Kennedy was assassinated , conspiracy theories still swirl and any new glimpse into the fateful day of Nov. 22, 1963, in Dallas continues to fascinate . President-elect Donald Trump promised during his reelection campaign that he would declassify all of the remaining government records surrounding the assassination if he returned to office. He made a similar pledge during his first term, but ultimately bended to appeals from the CIA and FBI to keep some documents withheld. At this point, only a few thousand of the millions of governmental records related to the assassination have yet to be fully released, and those who have studied the records released so far say that even if the remaining files are declassified, the public shouldn't anticipate any earth-shattering revelations. “Anybody waiting for a smoking gun that’s going to turn this case upside down will be sorely disappointed,” said Gerald Posner, author of “Case Closed,” which concludes that assassin Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. Friday's 61st anniversary is expected to be marked with a moment of silence at 12:30 p.m. in Dealey Plaza, where Kennedy's motorcade was passing through when he was fatally shot. And throughout this week there have been events marking the anniversary. When Air Force One carrying Kennedy and first lady Jacqueline Kennedy touched down in Dallas , they were greeted by a clear sky and enthusiastic crowds. With a reelection campaign on the horizon the next year, they had gone to Texas on political fence-mending trip. But as the motorcade was finishing its parade route downtown, shots rang out from the Texas School Book Depository building. Police arrested 24-year-old Oswald and, two days later, nightclub owner Jack Ruby fatally shot Oswald during a jail transfer. A year after the assassination, the Warren Commission, which President Lyndon B. Johnson established to investigate the assassination, concluded that Oswald acted alone and there was no evidence of a conspiracy. But that hasn't quelled a web of alternative theories over the decades. In the early 1990s, the federal government mandated that all assassination-related documents be housed in a single collection in the National Archives and Records Administration. The collection of over 5 million records was required to be opened by 2017, barring any exemptions designated by the president. Trump, who took office for his first term in 2017, had boasted that he'd allow the release of all of the remaining records but ended up holding some back because of what he called the potential harm to national security. And while files have continued to be released during President Joe Biden's administration, some still remain unseen. The documents released over the last few years offer details on the way intelligence services operated at the time, and include CIA cables and memos discussing visits by Oswald to the Soviet and Cuban embassies during a trip to Mexico City just weeks before the assassination. The former Marine had previously defected to the Soviet Union before returning home to Texas. Mark S. Zaid, a national security attorney in Washington, said what's been released so far has contributed to the understanding of the time period, giving “a great picture” of what was happening during the Cold War and the activities of the CIA. Posner estimates that there are still about 3,000 to 4,000 documents in the collection that haven’t yet been fully released. Of those documents, some are still completely redacted while others just have small redactions, like someone's Social Security number. “If you have been following it, as I have and others have, you sort of are zeroed in on the pages you think might provide some additional information for history,” Posner said. There are about 500 documents that have been completely withheld, Posner said, and those include Oswald’s and Ruby’s tax returns. Those files, the National Archives says on its website, weren't subject to the 2017 disclosure requirement. Trump's transition team hasn’t responded to questions this week about his plans when he takes office. From the start, there were those who believed there had to be more to the story than just Oswald acting alone, said Stephen Fagin, curator of the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, which tells the story of the assassination from the building where Oswald made his sniper's perch. “People want to make sense of this and they want to find the solution that fits the crime," said Fagin, who said that while there are lingering questions, law enforcement made “a pretty compelling case” against Oswald. Larry J. Sabato, director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, said his interest in the assassination dates back to the event itself, when he was a child. “It just seemed so fantastical that one very disturbed individual could end up pulling off the crime of the century," Sabato said. “But the more I studied it, the more I realized that is a very possible, maybe even probable in my view, hypothesis.”There’s a reason oil well sales are collapsing in California: Cleanup costs

RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Democratic Party filed a federal lawsuit on Friday seeking to invalidate Republicans’ challenge of over 60,000 ballots cast in the state Supreme Court election. “No North Carolinian deserves to have their vote thrown out in a callous power grab — but this is no surprise from the party of insurrectionists,” NCDP Chair Anderson Clayton said in a press release. “We are prepared to take on Republicans. They can’t stop the results of an election just because they don’t like the fact that we won.” Javascript is required for you to be able to read premium content. ("Merger Sub"), a Cayman Islands exempted company and a direct, wholly owned subsidiary of the Listco. Under the Merger Agreement, Merger Sub will merge with and into Amber DWM, with Amber DWM continuing as the surviving entity and becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Listco (the "Merger"). Amber DWM's shareholders will exchange all of their issued and outstanding share capital for a mix of