VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Brayden Point scored twice and added two assists, and the Tampa Bay Lightning edged the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 on Sunday. Nikita Kucherov had a goal and two helpers for the Lightning, while Jake Guentzel scored on a power play late in the third period. Captain Quinn Hughes and Kiefer Sherwood found the back of the net for the Canucks. Tampa Bay’s Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 22 of the 24 shots he faced and Kevin Lankinen made 28 saves for Vancouver. Lightning: Kucherov, who returned to the lineup Sunday after missing two games with a lower-body injury, added another potent piece to Tampa’s red-hot power play. The Lightning were 2 for 4 with the man advantage and scored a power-play goal for the sixth straight game. Canucks: Hughes took a stick to the face 55 seconds into the game, missed more than 11 minutes, then returned to open the scoring 16:08 into the first period. It was the 50th goal of the defenseman’s career and extended his points streak to seven games with three goals and 10 assists across the stretch. Tampa took the lead 6:29 into the second when Kucherov sliced a pass to Point at the bottom of the faceoff circle and the Lightning winger blasted it in past Lankinen for his 17th of the season. Kucherov put the visitors on the board just a minute and 49 seconds earlier. Point scored his league-leading 10th power-play goal of the season. He’s one away from becoming the third player to score 100 power-play goals for the Lightning. The Canucks continue a six-game homestand Tuesday against the St. Louis Blues. Malik Nabers looked down at the floor, scoffed, then shrugged his shoulders. Shortly after his team’s eighth loss in a row, Nabers was asked why nightmarish mistakes — like Graham Gano ’s blocked chip-shot field goal that sealed the win for the Saints on Sunday, or Tyrone Tracy’s fumble on the first play of overtime vs. the Panthers last month — have been so prevalent for the Giants this season. BUY GIANTS TICKETS: STUBHUB , VIVID SEATS , TICKETMASTER “That’s just football, I guess,” Nabers said. “That’s just the New York Giants this year.” He’s spot on. Plays like this — plus the dismal 2-11 record — should devastate every Giant. No NFL player ever wants to lose, no matter what it means for their future pick chances. But here’s the reality: Mistakes and losses like this are exactly what they need if they want to finally douse the dumpster fire they’ve been dealing with since their last Super Bowl win. If Tracy doesn’t fumble the ball in Munich and the Giants charge down the field to beat the three-win Panthers, they might’ve stuck with Daniel Jones at quarterback a few more weeks. Like him or not, Jones would have certainly given the Giants a better shot to win (and ruin their draft order) than Drew Lock or Tommy DeVito . If Gano had nailed the field goal on Sunday, his teammates would have had a prime chance for the OT win — which would have shot them from No. 2 to No. 7 in the draft order (and invited the 5-8 Saints right back into the 10-team race for the top pick). That’s not to say everybody benefits from these losses. The players are surely demoralized, which risks a losing culture being built among the young roster. Coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen — who were promised job security by co-owner John Mara during the season, but not beyond — obviously want to win, too. But with 11 losses already in hand — and the No. 1 pick well within reach — it’s time for Mara to pick a direction: Either send Schoen and Daboll packing, or reassure them that they’re safe so they can finish the tank/secure the lottery ticket for the quarterback of the future. And look, nothing’s ever guaranteed in the draft. Schoen, who has an abysmal draft history in three short seasons as Giants GM, knows that all too well. But if the Giants want to turn things around, they need the best possible pick to try to find that next franchise face. It may be a tough pill to swallow, but the only current path there is by bottoming out. Consider this, if you’re not convinced: Would you rather pull a 2023 Giants, steal a few meaningless games down the stretch and miss out on the top names in the draft? Or does having the clear path to the No. 1 pick — which would give you the right to draft Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders or Miami’s Cam Ward — sound more enticing? Elon Musk's xAI artificial intelligence company on Saturday rolled out a free beta version of its Aurora image generator, capable of producing photo-realistic pictures upon request. The Aurora service is available through the Grok 2 add-on to Musk's X social media platform, which for all users earlier this week. "Congrats for releasing a brand new image gen model -- Aurora!" xAI developer Chris Park Saturday. "Grok 2 + Aurora is now available with your X app in the model selector. Oh, by the way, Grok 3 is coming!" xAI doesn't need to wait until Monday. This team is too cracked and stays shipping. Congrats for releasing a brand new image gen model -Aurora! Grok 2 + Aurora is now available with your X app in the model selector. Oh, by the way, Grok 3 is coming. — Chris Park (@chrisparkX) Under the terms of the free service, users can send up to 10 messages to Grok every two hours and generate up to three images per day, . One AI analyst reacted by noting the roll-out was done over a weekend. "I don't think people realize how much effort goes into these launches," Rowan Cheung, producer of The Rundown AI newsletter. "OpenAI, Google, etc., would rarely -- if ever -- launch something big over the weekend, given the risks and the need to pull in more people if something goes wrong. "Something to pay attention to." Like earlier versions of xAI's ultra-realistic image generator, it appeared unclear on Saturday what if any guardrails exist on what can be drawn, including ultra-realistic depictions of public figures. Some early users reported being able to generate images of well-known celebrities and politicians, such as Musk and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Grok + Aurora achieves a level of photorealism that I have never seen before in Gen AI. Here is and made with . — Pasquale (@raider99k) When first introduced for premium subscribers in August, xAI claimed its image generator to exclude "illegal activities" and "deepfakes or misleading media," yet users were still able to generate highly controversial images such as former President Barack Obama taking illegal drugs or presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris holding guns.
