selected a Word of the Year at its 1990 conference, more than half a dozen English dictionaries have made it an annual ritual to anoint a word or phrase that encapsulates the zeitgeist of the year. In 2003, the Merriam-Webster Dictionary bestowed the crown on the word “democracy.” In what may be a nod to what’s happened in politics in the 21 years since then, Webster yesterday selected “ polarization ” as its word for 2024. It joins popular words and phrases of the moment highlighted by other dictionaries, including “ brat ,” “ manifest, ” “ demure ” and “ brain rot .” The winners are selected in various ways. This year, the editors of the Oxford dictionaries selected their top word in part based on votes cast by the public from a short list of candidates . The winner – “ brain rot ” – encapsulates the mind-numbing effects of excessive social media use. Oxford University Press said the frequency of the phrase increased 230% from the previous year. Amazingly, the term isn’t a new concept. In the concluding section of the American classic “ Walden ,” published in 1854, Henry David Thoreau complained that “brain rot” prevailed “ widely and fatally .” Debby Waldman Nov. 25, 2024 Given the steep decline in the sale of printed reference works 170 years later, announcements of “words of the year” raise the visibility of the publishers’ wares. But their choices also offer a window into the spirit of the times. As a cognitive scientist who studies language and communication , I saw, in this year’s batch of winners, the myriad ways digital life is influencing English language and culture. This isn’t the only year in which nearly all the winners fell under a single thematic umbrella. In 2020, epidemic-related terminology – COVID , lockdown , pandemic and quarantine – surged to the fore. Usually, however, there’s more of a mix, with some selections more prescient and useful than others. In 2005, for example, the New Oxford American Dictionary chose “ podcast ” – right before the programming format exploded in popularity. More commonly, the celebrated neologisms don’t age well. In 2008, the New Oxford American Dictionary selected hypermiling , or driving to maximize fuel efficiency. Permacrisis – an ongoing emergency – got the nod from the Collins Dictionary editors in 2022. Few people use those terms today. Paula M. Carbone Nov. 19, 2024 I already anticipate one of this year’s selections – “brat” – made popular by pop star Charli XCX falling by the wayside. Chosen just before the 2024 U.S. election by Collins Dictionary , the publisher defined it as “characterized by a confident, independent, and hedonistic attitude.” It was the name of Charli XCX’s chart-topping album released in June 2024; the next month, the singer tweeted that “kamala IS brat,” signaling her support for the Democratic presidential candidate. Of course, with Harris’ loss, brat has lost some of its luster. Other 2024 words of the year also have social media to thank for their popularity. In late November, Cambridge Dictionary settled on manifest as its word of the year, defining it as “to use methods such as visualization and affirmation to help you imagine achieving something you want.” The term took off when singer Dua Lipa used it in an interview. She seems to have picked up on the concept from self-help communities on TikTok . Another word that clearly benefited from social media was “ demure ,” chosen in late November by Dictionary.com. Although the word dates to the 15th century, it went viral in a TikTok video posted by content creator and influencer Jools Lebron in early August. In it, she described appropriate workplace behavior as “very demure, very mindful.” The Macquarie Dictionary of Australian English settled on “ enshittification ” as its word in early December. Coined by Canadian-British writer Cory Doctorow in 2022, it refers to the gradual decline in functionality or usability of a specific platform or service – something that Google , TikTok , X and dating app users can attest to. Judy Ho Oct. 29, 2024 Merriam-Webster landed on “ polarization ,” which it defined as “division into two sharply distinct opposites; especially, a state in which the opinions, beliefs, or interests of a group or society no longer range along a continuum but become concentrated at opposing extremes.” In the U.S., political polarization has a number of causes, ranging from gerrymandering to in-group biases . But social media undoubtedly plays a big role. A 2021 review by the Brookings Institution pointed to “the relationship between tech platforms and the kind of extreme polarization that can lead to the erosion of democratic values and partisan violence.” And journalist Max Fisher has reported on the ways in which the algorithms deployed by these social media platforms “steer users toward outrage” – an observation that experimental studies of the phenomenon have supported. Despite the polarization of political and social life, the dictionaries, at the very least, have arrived at a consensus: The tech giants are shaping our lives and our language, for better or for worse. How a blunder in Netflix's Squid Game Season 2 created a chaos that nearly ‘ruined a woman’s life’
