Arsenal, Manchester City and Bayern Munich all advanced to the Women’s Champions League quarterfinals with with two games to spare on Thursday. Late substitute Lina Hurtig scored the winner in Arsenal's 1-0 victory over Juventus in London. Khadija Shaw scored twice for City in a 2-1 win at Swedish club Hammarby. City stayed perfect in Group D with four victories and reached the last eight for the first time since 2021. Bayern Munich was held 1-1 at Vålerenga in Norway and still earned a quarterfinal berth after Juventus' loss. Arsenal, Bayern and City join Chelsea, Lyon and Real Madrid in the quarterfinals. Two-time defending champion Barcelona routed Austrian champion St. Pölten 4-1. The Catalan club trails City by three points in their group and is in a strong position to advance. Bayern tops Group C with 10 points, Arsenal has nine followed by Juventus (3) and Vålerenga (1). Man City responded to its first loss of the season, 2-0 at Chelsea in the Women's Super League on Saturday. Still without injured star Vivianne Miedema , Shaw took charge, proving her scoring instincts after half an hour. The forward scored from inside the penalty area with a deflected shot that flew over goalkeeper Anna Tamminen to frustrate more than 20,000 noisy fans at the Stockholm Arena in the Swedish capital. Ellen Wangerheim equalized soon after the interval from close range to rejuvenate the crowd but Shaw struck again to restore the lead just minutes later. This time, she delivered a powerful right-footed finish from the edge of the area. Bayern dominated possession but could not translate it into goals until the 75th minute. It had to rely on substitute Jovana Damnjanović, who gave the visitors a late lead after connecting on a pass from Giulia Gwinn. The Norwegians, who have retained their domestic title, equalized in the 88th on Elise Thorsnes' header following a corner. Pernille Harder, who found the back of the net five times for Bayern in the previous three games, could not do it again on Thursday and was substituted. Hurtig came on with 10 minutes remaining and made her presence immediately felt with several headers. She finally made the breakthrough with a minute remaining in regulation, tapping in from close range after Juventus’ poor clearance of a low cross by Stina Blackstenius. Hurtig won the Italian title with Juventus in 2021 and 2022 before joining the Gunners. Juventus seemed to learn a lesson from its 4-0 loss to Arsenal last week as its defense held firm till Hurtig’s arrival. In an 11-minute span in the first half, Francisca Nazareth netted twice and 18-year-old Vicky Lopez scored once to put Barcelona in control. Nazareth's double was followed by Lopez hitting the third with a shot high into the net for her first Champions League goal. Alexia Putellas made it 4-0 in the second half, finishing a fast attack that tore apart the defense in Vienna. It was her 200th goal for Barcelona and the 100th the club scored in the Champions League’s group stage. Valentina Mädl, an 18-year-old forward, netted a consolation goal for the hosts. Barcelona has scored 20 goals in its past three games and can still become the first club to win its group in all four years since the introduction of the format. The hunt for UnitedHealthcare CEO’s elusive killer yields new evidence, but few answersSoundbars are categorized by the frequency range they fall in. Mid-range soundbars are meant for dialogue, background music, and sound effects. If those things are high on your priority list, look no further than the Bose Smart Soundbar 550 , which is currently $199 (originally $499) at Walmart. This is the lowest price I have seen after checking price-tracking tools . Bose is well known for their great audio products, but not for their design. This soundbar is a boring 4.09 by 27.34 by 2.21-inch rectangle of nearly seven pounds, but all the magic happens with the audio, not the visuals. This soundbar comes with Dolby Atmos and Bose’s TrueSpace technology, which up-mixes all the audio to an immersive multi-channel experience. This means the dialogue will pop out and you'll hear the action sound like it's happening around you. Bose can do this with its five transducers, two of which are upward-firing ones, which combine to bounce sound off your walls and ceiling to mimic a surround sound (to the extent a single soundbar can). You can connect it to wifi to use its built-in music and radio services, or you can connect your phone via Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay 2, Chromecast, or Spotify Connect. It also works as a smart speaker with voice control since you have compatibility with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. For $199, you'll be hard-pressed to find another soundbar of this quality and this many features. This is a budget price for a high-tier soundbar. If you want to hear your TV dialogue better or just want to get a soundbar on a budget, the Bose Smart Soundbar 550 is a solid choice right now.Theory Russia has banned microwave ovens is cooked
