Now, security members of the rebel alliance in control of Syria have taken control of the airport, hoping to restore security, a sense of confidence, and the legitimacy needed to restart flights out of the capital, and from one of the country’s three international airports. “Damascus international airport is the heart of the city because it is the gateway for international delegations and missions,” Omar al-Shami, a security official with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, the faction that led the shock offensive that led to the fall of Assad, told The Associated Press, calling it "the passage for Syria to breathe.” Al-Shami said security was restored at the international airport nearly 12 hours after the fall of Damascus. The factions entered the capital before dawn, and security members of the rebel alliance took charge before sunset on Sunday. He said he hoped the airport would be operational in less than a week. On Wednesday, a handful of engineers were inspecting four planes that were on the tarmac. Cleaning staff were removing broken furniture, glass windows, and trash from ransacking by looters following the fall of Damascus. She was surrounded by her loving family in the care of Gascoigne House Nursing Home. A trailblazer in Irish politics, Ms Hussey made her mark as a Fine Gael TD when she entered the political arena in 1981 and became the first female Minister for Education the following year. She also held the Social Welfare and Labour portfolios and was the government leader in the Seanad. Notably, as Education Minister, she was responsible for introducing aural and oral exams. After stepping back from politics in 1989, Ms Hussey played an active role in the European Women's Federation. Her family described her as "a very proud Europhile" who inspired women in former Eastern-block countries to engage in politics for the first time. They expressed deep pride in her lifelong service that contributed to a better Ireland and a better Europe. Predeceased by her husband Derry, Ms Hussey's legacy lives on through her children Rachel, Ruth, and Andrew, her seven grandchildren, her brother Paddy, and a wide circle of treasured friends, reports the Irish Mirror . Ilyda, who claims to have had the condition for as long as she can remember, shared how her parents would buy fishballs and youtiao as a treat after every tuition session when she was in primary school. “One day, I decided I couldn't eat it anymore. Even today, I can't stomach fishballs or youtiao.