There have been rumors Andrew Cuomo is going to throw his hat in the ring and run for mayor of NYC. It's incredibly tone deaf given the political heat he's facing for his handling of COVID and other scandals that plagued his time as governor. We're sure this post was meant to endear him to voters but, hoo boy, is it tone deaf and callous: Hope everyone has a wonderful day surrounded by loved ones. From my family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🍁 pic.twitter.com/Pnx6j82Egt Back in September, this writer told you about Cuomo testifying before Congress about his handling of COVID nursing home policies and deaths, and the fact that Cuomo himself not only altered death numbers but lied about it . The House COVID panel recommended charges. It's incredibly insensitive of Cuomo to post that, seeing as there are a lot of families missing loved ones this Thanksgiving thanks to his policies and lies. Because of you my mother died alone and it was illegal to have funeral Mass. This will always be a sore spot for this writer. Her father died during COVID of an unrelated illness and her family couldn't hold a proper funeral. a LOT of families have empty seats at the table becuase YOU forced illness into their lives. face that. live with that, you horrible, horrible ghoul. Ghoul is too kind. Unless they don't have loved ones due to dying from your policies during covid. Self aware much? Zero self-awareness. @andrewcuomo How many grandparents + mothers and fathers + mothers were sent to their death and died alone because of you? You killed all of those people during Covid because of your terrible policies & failure to serve the citizens that you actually represent, instead of your... Far too many. You are still one of the worst human beings on the planet. And you have blood on your hands. We will pummel you if you attempt to run for anything again. We certainly hope so. Nice to see your kids still have a grandma...my kids don’t. RIP to my mom 9/14/2021 We are truly sorry for your loss. Ahhh isn’t that lovely you are pictured with your mother. Would have you put her in a nursing home with Covid patients Not a chance. Oh boy. That’s kinda messed up considering what you did. Really, really messed up. How fortunate for him. https://t.co/cuOTmObqGZ Janice lost both of her in-laws thanks to Cuomo's COVID policies. You killed our loved ones’, so no... https://t.co/hHv3vloUcS Yeah, a hard no for a lot of NYC residents. Hey, remember when you forced COVID patients into nursing homes, resulting in thousands of unnecessary deaths? The survivors of those deceased loved ones remember. So does everyone else. https://t.co/ocXY92HKOU We'll never forget. However, the N-Dubz star has since left the jungle following a public vote but viewers of the show are shocked at her actions since. Before heading into the Australian jungle, celebrities often share pictures of themselves in their camp uniforms and the ITV show also shares videos and images of them while they’re in there which they share to their own personal accounts. However, viewers noticed the lack of Instagram posts about Tulisa’s time in the jungle following her exit. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, fans of the show noticed the singer has deleted her posts about the ITV show and her involvement. After leaving the show, Tulisa would’ve been given her phone back so it’s likely she deleted the posts herself. One viewer said: “Why has Tulisa deleted everything from her socials in relation to #ImACeleb”. Another commented: “Why has Tulisa deleted all traces of I’m a celeb off her socials?” A third called the singer out, saying: “So grateful you delete all trace of I’m a Celeb on your Instagram ey Tulisa?” After public votes, three celebrities have been eliminated from the ITV show so far. Loose Women star Jane Moore was the first to leave while Dean McCullough, a BBC Radio 1 presenter, was the second to be reunited with loved ones. N-Dubz star Tulisa was the third to leave the jungle and said: “It is tough in there, leaving is still a happy thing.” Speaking about her I'm A Celebrity experience, she added: “I just think you're more grateful for everything, the you eat, being around the people you love, the home comforts, just makes you very appreciative of life.” Tonight (December 3), another celebrity will leave the jungle.By ZEKE MILLER, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team on Tuesday signed an agreement to allow the Justice Department to conduct background checks on his nominees and appointees after a weeks-long delay. The step lets Trump transition aides and future administration staffers obtain security clearances before Inauguration Day to access classified information about ongoing government programs, an essential step for a smooth transiton of power. It also allows those nominees who are up for Senate confirmation to face the background checks lawmakers want before voting on them. Teams of investigators have been standing by to process clearances for Trump aides and advisers. “This agreement with the Department of