Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said that the government would not let anyone off named in the report of the Parliamentary Investigation Committee on Cooperative Fraud. Addressing the Tamu Journalism Award Distribution and Launching of the Gurung News.com Year Book Programme organized by Tamu (Gurung) Mediapersons' Association Nepal here today, Minister Gurung, who is also the government spokesman, expressed the government's determination to bring to justice anyone implicated in the cooperative fund misappropriation as per the report prepared by the Parliamentary Investigation Committee under lawmaker Surya Thapa's leadership. He said that no one was above the law and made it clear anybody whether they are the leaders or cadres of the Nepali Congress, the UML, Maoist or any other party would be brought to justice. Stating that all those named by lawmaker Thapa's report cannot be brought to justice simultaneously together now, Minister Gurung said, "We will not let off any one and take action against them turn by turn. Let those involved in cooperative fraud never think that they can escape the law. All will be arrested as per the law." He termed as unconstitutional the protest demonstration aimed at freeing Rabi Lamichhane, the President of Rastriya Swotantra Party (RSP), who is in police custody in connection with investigation process on the charge of cooperative fraud. The government spokesman also expressed his objection over such acts which according to him are carried out with the objective of influencing the case which is being considered by the court, calling attention of the sides concerned not to carry out activities that are against the democratic conduct and process. "It is the RSP's responsibility to cooperate in the investigation process against its leader. It is not at all appropriate to seek to influence the investigation process by organizing sit-in and protest demos, until the Respected Court gives its verdict. I urge RSP to stand on the side of the rule of law and the due process, rather than the undemocratic acts," Minister Gurung reiterated. When Tony Clark first visited Chicago 11 years ago, he said he saw homeless people experience “a different kind of horror.” Winters here, the Australian said, are on another level. “I had never seen horizontal ice,” he says. Clark was in Chicago then, in 2013, to accept an award for the “backpack bed” he co-designed with his wife for the unhoused. The idea, which he said came to him in church, was to give people “warmth, comfort and dignity.” He helped distribute about 150 of his backpacks that convert into tents to homeless people across the city then. Now, Clark has returned to Chicago with the goal of handing out many more of the backpack beds. The goal is 1,632, to be exact. That’s the number of people estimated to be living on the streets according to the city’s last Point in Time survey. Clark says he thinks that count is probably low. But he says it’s a starting point. On a wet Friday morning, Clark demonstrated the backpack tent in Union Park, crawling into one himself. He was flanked by representatives from four homeless advocacy groups that will distribute the tents once they raise funds for the $200,000 price tag. That roughly covers the tent price of $124 for every person living on the street according to the latest survey, Clark says. He is asking people to donate at GoodnightChicago.org . When the money is raised, the beds can be shipped to Chicago in late December or early January, he said. The beds can be distributed by the participating homeless organizations, which currently include Inner Voice, Street Samaritans, Our Moms Mission, Franciscan Outreach. Clark, a former IT entrepreneur who speaks with the enthusiasm of a television pitchman, explained the benefits of such a small tent. The 6-pound tent rolls out from its backpack into something that resembles a sleeping bag. But, unlike a sleeping bag, the tent is hardened for tough weather, including snow, rain and even fire. The bags are made of a fire-retardant material that resists burning, he says. When the tent is rolled up into its backpack, the bag still has unused space for belongings. Each tent includes a clear window and two vents, and sports a small Australian flag. This collapsible tent is designed to avoid the pitfalls of other more permanent camping tents that draw the ire of the community, avoiding what Clark said is an “us versus them” dynamic. Dr. Diane Washington, a retired behavioral health psychiatrist at Cook County Health, has been advocating for emergency room doctors to distribute the backpack bed to homeless people they discharge. The tents are especially needed for surviving the winter months. “The No. 1 problem is frostbite,” she said. She’s seen homeless people suffer amputations during the winter from frostbite. Shelter, including a tent like this backpack, would address that issue. Two years ago she and a philanthropic partner distributed 40 of the backpack beds. Jackie Edens, CEO of Inner Voice, says the tents are needed at a time when the city lacks the funding to meaningfully address homelessness. Last spring, voters shot down Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Bring Chicago Home ballot measure, which would have increased the property transfer tax for $1 million-plus to boost funding for homeless services. “There needs to be political will” to address the problem, said Edens, who was commissioner of former Mayor Richard M. Daley’s Office of Workforce Development. Clark speaks of a “philanthropic return on investment” that the tents provide, beyond the sticker price. He points to one estimate that each $124 tent produces $3,319 in “community impact,” when you consider the prevented emergency room visits and potential for employment. Washington said, based on her health care experience, the savings from each prevented ER visits is more likely over $20,000. “The cost of the bed outweighs any of that,” she says. Clark’s nonprofit has expanded since he last visited Chicago over a decade ago. He now sells around 7,000 beds to over 1,000 homeless organization in Australia alone. He says he is connected with 65 groups in the U.S. and hopes to expand to more. “Dignity is the first step to getting people off the streets,” Clark says.

