Queen Mary of Denmark has announced the launch of a podcast focused on helping the most vulnerable in society. The royal, 52, revealed the news on Instagram saying her official charity, the Mary Foundation, would be venturing into the podcast world. Over three episodes, the Lonely Youth series will give a voice to those experiencing social isolation. It follows a landmark survey across Denmark in 2023 which found 73 per cent of 16-19-year-olds experience loneliness, regardless of whether they are alone or in the company of others. Additionally, 17 per cent of 16-24-year-olds feel very lonely. The proportion of Danes who experience loneliness has increased dramatically since the first national survey in 2013. "These are heavy numbers that we must do something about," Queen Mary said. Queen Mary also revealed she was "proud" to be starting the podcast through the Mary Foundation, as she is an avid listener of them. "Some days I'm in the mood for entertainment, and other days I use it to gain knowledge and new input," she said. They will be shared via the Mary Foundation website and other podcast platforms. The Mary Foundation was created in 2007 using money gifted to the then-Crown Princess and Crown and Crown Prince Frederik for their 2004 wedding by the people of Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. The foundation has three core focus areas: bullying and wellbeing, loneliness and domestic violence. While Queen Mary has been compared to Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex , following the announcement, this podcast will be remarkably different in terms of content. Meghan's Archetypes series, which premiered on Spotify in 2022, was hosted by the duchess and featured interviews with famous friends and focused on the different labels put on women. Queen Camilla has also ventured into the world of podcasting through her popular The Queen's Reading Room series, a spin-off from her online book club, which promotes the power and benefits of reading. These new photos will be used by the Royal House of Denmark in connection with, among other things, official trips, visits and special events as well as by the patronages of the King and the Queen.
