KyKy Tandy scores 21 and Florida Atlantic pulls away late to beat Oklahoma State 86-78Almost 20 (!!!!) years after strutted into our lives in 2006, it's finally happening: Disney is developing a sequel Unfortunately, the highly-anticipated sequel seems to be moving at . So there hasn't been a lot of updates...until now. Speaking at an event at the Red Sea Film Festival in December, confirmed reports that there have been talks about a possible . (Or, as I'd like it to be called, .) Though she couldn't say much—not even if she'd been approached to return—this is definitely the closest we've come to an official announcement. Read on to find out what she said and catch up on everything you need to know about a sequel. When was sequel announced? Gird your loins because , Disney hasn't announced a sequel. Reports circulated in July that Disney was developing a sequel and had tapped Aline Brosh McKenna to return as screenwriter. Deadline also reported that Wendy Finerman, a producer on the original film, was set to work on the sequel, with director David Frankel potentially coming back as well. What will sequel be about? Per the project's storyline would focus on Miranda Priestly, played by , "as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and faces off against [Emily] Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.” TL;DR: Emily, Miranda's neurotic, aggressive assistant in the original film, is going to go head-to-head with her old boss in what I can only assume will be a very fashionable war of the wills. Who will be in it? There have not been any official casting announcements, though based on the reported , one assumes that Meryl and Emily would return to reprise their roles. But, again, without an official casting announcements, all of this pure fan casting. What have the stars said about sequel? Just because Disney hasn't made any announcements doesn't mean stars of the original film haven't spoken out about the possibility of a sequel. Most recently, Emily told reporters at the Red Sea Film Festival, "There's rumblings, there's stuff turning around." She continued, per , "But I don't know if I can confirm anything completely." Um, so you're saying there might be something to confirm? I'll take it! She added that she'd love to reunite with the cast and crew of the original film, noting "We would all be delighted to work together again, and expanded on how playing Emily changed her career in Hollywood. "It paved the way for people to see me more as a character actor rather than someone who should just be in period dramas." Before reports that the sequel was in development, had publicly cast doubt on the idea, telling , "I don't think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen." She expanded on her reasoning a month later, in an interview with , explaining that the current state of the media industry would make a sequel hard to navigate. "There’s a huge difference in the world now with technology, and one of the things about that particular story is it was about producing a physical object," she said. "Now with so much being digital, it would just be very different." But don't count Anne out just yet! "We all love each other and if somebody could come up with a way to do it, I think we’d all be crazy not to," she said, adding that she'd love to reunite with her co-stars Emily and Meryl. She even reprised her role (kinda sorta) at the 2024 SAG Awards while presenting alongside them, so it looks like she's open to the idea. Meanwhile, Emily's brother-in-law and co-star , has he'd "happily play Nigel again." When will sequel come out? As much as I want it RTFN, until there's an official confirmation, there's no way to tell. Knowing what we know about production schedules, I don't think fans should expect to see Miranda's iconic bob again until 2026 at the earliest. Anything else? In the years since the original film came out, the cast has continued to talk about their love for the 2006 classic. Anne and Emily sat down late last year and reminisced about making the movie for . "We just had a joy bomb of a time on that movie. I don’t know if any of us knew it was going to become what it did. It’s quoted to me every week. It will be the movie that changed my life,” Emily said during the convo. “So we’re in the club together," Anne added.