Best Crypto to Buy Now: Why DOGE & PEPE May Recover, But DEBO Is the Secret Investor FavoriteTaylor Swift has made a surprise stop at a Kansas City children’s hospital, shocking parents and patients alike as she laughed with them, posed for photos and exchanged gifts. All parent Cassie Thomas was told beforehand was that she might want to brush her hair and teeth because there was going to be a special visitor. But she was stunned when Swift, fresh off her Eras Tour and one day before her 35th birthday, walked into her son's room on Thursday at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. “No rumors. Like, we literally had absolutely no idea this was happening,” Thomas recalled. Her 13-year-old son, Beckett Thomas, is a cancer patient and a fan of Swift's Kansas City Chiefs tight-end boyfriend, Travis Kelce. Beckett uses a 3D printer to make earrings bearing his and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes' names, walking around the hospital unit selling them to nurses. Now, Swift has a pair as well. “She was amazing,” Beckett's mom said. “So down to earth.” Another patient told Swift that her favorite song was “Love Story" and they later discussed the song “Paper Rings,” in which Swift sings, “I'd marry you with paper rings.” When their conversation veered to discussion of San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy, whose team played the Chiefs in the Super Bowl earlier this year, Swift expressed surprise. Story continues below video “Brock Purdy, What? I mean, I don’t mind Brock Purdy.” Swift said, then continued: “He put me through a lot last February.” Asked before the Super Bowl whether he was prepared to disappoint Swift, Purdy responded: “Yes.” The game ended with Mahomes rallying the Chiefs to their second straight Super Bowl title, 25-22 over the 49ers in overtime. “I was very stressed for a second but it all ended up fine,” Swift told the girl, their recorded conversation posted online. The girl then chimed in: “I like Travis now.” Swift responded with: “Me too. That’s an absolute yes on that one." There is no word on whether Swift will be in the stands when the Chiefs play the Browns on Sunday in Kelce’s hometown of Cleveland.

Crucial Quote “Despite what a handful of online personalities claim, we do not tolerate antisemitism on Twitch,” a Twitch spokesperson told Bloomberg, adding its guidelines apply to all streamers “consistently and objectively.” What To Watch For Whether more advertisers leave. Bloomberg also named Chevron as an advertiser at odds with Twitch, reporting the energy company is considering cutting ties with the semi-annual TwitchCon convention after its name appeared on stage during a TwitchCon discussion where panelists ranked streamers by how Arab they believed they were (Chevron told Bloomberg the panel’s “derogatory comments” did not align with company beliefs). Big Number 2.8 million. That is how many followers Piker has on Twitch. The political commentator also has 1.4 million subscribers on YouTube, where clips from his lengthy streams regularly garner between 100,000 and 300,000 views each. Key Background Amid the antisemitism allegations, Twitch has tried to better moderate political content on its website. Last month, it asked streamers discussing politics and/or social issues to add a newly introduced political content label to their streams. Streamers who fail to accurately label their streams will be hit with a warning and have the label applied to their stream. Repeat offenders will have the label applied to their channel and won’t be able to remove it for a “set duration,” according to Twitch . The platform also banned the use of the term “Zionist” to attack others on the basis of their backgrounds or beliefs. Twitch’s advertising sales have reportedly plateaued since the COVID-19 pandemic eased up, according to The Wall Street Journal , and streamers appear to be feeling the pressure. Multiple Twitch creators recently reported significant drops in the ad revenue they normally bring in. Jason Frank, also known as “The Stock Guy” on Twitch, said his ad revenue is down 95% after averaging around $3,000 per month through the income source. Though Amazon does not publish financial information about Twitch, the platform accounted for less than 0.5% of Amazon’s total 2023 revenue, the Journal reported, noting Twitch’s biggest payers have been spending less money donating and subscribing to the platform’s creators.