Justice will ensure President Trump and his team are ready on Day 1 to begin enacting the America First Agenda that an overwhelming majority of our nation supported on Election Day,” said Susie Wiles, Trump’s designate to be White House chief of staff. The announcement comes a week after the Trump transition team signed an agreement with the Biden White House to allow transition staff to coordinate with the existing federal workforce before taking office on Jan. 20. The White House agreement was supposed to have been signed by Oct. 1, according to the Presidential Transition Act, and the Biden White House had issued both public and private appeals for Trump’s team to sign on. Security clearances are required to access classified information, including on ongoing operations and threats to the nation, and the Biden White House and outside experts have emphasized to Trump’s team the importance of having cleared personnel before Inauguration Day so they could be fully briefed and ready to run the government. Republican Senators have also insisted on FBI background checks for Trump’s nominees before they face confirmation votes, as has been standard practice for decades. Lawmakers have been particularly interested in seeing the findings of reviews into Trump’s designated nominee for defense secretary, former Fox News host Pete Hegseth, and for Rep. Tulsi Gabbard to be director of national intelligence. “That’s why it’s so important that we have an FBI background check, a committee review of extensive questions and questionnaires, and a public hearing,” said. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine on Monday. John Thune, the incoming Senate Republican leader, said the Trump team “understands there’s going to have to be a thorough vetting of all these nominees.” AP congressional correspondent Lisa Mascaro contributed.
Australians are worse off today than they were three years ago, but Treasurer Jim Chalmers argues they would be mired in even more economic misery under the coalition. Login or signup to continue reading Living standards, measured by real disposable income per capita, has fallen more than 10 per cent since Labor took office in May 2022 as inflation and interest rates have eaten into household savings. The figures were laid bare in a grim national accounts reading for Dr Chalmers, complicating his job of selling his party as superior economic managers than the opposition ahead of the next election, due by May. Wednesday's data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed the economy grew at its slowest annual rate since the 1990s recession, outside of the COVID-19 pandemic, at just 0.8 per cent. Without government spending, the economy would have gone backwards for the quarter. Dismal productivity growth shows a long-term solution remains out of reach. Dr Chalmers claimed government cost-of-living measures like energy rebates have helped ease the burden for Australians doing it tough. "When we came to office, people were already going very substantially backwards," he told ABC Radio National on Thursday. "We acknowledge that they've got a lot of ground to make up in their household budgets." Nationals leader David Littleproud said the government failed to fix the fundamentals behind the sluggish economy, instead throwing money at the problem with measures like energy rebates. He refused to commit to extending the $300 rebates when they run out mid-2025. "(Prime Minister) Anthony Albanese slammed our economy into a wall," he told Channel Nine's Today Show. "He's tried to solve the nation's problems by spending your money and ultimately he's going to run out of that and he's fuelling inflation." Dr Chalmers said if the coalition had their way, government spending would be slashed and people be going backwards. "So the question for people will be, are you going to be better off or worse off if the coalition gets back in, and comes after Medicare and comes after your wages again like they did last time?" Dr Chalmers said. "Or will you be better off under a Labor government, led by Anthony Albanese, rolling out cost-of-living help and managing the economy responsibly. "That'll be one of the big key choices at the election." Dr Chalmers stressed there were green shoots for the economy, with workers experiencing real wages growth, unemployment low and inflation coming down, albeit slower than the Reserve Bank would like. His optimism was echoed by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, which said Australia's economic growth prospects were improving. But the Paris-based organisation warned immigration policies, unexpectedly stubborn services inflation and escalating global trade tensions posed risks. "Policymakers should beware, in seeking to curb immigration to ease pressures on housing costs, of worsening labour shortages, including in house-building," the outlook read. Australia has experienced sharp growth in migration as borders reopened after the pandemic, with both the federal government and opposition proposing or implementing measures to slow new arrivals. The OECD also warned inflation could stay higher than expected