The ( ) share price has had a tough 2024 and looked too cheap to me to resist. So I bought the oil and gas giant in September and November at what I thought was a bargain valuation of less than six times earnings. I’m down 7.7% so far but given that I aim to hold the stock , these are early days. Long-term BP investors will have had it tougher, with the shares down 18.93% over 12 months. The trailing yield of 5.95% will only partially offset that loss. The obvious culprit is the oil price, with Brent crude falling 6.36% in 2024 to $71.04 a barrel. Can this FTSE 100 stock rally hard next year? BP is more than just an oil producer, but its shares still correlate closely with energy prices. We saw that during the 2022 energy shock when they rocketed. Where oil goes next is anyone’s guess. There are so many variables at play. US President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to ramp up shale production next year. By boosting supply, Trump could drive the price lower. Although if he gets the US economy motoring again, this could drive up demand. But a trade war could drive it back down. Trump has pledged to bring peace to Ukraine. If he manages that, Russian oil and gas could flow into Europe again, driving down prices. But what if he doesn’t? Then there’s Saudi Arabia. In September, there were rumours that it would open the spigots to recover lost market share, driving prices even lower. Yet last week, OPEC+ delayed the beginning of its production increase and slowed the pace of the output hikes. I’ve just read on that natural gas prices are set to surge this winter . And I haven’t even mentioned the green transition. Will the shift to renewables smash fossil fuel prices? Or will falling oil and gas prices smash renewables? That’s a biggie for BP in particular, as it rows back on its ‘Beyond Petroleum’ strategy, and returns to familiar fossils territory. It’s all too much for my little brain. So what do the experts say? On Friday (6 December), predicted Brent crude would average $70 a barrel in the second half of 2025. If correct, that won’t light a fire under the BP share price. Yet the 26 analysts who offer one-year share price forecasts are optimistic. They’ve set a median target of 505.8p, up 34.25% from today. That seems optimistic but I hope they’re right. Of these, 11 call it a Strong Buy, four name it a Buy while 14 say Hold. Only one says Sell. I can justify my decision to purchase BP . I didn’t hold any energy stocks. Plus its shares were dirt cheap. And the dividend is high and rising. Next year it’s forecast to hit 6.3%, covered exactly twice by earnings. Personally, I don’t know where BP shares will go in 2025. Nobody does. But given the low valuation and high yield, I’m happy to go along for the ride. The Dallas Cowboys pulled off a wild 34-26 win against the Washington Commanders in a game that featured a fourth quarter filled with twists and turns. The teams erupted for 41 combined fourth-quarter points, highlighted by two kick returns. The Cowboys appeared to have the game sealed late, holding a 27-20 lead with Washington backed up inside its own 20-yard line and fewer than 30 seconds to play. (AP) — If the Giants' franchise-record 10th straight loss proved anything, it's that New York could use a young franchise quarterback. Rookie Michael Penix Jr. showed what a young QB can do on Sunday against the Giants, who need to learn from it. The No. 8 overall pick in the draft, Penix played a nearly flawless game in his first career start to help the Falcons thrash the woeful Giants 34-7 in their best performance in weeks. The Giants gambled in 2019 that Daniel Jones would be their franchise QB and it really never panned out. The one exception was the 2022 season, when the No. 6 overall pick had a career year and led New York to a 9-7-1 record and a playoff berth in the first season after Joe Schoen was hired as general manager and Brian Daboll was named coach. The Giants even won a playoff game. With the release of Jones last month, the Giants (2-13) are now a team without a quarterback who can perform at the level required of an NFL starter. Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock have split the last four starts but neither has provided much of a spark for the league's worst offense. Lock handed the Falcons the game with two interceptions that were returned for touchdowns. To turn things around next season, the Giants must find a quarterback. “I’d say it’s very important,” Daboll said Monday. New York is going to have a high pick in the draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin, in late April. It could even be the No. 1 overall selection. Choosing the right quarterback is going to be hard. There isn't a can't-miss choice in 2025 draft and forcing one early would be a mistake. Unless the Giants are convinced that Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders, Jalen Milroe or someone else is the next franchise player, they have have so many needs that it would be better to wheel and deal and fill as many holes as possible. Even if the Giants