The scientist started out as an aerospace engineer but set his sights on revolutionizing the car world. Ernst said: “The colleagues at the university said, well, he’s an oddball, but he’s got a track record [of achievements in aerospace technology,] so let’s just let him do it." His modified van became the first self-driving car when it rode on a skidpan on the university campus. He upped the stakes when he sent his creation down the unopened autobahn at top speeds. Ernst then said he was approached by German carmaker Daimler to get a self-driving car on a busy Parisian road. The creator revealed he found this proposition to be "absurd" but eventually agreed to take on the challenge. The autonomous car picked up a group of elite visitors from Charles de Gaulle Airport and drove onto an open motorway where it was switched to self-drive mode. Ernst's creation was able to switch lanes on its own, while an engineer remained behind the wheel in case something went wrong. One of the engineers said: “Sometimes, we would take our hands off the wheel." This remarkable team even took one of their self-driving creations on a long ride from Southern Germany to Denmark . Despite its successes, this car did not become mainstream due to a lack of funding from Daimler. BIG CHANGES Driverless cars are slowly becoming more and more normal on our roads. Self-driving taxis have become a controversial part of San Francisco, as the Waymo robo-cabs don't even have a driver behind these wheels for emergencies. The future of Sydney coach John Longmire is uncertain ahead of a major club announcement on Tuesday afternoon. The Swans declined to comment amid speculation, put to them by this masthead, that Longmire would walk away on Monday night. Longmire and his manager Liam Pickering were also contacted for comment. One of the most respected and highly regarded coaches in football, the 53-year-old coached the Swans to a premiership in 2012 before suffering grand final losses in 2014, 2016 and 2022. He was contracted for the upcoming season. People close to Longmire have said he had contemplated walking away from the game in recent years to live on his farm. The Swans have a history of succession planning for their new coaches. Longmire took over from Paul Roos under such a plan. Assistant coach Dean Cox has been part of Sydney’s coaching structure since 2017, and currently oversees game strategy and performance and would be considered highly likely to take over from Longmire. The police, councils and social landlords would be given the power to impose “respect orders” on hooligans, drug users, street drinkers, fly-tippers , nuisance neighbours and others committing antisocial behaviour. The orders, a version of the antisocial behaviour order (Asbo) introduced by Tony Blair, would give the police the power to ban offenders from urban centres and parks. Where appropriate, perpetrators would have to attend anger management courses or rehabilitation treatment for drug or alcohol problems. Tamil Nadu police have issued a warning about a new phishing scam targeting UPI users. Fraudsters are distributing a malicious app disguised as the " PM Kisan Yojna " app. Once installed, this app can gain control over users' SMS and device permissions, allowing scammers to intercept sensitive information and authorize unauthorized transactions . The malicious app collects personal data, including Aadhaar number, PAN, and date of birth, and uses it to register devices on UPI platforms. "The fraudsters intercept SMS traffic and use it to manipulate UPI applications. They use the intercepted data to register devices on UPI platforms, enabling unauthorized transactions. It also collects sensitive personal data, such as name, Aadhaar number, PAN, and date of birth, through a web form," said a statement from state headquarters of cyber crime wing. It further added, "This sophisticated method of attack has caused financial and emotional distress to several individuals, with the scammers exploiting the trust associated with government benefit schemes and urgency." The Police warned users that multiple incidents of unauthorised bank transactions through UPI apps, particularly PhonePe, have been reported recently. "Upon investigation, it has been discovered that in all reported cases, the deducted amounts were transferred exclusively to Amazon Pay," the official release added. How to protect yourself from such scams To protect yourself, the police advise against downloading apps from unofficial sources, especially those shared via WhatsApp . Always use official government websites and apps downloaded from official App Stores for financial transactions. If you suspect any unauthorized activity, report it immediately to the authorities.

The six-team league is in the process of issuing requests for proposals, both for markets the league has targeted and others where groups have approached the PWHL to express interest in having a team, according to the PWHL's senior vice president of business operations, Amy Scheer. The level of interest since the league opened to expansion proposals less than a month ago has kept Scheer busy booking meetings with interested groups. "We need to do a lot of learning about the markets and how we would be supported there, and what does the model look like," she said in an interview with CBC Sports. "Our fact-finding mission is fun, and we'll continue until we feel we've got all the information we need." The PWHL will launch its second season on Saturday with the Toronto Sceptres hosting the Boston Fleet at 2 p.m. ET at Coca-Cola Coliseum. The game will be streamed on CBCSports.ca, CBC Gem, and CBC Sports App. Media, youth hockey systems, geography and economic opportunity are among some of the factors the PWHL is considering when evaluating potential expansion markets. The league ultimately hired a New York-based company to help develop brands for each of the six teams, and unveiled the new team names and logos in September. "You can't just come out and say here's the name of the team with none of those supporting materials," Scheer said. "You just need to do things the right way." The PWHL unveiled new jerseys from Bauer earlier this month. Jerseys were sold out for some teams online throughout the season, and lines to get merchandise in arenas could be long. "We 100 per cent underestimated the demand," Scheer said. When they launched the new names and logos in September, merchandise sales broke records from the last season. Those records were broken again when the league launched new Bauer jerseys earlier this month. "There's the potential, if the pace continues, that we could sell out of our jerseys by March," Scheer said. "That's something that we're looking at now: how do we start planning to not be sold out by March? Can we get them in from overseas?"
