super ace 2 LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Pittsburgh quarterback Eli Holstein was carted off the field and taken to a hospital with a left leg injury sustained while being sacked in the first quarter of Saturday's Atlantic Coast Conference game at Louisville. The redshirt freshman's left ankle was caught at an awkward angle beneath Louisville defensive end Ashton Gillotte's hip on a twisting tackle for a 4-yard loss at midfield. Panthers medical personnel rushed to Holstein's aid, with a cart arriving quickly on the field within minutes. Holstein’s leg was placed in a boot before he was helped onto the cart. He gave a thumbs-up to nearby teammates as he left the field to applause before being taken a hospital. Holstein started for the Panthers (7-3, 3-3 ACC) after missing last week’s 24-20 home loss to No. 17 Clemson with a head injury sustained in the previous game against Virginia while sliding at the end of a run. He left an Oct. 24 game against Syracuse after taking a hit, but returned against SMU the following week. Holstein completed 3 of 4 passes for 51 yards before being intercepted in the end zone by Louisville's Stanquan Clark on the game-opening possession. He was relieved by junior Nate Yarnell. BEYONCE reigned supreme as she took to the stadium to perform at half-time for the Christmas Day NFL show. And I can reveal the superstar was also the Queen of festive cheer — after paying her staff bumper bonuses and her dancers double pay for joining her in a dazzling performance. Bey, inset, whose estimated net worth is more than £600million, appeared with daughter Blue Ivy at an American football game in Houston, her home city. The show — dubbed the “Beyonce Bowl” — was streamed live on Netflix and produced by her company Parkwood Entertainment. The singer, clad in a white cowboy hat and chaps, performed hits from her country album Cowboy Carter, which included her number one track Texas Hold ’Em. A source said: “Beyonce paid her staff bonuses for working on Christmas Day. "The show was a big business deal and had to happen on Christmas Day so she paid her staff and dancers double pay to make it happen. “She is also planning to bring some of her old dancers back into the mix for her next tour.” But as Beyonce and her 12-year-old daughter lit up the stadium with a flawless performance, her family has been rocked by allegations. Bey’s husband and rapper Jay-Z — real name Shawn Carter — has been accused of raping a 13-year-old girl along with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. The alleged victim claims she was attacked at a Music Video Awards after-party in 2000. Both men strongly deny the allegations. Earlier this week, a judge ruled against Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, who tried to have the woman behind the allegations identified. Judge Analisa Torres refused the motion. At a time when Blue Ivy was carving out a path to fame, her spotlight has been overshadowed. KATHERINE RYAN has hit back after MasterChef’s Gregg Wallace moaned that “middle-class women of a certain age” were behind the sexism complaints against him. In an exclusive chat at the Women in Film and TV awards, Katherine, right, said: “I feel encouraged that we have moved forward so quickly that there are men of a certain age who can’t keep up with the rules. "They haven’t learned quickly enough that they are supposed to speak to us in a different way or respect us in a different way or hold space for us in a different way – I find that really encouraging.” Last month Gregg stepped down from the BBC One show after a probe into his alleged behaviour. He has been accused of making sexual remarks to 13 colleagues – accusations he denies. FLORENCE PUGH has opened up on the prospect of juggling a career with starting a family. The British actress recently starred in rom-com We Live In Time, which is set to hit cinemas on New Year’s Day. It sees Florence play Almut – a former figure skater turned chef – who falls in love with divorcee Tobias, portrayed by Andrew Garfield . She said: “Part of this story is about a woman’s dilemma to either have a successful career or start a family. “And let’s be honest, that’s something that’s still very real to this day. “When men become fathers, it doesn’t set their career back – but it can and still very much does for women. “So it was really important for me that women especially got to sympathise with Almut. “It’s going to be a dilemma I have to juggle at some point – and it’s still such an important subject matter.” It comes after Florence was recently spotted Christmas shopping with her Peaky Blinders boyfriend Finn Cole in London. The couple were first linked in September. LOVE Island star Josh Denzel has announced that he is engaged – six years after appearing on the ITV dating series. While he did not find romance on the show, the reality star