take a quarterback in the second round, there's bound to be someone available who has a chance to be better than what they have now. The calendar. The season ends in less than two weeks. The franchise is in disarray, and a shakeup appears likely. Daboll's future as the coach is not bright, considering the current skid and two straight losing seasons. Schoen has to share the blame and so do co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch, who hired the GM and coach. LB Darius Muasau. The sixth-round draft pick out of UCLA has started the last three games since Bobby Okereke (back) was hurt and eventually put on injured reserve last week. Muasau had 11 tackles Sunday along with a quarterback hit and a tackle for a loss. He made the defensive calls after LB Micah McFadden left with a neck injury. Lock. In his starts, Lock has had three interceptions returned for touchdowns. He also lost a fumble on a strip-sack at Atlanta. Lock sustained a shoulder injury during the game and had an MRI on Monday. Besides Lock and McFadden, S Jason Pinnock (eye) also left the game. C John Michael Schmitz and RB Tyrone Tracy were evaluated for ankle injuries on Monday. 1 — Thanks to the Raiders' victory over the Jaguars, the Giants will have the No. 1 overall pick in the draft with two more losses. For the ninth and final time, the Giants will try to find a way to win at MetLife Stadium. New York is 0-8 heading into Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts. Its only other winless season at home was in 1974 when New York played at the Yale Bowl in New Haven, Connecticut, while Giants Stadium was being built. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

PLEASANTON, Calif. , Dec. 23, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- 10x Genomics, Inc. (Nasdaq: TXG), a leader in single cell and spatial biology, announced today it had secured a permanent injunction in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware against the GeoMx products sold by Bruker Corporation (Nasdaq: BRKR), which acquired the product line from NanoString Technologies. To minimize the risk of disruption to ongoing research, 10x Genomics requested a carve-out for GeoMx users who installed an instrument prior to the trial in November 2023 . The injunction, which the Court said it will enter in January 2025 , is expected to prohibit Bruker from making, using, selling or offering to sell in the United States its GeoMx Digital Spatial Profiler and associated instruments, reagents and services for RNA and protein detection. At the request of 10x Genomics, the injunction will not block ongoing research by researchers who installed a GeoMx instrument prior to November 18, 2023 . Such customers can continue to purchase GeoMx reagents for use with existing GeoMx instruments for purposes of continuing their ongoing research. The Court found that making such an exception for ongoing research strikes a "workable balance between protecting the patentee's rights and protecting the public from the injunction's adverse effects." In addition, the Court affirmed the $31 million damages awarded by the November 2023 jury verdict, as well as supplemental damages and interest that will be added to the total damages when final judgment is entered. "Today's decision helps to safeguard our decade-long investment in innovation and ensures we can continue to develop groundbreaking technologies that help our customers revolutionize science," said Eric Whitaker , Chief Legal Officer at 10x Genomics. "10x exists to fuel scientific progress – not stifle it – and that is why we've done our utmost to ensure this injunction was structured to protect both our intellectual property and existing GeoMx customers' ongoing research." The Court recognized the harm NanoString's infringing conduct caused 10x when it wrote in its ruling, "Having been careful not to license its technology, 10x suffers when it proclaims itself as an innovator in spatial genomics but a competitor is using the same innovative, patented technology." Today's Court decision follows a November 2023 jury verdict that found that NanoString's GeoMx products willfully infringed seven patents exclusively licensed to 10x Genomics by Prognosys. During the trial, the jury heard testimony from the sole inventor of the patents, Illumina co-founder Mark Chee , and NanoString CEO Brad Gray and NanoString CSO Joe Beechem. After hearing all of the evidence, the jury determined that all seven patents had been infringed by NanoString, that each patent was valid, that NanoString willfully infringed those patents and that monetary damages were owed to 10x for the infringement of all seven patents. In affirming the jury's finding that NanoString willfully infringed, the Court relied on the evidence showing that NanoString knew or was willfully blind that its acts would cause infringement of 10x's rights. The asserted patents in Case No. 21-cv-653-MFK include (a) U.S. Patent No. 10,472,669; (b) U.S. Patent No. 10,961,566; (c) U.S. Patent No. 10,983,113; (d) U.S. Patent No. 