Highlighting the situation of temple lands in Telangana with approximately 2.5 lakh acres belonging to 9608 temples, VHP alleged numerous instances of temple lands encroachment, including in prime locations like Abids and Banjara Hills. Interestingly, there was one instance during the BRS government when the Abhayanjaneya Swamy temple in Film Nagar was demolished by a real estate developer in November 2021. The VHP had given a similar warning back then, even going to the extent of declaring ‘Kar Seva’ if the real estate developer, who demolished the temple, failed to rebuild the temple in its original location. However, their warnings vanished in the thin air in no time for reasons better known to the Hindutva organisation’s leaders. The 45th session of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), slated for Sunday in the sisterly State of Kuwait, is expected to make many recommendations that align with the serious challenges facing the Arab region, including the situation in the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, as well as the difficult political, economic and security circumstances that cast their shadows over many countries, political analysts said. In statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA), analysts expected the discussions to focus on economic challenges and pushing the wheel of development towards achieving more accomplishments. In this context, they stressed the importance of exploring means to promote the GCC Common Market and Customs Union, given the great importance of this file for the countries of the region. Nasser Al Otaibi, political analyst and editor-in-chief of the Kuwait's Al-Jarida newspaper, said the upcoming GCC Supreme Council Summit is being held at a critical time while the entire region is facing devastating wars and conflict, fateful issues and a crossroads. These critical circumstances cast their shadows on the GCC countries, making them a main focus on the Summit's agenda. Al Otaibi added that joint defense and security cooperation will also occupy a prominent place on the agenda in light of the tense conditions sweeping the Middle East. As for the expected recommendations, Al Otaibi said the Summit may call on the international community to assume its responsibilities and acheive a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and to put an end to the ongoing Israeli attacks and violations against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples. In addition, the recommendations may call for building on the two arrest warrants issued by the International Court of Justice against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant, sending a decisive message to countries supporting Israel that Arab countries, including the GCC countries, are exasperated by the systematic attacks and ongoing bloodshed under the pretext of "self-defense." Dr. Ahmed Qasim Hussein, a researcher at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies and editor-in-chief of Arab Policies journal, said the upcoming GCC Summit is being held amid complex security and political challenges, including the regional situation in the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, and the ongoing unrest in the region. He indicated that these conditions combined cast a shadow over the security of the Arab region in general, and the security of the GCC in particular. He indicated that the repercussions of the Israeli war on Palestine and Lebanon will be one of the pivotal issues that will be addressed at the GCC Supreme Council Summit. He also expected that economic challenges, including strengthening the GCC Common Market and Customs Union, will receive special importance, given their vital role in supporting economic integration among the GCC countries. The Summit is expected to pay special attention to technology and digital development, with a focus on the rapid transformations in the artificial intelligence sector. Such issues require effective responses and joint strategies to enhance the capabilities of the GCC countries in dealing with these developments, in a way that achieves sustainable economic growth and contributes to consolidating the region's position as a global center in the field of innovation and technology, Hussein said. Hussein pointed out that strengthening joint GCC action is pivotal to confronting the current security and economic challenges facing the region. To this end, he expected the recommendations to include the establishment of effective mechanisms to deal with emergency crises, in light of the increasing military escalation between Iran and Israel. Hussein called on the GCC states to adopt a pioneering role by launching a regional initiative aimed at mobilizing international support to end the suffering of the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples as a result of the Israeli aggression. He stressed the importance of investing the diplomatic and political capabilities of the GCC states and their leaders to influence the course of events and stop this aggressive war, in order to realize regional peace and stability. To sum up 2024, think of the letter I, as in inflation, interest rates and investments, which dominated headlines. Inflation, the first I Although the rate of inflation retreated from the post-COVID peak of 9.1% annually, consumers continued to struggle with still-high prices on everything from insurance to child care to