announced on Instagram that he had popped the question to fashion model girlfriend Ruby Wong on the slopes in Switzerland . Sharing a collection of romantic snaps on the social media site, he wrote: “My love, every day with you is a gift, and I’m so blessed to spend the rest of my life by your side. “You are my rock, my guide, and my heart. And now you’re my fiancee. I love you always.” IT IS the scandal that has rocked Hollywood. But while Blake Lively is suing her It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni for alleged sexual harassment, it seems that she can count on her close pal Taylor Swift for support. I am told the singer has been regularly checking in with bestie Blake, who played florist Lily Bloom in the film, following claims Justin fat-shamed her and talked about their respective sex lives. A source said: “Taylor has been speaking to Blake nearly every day and is absolutely disgusted by the revelations. “Taylor sticks by her friends and understands how tough the industry can be — especially for women. She is no stranger to legal conflicts and has been offering guidance and advice.” The talent agency that represents both actors has cut ties with Justin since the legal complaint was filed against him last week. And a list of 30 demands was released that Blake made to Justin and others before she would return to filming the movie, which is based on Colleen Hoover's novel and sees Lily navigate an abusive relationship. Legal papers reveal there was a meeting attended by Blake, her actor husband Ryan Reynolds, Justin, studio bosses and lawyers to address her complaints on set. Among the demands made were that Justin’s previous “pornography addiction” and her lack of porn “consumption” no longer be up for discussion. But while Blake is fighting to get her voice heard, it seems that her friendship with Taylor is stronger than ever. The pair, left, have been close since connecting in 2015. Since then, they are regularly spotted out together and Taylor is godmother to Blake’s three daughters — even namechecking them on track Betty from her 2020 album, Folklore. JENNIFER LOPEZ chills out in her warmest winter woollies – and a pair of giant fluffy snow boots . The On The Floor hitmaker completed the look with a huge parka jacket and oversized shades during a festive getaway to Aspen, Colorado. The singer is set to ring in 2025 as a single woman after filing for divorce from her ex, Ben Affleck , in August. And she is staying focused on her career with a part in the film adaptation of Kiss Of The Spider Woman next year. Jen said: “It’s probably the most challenging and rewarding role I’ve ever had. It’s about love, acceptance and finding beauty in the darkness. “I think those themes are so relevant right now.” Perhaps some inspo for her 2025 mood board . . .

EXCLUSIVE Luigi Mangione was 'anti-woke', says friend as he reveals regret over last messages with Brian Thompson 'assassin' READ MORE: 'Sex toys should be banned': Mangione's bizarre rant about Japan Follow all the latest news and updates in the manhunt for UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson's killer By LAURA PARNABY FOR DAILYMAIL.COM Published: 21:18, 10 December 2024 | Updated: 21:30, 10 December 2024 e-mail 44 shares View comments A friend of Luigi Mangione has given a deeper insight into the alleged assassin 's political views - and what might have radicalized him. Gurwinder Bhogal, a UK-based writer, told DailyMail.com Mangione was 'anti-woke', and that he expressed a deep envy for the UK's nationalized health system. Bhogal, who lives in Birmingham, England, suggested Mangione, who has been charged over the fatal shooting of health insurance CEO Brian Thompson, may have become radicalized by what he read on social media. 'Luigi sent me a Twitter DM on June 10th, in which he asked me to show him how to curate his social media feeds,' he told DailyMail.com. 'I forgot to get back to him, and a part of me wonders, if I’d helped him find good information sources sooner, whether he would still have gone on to allegedly shoot the CEO.' The pair began speaking when Mangione, 26, took an interest in Bhogal's blog about politics and 'the digital age' called The Prism, and reached out to him on X. Bhogal said they exchanged more than a dozen emails, seen by DailyMail.com, before sharing a two-hour video chat while Mangione was traveling in Japan . 'He was left-wing on some things and right-wing on others,' Bhogal recalled. 'For instance, he was pro-equality of opportunity, but anti-woke: for example anti-DEI (and) anti-identity politics. 'He expressed interest in more rational, evidence-based forms of compassion, like effective altruism.' 'We briefly touched on the differences between the UK and US healthcare systems,' Bhogal added. 