10,996,219; (e) U.S. Patent No. 11,001,878; (f) U.S. Patent No. 11,008,607 and (g) U.S. Patent No. 11,293,917. LONDON (AP) — West Ham beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 in the Premier League and heaped more pressure on beleaguered coach Gary O’Neil on Monday. Both sides came into the match under a cloud and the game was widely billed as a make-or-break match for O’Neill and West Ham counterpart Julen Lopetegui. Wolves started the night second to last while the London side was in 14th place, and the pressure and nerves were apparent in an edgy first half that was devoid of class or composure. Mohammed Kudus and Konstantinos Mavropanos had half chances for West Ham, while at the other end João Gomes shot over from a good position. Things improved after the break, and West Ham took the lead in the 53rd minutes from a corner kick. Wolves left Tomas Soucek unmarked at the back post and his looping header sailed into the far corner. Matt Doherty equalized for Wolves in the 69th. However, just three minute later West Ham’s talismanic captain Jarrod Bowen found time and space in the box to slot home with his left foot. West Ham was without Michail Antonio, its ever-present striker who broke a leg in a car crash on Saturday, and Bowen held up Antonio's No. 9 shirt to celebrate his goal. The West Ham players took the field in training tops with Antonio's name and number on them and the home fans gave him a warm round of applause in the ninth minute. “The goal and victory were for Michail," Soucek said. “I said to myself before the game that I wanted to score even more because he has been here since I came and he’s my favorite. It is difficult for me to play without him but I’m happy he is fine. "We had a video call with him before the game. He smiled at us and gave us all the best.” The result left the Hammers in 14th spot, one point behind Manchester United. It was the third defeat in a row for Wolves, who remain on nine points, equal with third-to-last Ipswich Town. “We were okay and solid and probably had the better chances," O'Neil said. “The lads gave everything but we came up short again, which is the story of the last few weeks.” AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccerCarly Teller, the wife of Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Wyatt Teller, has opened up about her experience during the Ohio team’s most recent game. In a recent X/Twitter post shared after the Browns played against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday (December 8), Carly called out the Steelers fan base and revealed how she was treated during the game . “The fans in Pittsburgh today were so blatantly disrespectful to me and the Browns girls,” her post read. “I’ve never felt so attacked by people who I literally did nothing to. Very sad/embarrassing behavior.” Many people in the comments section agreed with Teller that some fans take their love for their favorite team a bit too far. “Sorry, you had to deal with these savages, Carly. I know you repped our city and team with class. It’s a shame you had to be exposed to such horrible people while simply cheering on your man. Us browns fans will always have your back,” one comment read . Another commenter agreed, writing : “That is classless. It’s a rivalry. You can chant at the opposing player/team. Browns fans do it too, but it stays on the field. That is disgusting to behave like that to players’ family members. Families are off limits.” Taking to her Instagram Story, Carly further detailed the incident in text over a selfie with her friend. “When you’re just trying to have a drink and watch your husbands at work but surrounded by Steelers fans who are screaming at you and the entire team,” the text read. However, the NFL player’s wife seemed to brush off the events of the game shortly after. She posted a follow-up message on X/Twitter, which read: “Anyway... back to my bubble in Cleveland to work on my little Christmas cards!” On Sunday, the Browns lost against the Steelers with a final score of 14 to 27. In a press conference , Wyatt addressed his wife’s social media comments about the “hostile environment” at NFL games. “So long as they don’t put their hands on a woman or crazy expose themselves or spit on my wife, you can say whatever you want,” he said. “You have to understand when you’re in a hostile environment, like, that’s what you’re going to get.” Wyatt clarified that the rivalry between the Steelers and the Browns dates back for years, though some fans end up taking it to the extreme. “I pray our fans are a little better, but I know the Dawg Pound can get a little rowdy,” he noted. “I’m not naive to the fact that this rivalry goes so far back. You’ve got to understand it’s hostile out there.” Following the team’s loss, the Browns were ultimately eliminated from receiving a spot in the NFL playoffs. The team will be facing off against reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, on Sunday, December 15.Stocks closed higher on Wall Street at the start of a holiday-shortened week.