and prolong the wait for interest rate cuts. In addition, as a small open economy, Australia was exposed to rising global trade tensions and a weaker Chinese economy. The OECD expects Australia's weak economy to improve on expectations of interest rate cuts next year as well as improving real wages, income tax cuts and extended energy assistance. It projects GDP growth to pick up to 1.9 per cent in 2025 and 2.5 per cent in 2026. Australian Associated Press DAILY Today's top stories curated by our news team. Also includes evening update. OTTAWA – First Nations chiefs agreed today to launch new negotiations with Canada over child welfare after voting down a $47.8 billion deal in October. Chiefs at the Assembly of First Nations voted to start talks anew as well as to include Northwest Territories in any new agreements at a special assembly in Ottawa. The $47.8 billion was struck after decades of advocacy and litigation from First Nations and experts, seeking to redress decades of discrimination against First Nations children who were torn from their families and placed in foster care. That was because the child welfare systems on reserves were not funded to provide services that could keep families together. But chiefs said the negotiations on long-term reforms weren’t as transparent as they could have been, and worried the deal didn’t go far enough to protect children. By Clarissa-Jan Lim Former Rep. Matt Gaetz , whose political career was dramatically upended in the past month, has lined up a new gig as a political talk show host on the conservative One America News Network (OAN). The network, announced on Tuesday that “The Matt Gaetz Show” will run every weeknight starting in January 2025. Gaetz will also begin co-hosting a podcast with OAN’s Dan Ball, which will cater to a younger audience next year, the network said. Gaetz’s pivot to right-wing talk show host is not totally out of left field; the former congressman has a reputation for pushing baseless claims about the Jan. 6 attack , insulting his opponents, and stirring up drama with his colleagues . News of his latest gig follows a tumultuous few weeks in his career. In mid-November, President-elect Donald Trump sent shockwaves throughout Washington, D.C., when he announced he would nominate the Florida Republican as his attorney general. Gaetz, who was being investigated by the House Ethics Committee at the time, abruptly resigned from Congress after Trump's announcement, effectively ending the panel’s jurisdiction over him. But the ethics investigation remained an issue for Gaetz, and his former House colleagues were divided along party lines about whether or not to release the ethics report on the probe. (A separate Justice Department investigation into allegations that Gaetz engaged in sex trafficking ended last year without any charges being brought against him. Gaetz has denied any wrongdoing.) As the pressure over the report’s release grew, Gaetz withdrew from consideration for attorney general . He subsequently said he would not join the new Congress , despite having easily won re-election in November. Gaetz has not appeared to have completely abandoned his political aspirations, however. He has amplified a follower’s suggestion on social media that he run for governor of Florida, even though he has publicly denied that he was interested in the position. In the meantime, Gaetz seems intent on staying in the spotlight, judging by his recent moves. Aside from his upcoming job as a talk show host, he joined the platform Cameo two weeks ago, making personalized videos for fans for hundreds of dollars apiece. De behoorlijke toename van nieuwe verkooppartners en de succesvolle, voortdurende ontwikkeling van bestaande verkoopcarrières spelen een belangrijke rol in de succesvolle groei van het bedrijf in de stad Ahlen. Deze ontwikkeling is te danken aan de voltooide heroriëntatie van het carrièreplan voor de verkooppartners. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George has a bone bruise on his left knee and will miss two games, the team said Thursday. The 76ers said George did not suffer any structural damage when he injured the same knee that he hyperextended during the preseason in Wednesday night's loss at Memphis. The game marked the first time this season the All-Star trio of George, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey started a game together. George will miss home games Friday against Brooklyn and Sunday against the Los Angeles Clippers, his former team. A nine-time All-Star, the 34-year-old George will be evaluated again on Monday. Wednesday's 117-111 loss to the Grizzlies dropped the Sixers to 2-12, the worst record in the NBA headed into Thursday night's games. George signed a four-year, $212 million contract with Philadelphia after five seasons with the Clippers. He has averaged 14.9 points in eight games this season. Embiid has been out with injuries, load management rest and a suspension, while Maxey was sidelined with a hamstring injury. An expected contender in the Eastern Conference, the Sixers haven't won since an overtime victory against Charlotte on Nov. 10.