'Luigi complained about how expensive healthcare in the US was, and expressed envy at the UK’s nationalized health system.' Bhogal said they also discussed Ted Kaczynski, the 'Unabomber' who used terrorism to campaign against modern technology. Mangione had previously appeared to praise Kaczynski on Goodreads. 'Luigi disapproved of the Unabomber’s actions, but was fascinated by his ideology, and shared his concerns about rampant consumerism gradually eroding our agency and alienating us from ourselves,' Bhogal said. 'He expressed fears over smartphone addiction. Luigi asked me how to maximize agency in a world constantly trying to deprive us of it, so we also discussed that. 'Overall, the impression I got of him, besides his curiosity and kindness, was a deep concern for the future of humanity, and a determination to improve himself and the world.' Mangione is accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson at point-blank range on December 5 Luigi Mangione, 26, was taken into custody on firearm charges Monday afternoon Bhogal said his overriding impression of Mangione was that he was 'one of the nicest people I've ever met', who even bought him a subscription to Readwise Reader, an app designed to help users retain more information from books. The writer said he was 'bewildered' when his friend was charged with the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on Monday. 'He was so thoughtful and polite that he seemed like the last person I’d suspect of murdering someone,' Bhogal told DailyMail.com. Ivy League engineering graduate Mangione was arrested on Monday morning moments after eating a hash brown in an Altoona, PA McDonald's. Cops closed in on the alleged killer after an employee at the restaurant recognized him from surveillance images NYPD shared online in the wake of the Midtown Manhattan shooting. He was later charged with second-degree murder over the slaying of Thompson, 50, just before 7am on Wednesday outside the Hilton hotel where the exec had been set to make a speech to finance heavyweights later that day. Cops closed in on the alleged killer after an employee at the restaurant recognized him from surveillance images NYPD shared online in the wake of the Midtown Manhattan shooting. Mangione appears to have led police on a 280-mile manhunt from New York City's 6th Avenue to the small Pennsylvania city of Altoona, around 100 miles east of Pittsburgh. He reportedly gave police a fake ID when they started to question him He was located by staff members at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania The suspect was picked up on 86th Street and Columbus Avenue two minutes after he left Central Park in Manhattan's Upper West Side He left a trail of overt clues about his motive, including ammunition etched with the words 'delay' 'deny' and 'depose' and a bag of Monopoly board game money in his backpack left in Central Park. Officials believe the bullet etchings refer to the 'three Ds of insurance' - tactics used by American insurance giants to reject patients' claims. This motive appeared to be even more clearly outlined in a handwritten manifesto cops seized from Mangione during his arrest on Monday, which the NYPD's chief of detectives Joseph Kenny said expressed 'ill will toward corporate America.' 'To the Feds, I'll keep this short, because I do respect what you do for our country,' Mangione wrote in the three-page document. 'To save you a lengthy investigation, I state plainly that I wasn't working with anyone.' 'I do apologize for any strife or traumas but it had to be done,' Mangione added in the document. 'Frankly, these parasites simply had it coming.' Mangione also allegedly had a ghost gun believed to be the rare World War Two era-inspired 9mm pistol used in Thompson's murder, which the New York Post reported was a Swiss-made Brugger & Thomet VP9, and a silencer. He was denied bond and not represented by an attorney during his arraignment in the Blair County Courthouse in Pennsylvania on Monday night. Mangione will next appear in court in New York at a later date. Wade Taylor IV scored 15 points and dished out 10 assists and C.J. Wilcher added 14 points as No. 13 Texas A&M throttled Abilene Christian 92-54 on Saturday afternoon in College Station, Texas. The Aggies (11-2) were in charge from the jump, forging a 19-point lead at halftime and never looking back. Texas A&M scored the first points of the second half, was up by 28 with 13:23 to play and cruised to the finish line while winning its seventh straight game. Taylor's output moved him into second place in the Aggies all-time scoring list. His 1,779 points are now behind only Bernard King, who had 1,990 from 1999-2003. Andersson Garcia and Zhuric Phelps added 12 points each for Texas A&M, which appears to be hitting on all cylinders heading into its Southeastern Conference opener at home against rival Texas on Jan. 4. Phelps added 10 rebounds for the Aggies. Quion Williams led the Wildcats (8-6) with 14 points. Abilene