The maximum positive swing in vote share in favour of the ruling party at Sitai in Cooch Behar district is at 26.66 per cent. In Sitai, Trinamool Congress candidate Sangita Roy won by a massive margin of 1,30,156 votes, defeating her nearest rival, BJP’s Dipak Kumar Roy. Roy’s winning margin far surpassed that of the victory margin of her husband and the erstwhile Trinamool legislator, Jagadish Chandra Barma Basunia, in the 2021 Assembly elections who had won by just 10,112 votes. In the bypolls Roy secured 76.08 per cent of the total votes polled up again from 49.92 per cent secured by her husband in 2021. The second highest positive vote swing in favour of Trinamool Congress in the latest bypolls was from Haroa in North 24 Parganas district at 19.29 per cent over what it was in the 2021 state assembly polls. Eby said as a New Democrat he will likely have more in common with Democrat governors and business leaders from the West Coast states. “I can easily have conversations with governors and businesses down the West Coast of the U.S., where we have close relationships and our politics are very similar,” he said. “Premier Smith can have conversations with Republican governors. That would be more challenging for me, and (she) would have more connections potentially with the Trump administration than an NDP administration in B.C. would.” He said a meeting last week between the premiers and Trudeau discussed Canada’s diversity of representation, and how it could bring leverage and advantages in tariff talks. “It’s interesting, there was a lot of talk about what unity means in terms of Canada’s response to the tariffs,” he said. “There’s obviously a diversity of views around the Council of the Federation table of all the premiers. Billionaire Elon Musk and fellow entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy arrived Thursday on Capitol Hill meeting with legislators behind closed doors about President-elect Donald Trump's plans to “dismantle” the federal government. Trump tapped the two business titans to head his Department of Government Efficiency , tasked with firing federal workers , cutting government programs and slashing federal regulations — all part of what he calls his "Save America" agenda for a second term in the White House. “We're going to see a lot of change around here in Washington,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson , as Musk, with a small child on his shoulders, breezed by and into the private meeting.