rent. The final inflation report of 2024 will be released in January, but through November, the Consumer Price Index increased to 2.7% from a year ago, and the core rate, which strips out volatile food and energy, is up 3.3% from a year ago. If borrowers were the losers in a high-interest-rate environment, savers have been the winners. Rates have dipped below 5% on high-yield savings accounts and certificates of deposit, but there are still plenty of good deals out there for consumers. The Fed shifted gears in September, when it cut interest rates for the first time in four years. The central bankers started with a 0.5-percentage-point reduction, followed by two quarter-point cuts in November and December. Although anything can happen, for 2024, the Fed has engineered an economic soft landing. That's the oft-desired though rarely achieved goal of hiking interest rates to bring down inflation without triggering a recession. Although the Fed does not directly control mortgage interest rates, the cost of financing a home remains elevated. A 30-year fixed-rate loan stands at the mid-6% range, just onehalf of a percentage point lower than it was at the beginning of 2024. High interest rates and stilllow inventory remain barriers to entry to would-be home buyers. Investments, the third I Prior to the election, investors were already enjoying double-digit returns on stocks. Those gains continued after the election was decided, on hopes that a second Trump administration would keep taxes low and ease regulations. As stock indexes reach new highs, you may encounter two ends of the emotional spectrum: euphoria or anxiety. I would caution against either of those extremes, because acting on either of them could cause long-term investors a lot of pain. Ben Carlson, director of Institutional Asset Management at Ritholtz Wealth Management, recently provided this excellent advice: "You should only invest in the stock market an amount you would be willing to hold through both bull and bear markets. No one can predict when stocks will take off or get crushed, so your asset allocation should take that into account." For those on the right side of the political aisle, 2024 was a mixed bag. On the one hand, we had to trudge through the final year of Joe Biden’s disastrous presidency while fighting tooth and nail to prevent the administration from inflicting further economic carnage. On the other hand, we also were given an enormous gift at the beginning of November with the victory of Donald Trump. Now, without further ado, I present the top five moments of 2024. First, it goes without saying that the election on Nov. 5 was, by far, the best moment of 2024. At the start of 2024, things did not look good for Trump as he faced a litany of felony charges across multiple jurisdictions. However, despite the legal onslaught, Trump refused to back down. Then, Trump pulled off one of the biggest comebacks in political history as he cruised to victory and helped the Republican Party gain control of both houses of Congress. This election will go down in history as a turning point, considering the vast inroads Trump made among voters who traditionally voted for Democrats. In second place among the best moments of 2024 comes Biden’s devastating debate performance. Although the polls were tight heading into the debate between Trump and Biden, the absolutely pitiful performance by Biden completely changed the state of the race. Soon after Biden flopped in front of millions of Americans, the Democratic Party pulled the plug on his reelection effort. Of course, this short-sighted move benefited Trump greatly. Even more important, it led to the rise of Vice President Kamala Harris to the top of the Democratic ticket. Considering that Harris flip-flopped on basically every central policy position, it really was a blessing in disguise that she inherited Biden’s place and was eventually destroyed by Trump. In third place , and this could have easily been first or second, comes Trump’s survival of two assassination attempts. In midsummer, Trump was crisscrossing the country, holding outdoor rallies. Unfortunately, Trump’s proclivity to engage with his supporters nearly cost him his life. However, despite two would-be assassins somehow evading Secret Service detection, and one getting several shots off, Trump was largely unharmed. While this was a blessing, we also must never forget that one person, Corey Comperatore, died at the Butler rally and two others were wounded. For the fourth-best moment of 2024, I suggest the incredible technological feat achieved by SpaceX. On Oct. 14, SpaceX launched its Super Heavy Starship, the most powerful rocket in the world. Then, in an unprecedented engineering marvel, the 23-story-tall Super Heavy booster returned to the launch pad in an upright position and was “caught” without a hitch. It was like something straight out of a science-fiction movie, and it clearly demonstrated that the age of space exploration has entered a new chapter. Rounding out the best moments of 2024, in fifth place, let’s return to the political arena and the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency. For decades, conservatives and libertarians have been warning that the size and scope of the federal government is totally unsustainable and that big government is bad news for personal liberty. Finally, some significant spending cuts and institutional reforms are in the offing.