Christian missed its final six shots and went the last 5:24 of the game without a point. The Aggies made a statement in the early going by scoring the game's first nine points over the initial 3 1/2 minutes, with seven of those coming from Coleman. Abilene Christian fought back to within 16-12 after Dontrez Williams' layup with 12:12 left in the half. But A&M swung back, producing a 14-0 run capped by Garcia's layup with 8:51 to play in the half to pull away to a 30-12 advantage. The Wildcats again cut into their deficit, pulling to 30-19 when Cade Hornecker hit a layup with 6:26 to play until halftime. A&M boosted the lead back to 17 points after a pair of free throws by Taylor and got two more from the charity stripe to take a 48-29 edge to the break. Wilcher led all scorers in the half with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc while Garcia hit for 10 points for A&M while making all four of his shots from the floor. The Aggies outshot Abilene Christian 61.5 percent to 40.7 percent before halftime. Quion Williams and Leonardo Bettiol paced the Wildcats with seven points each in the first half. --Field Level Media

Johannesburg, Dec 11 (PTI): South Africa will use the G20 Presidency that it assumed at the beginning of this month to further push the shared goals of member countries, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola has said. Lamola delivered the opening remarks at the first G20 Sherpas meeting on Monday where he said that South Africa's presidency will be held under the theme Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability, which seeks to harness global will and capabilities to confront the enormous challenges the world is facing. "South Africa will use its G20 Presidency to secure urgent progress on shared goals through several priority actions. These include strengthening disaster resilience and response; ensuring debt sustainability for low-income countries; mobilising finance for a just energy transition; and harnessing critical minerals for inclusive growth and development," Lamola said. "In the spirit of Ubuntu, our shared humanity, we will address these challenges through our high-level deliverables and priorities, which lie at the core of the original G20 mandate of promoting strong, sustainable, balanced and inclusive growth and by building partnerships across all sectors of society to find collective solutions," he added. The minister said three temporary task forces, an initiative and a commission will be established during South Africa's G20 Presidency. These would include the priorities of inclusive economic growth, industrialisation, employment and reduced inequality; food security; and artificial intelligence, data governance and innovation for sustainable development. "A review of the work of the G20, 'The G20 at 20 years: A Reflection on Key Achievements and the Way Forward', will also feature as one of South Africa's deliverables through a Sherpa Track Initiative. South Africa also proposes the establishment of a Cost of Capital Commission during its G20 Presidency," Lamola said. The minister said that the South African government would continue the significant strides made by the Brazilian G20 Presidency in enhancing the G20 as a site of democratic global engagement through a comprehensive dialogue with civil society and other state and non-state institutions. He said that in the same way that Brazil had done, a G20 Social Forum will be convened ahead of the Leaders’ Summit in November 2025, to bring together representatives of the existing engagement groups and other segments of civil society that may offer meaningful contributions to the G20. "As we build on the past and set the tone for the future, we must accentuate the need to adhere to universal values, shared norms, and strong multilateral institutions. Now more than ever, multilateral institutions must be strengthened and reformed to deliver broad global consensus and serve as platforms to resolve disputes. "The multilateral institutions with economic and developmental mandates must be strengthened, as the need for their intervention is even much bigger now," Lamola said as he reaffirmed that the UN has to remain at the core of this multilateral approach. "We must remain committed to multilateralism and upholding international law and ensure that the UN remains the centrepiece of this multilateralism," he said. "While international cooperation and multilateralism are currently confronted with divisive geopolitics, unprecedented challenges such as climate change, slow economic growth, and deepening poverty, the G20 must make strides in forging practical, mutually beneficial cooperation that champions an international order that is fairer, just, inclusive, and representative," Lamola said as he called for the G20 to use its platform to shine the spotlight on agenda 2063 of the African Union.