newly issued Class A and Class B ordinary shares of the Listco on the terms and conditions set forth therein in a transaction exempt from the registration requirements under the Securities Act of 1933. Wayne Huo , Chief Executive Officer and Director of Amber DWM , said: " We are thrilled to embark on this transformative journey with iClick. The transaction values Amber DWM at US$360 million and the Listco at US$40 million by equity value on a fully diluted basis (assuming completion of certain restructuring as set forth in the Merger Agreement). Upon closing of the Merger (the "Closing"), the Amber DWM shareholders and the Listco shareholders (including holders of ADSs) will own approximately 90% and 10%, respectively, of the outstanding shares of the combined company, or 97% and 3% voting power, respectively. The Merger Agreement also contemplates that, upon the Closing, the Listco will change its name to "Amber International Holding Limited" and adopt the tenth amended and restated memorandum and articles of association of the Listco, in each case immediately before the effective time of the Merger (the "Effective Time"), following which the authorized share capital of the Listco shall only consist of Class A ordinary shares and Class B ordinary shares (with different voting powers but equal economic rights), a par value of US$0.001 each. Please refer to the Merger Agreement filed as Exhibit 99.2 to the Form 6-K furnished by the Listco to the SEC on November 29, 2024 for more details. The Listco's board of directors (the "Board") approved the Merger Agreement and other transaction documents, including but not limited to the voting agreement entered into by and among certain shareholders of the Listco (who holds approximately 36% of the outstanding shares representing 71% voting power of the Listco as of the date of this press release), the Listco and Amber DWM (the "Voting Agreement") (collectively, the "Transaction Documents"), and the transactions contemplated thereunder (the "Transactions"), with the assistance of its financial and legal advisors. The Board also resolved to recommend that the Listco's shareholders vote to authorize and approve the Transaction Documents and the Transactions when they are submitted for shareholder approval. In connection with the Transaction, each of the shareholders of Amber DWM immediately prior to the consummation of the Merger is entering into a lock-up agreement with the Listco pursuant to which they have agreed not to transfer the shares received in consideration of the Merger for a period of 12 months following the Merger closing. The completion of the Transactions is subject to the satisfaction of closing conditions set forth in the Merger Agreement, including, among other things, receipt of the Listco's shareholder approval and regulatory/stock exchange approvals (if applicable). The Merger Agreement provides for a long-stop date for any party to terminate the agreement if the Merger is not completed by June 30, 2025 . As explained in the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice, “These mugs’ lid threads can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, causing the lid to detach during use, posing a burn hazard.” According to what Stanley told the CPSC, the lids on recalled travel mugs have detached 16 times in the United States and 91 times worldwide, causing two burn injuries in the United States and 38 worldwide. Of those 38, 11 “required medical attention.” Related Articles National News | Companies tighten security after a health care CEO’s killing leads to a surge of threats National News | Military service academies see drop in reported sexual assaults after alarming surge National News | Unidentified drones spotted flying at locations across NYC, including LaGuardia Airport National News | Woman who falsely accused Duke lacrosse players of rape in 2006 publicly admits she lied National News | Musk says US is demanding he pay penalty over disclosures of his Twitter stock purchases This involves the Switchback model, ID No. 20-01437 in the 12-ounce size and Nos. 20-01436 and 20-02211 in the 16-ounce size; and the Trigger Action model, ID Nos. 20-02033, 20-02779 and 20-02825 in the 12-ounce size; Nos. 20-02030, 20-02745 and 20-02957 in the 16-ounce size; and 20-02034 and 20-02746 in the 20-ounce size. Ukraine says war has damaged most civilian airportsDrake caused a massive uproar thanks to his legal petition against Universal Music Group and Spotify for their alleged artificial inflation of "Not Like Us" in terms of sales. The news even hit mainstream media, and CNN recently asked journalist Sowmya Krishnamurthy about the whole endeavor. Specifically, they went over Drizzy's claim that Apple's Siri would play "Not Like Us" when asked about Certified Lover Boy , which became one of the more viral tech-related stories from the Kendrick Lamar battle. Krishnamurthy explained that there are multiple nuanced reasons as to why this occurred for some people that deserve an explanation. "So I'm going to be honest," Sowmya Krishnamurthy explained concerning the Drake and Kendrick Lamar situation. "I actually did the test during this time, and it did work . When you said, 'Hey Siri, play Certified Lover Boy ,' it did play 'Not Like Us.' It did, yes. I actually posted a video on my YouTube and social media. But I think we all knew that it was pulling from the lyrics. So I think Apple could have an argument that people were searching for that song, or that's what their algorithm was kicking up. Because it is not just titles, but also lyrics. So there's a little bit of nuance there." Read More: J Cole Claims That Jay-Z Once Told Drake To Give Cole A Hit Single "Yeah, that's what a lot of industry insiders are saying," Sowmya Krishnamurthy replied when asked about whether it's plausible that Drake could've benefitted from the same alleged practices that Kendrick Lamar allegedly benefitted from. "For the entirety of his career, Drake really has enjoyed this privilege. Being an industry darling, being the most streamed artist on Spotify for hip-hop. Even now, like, the last time I checked, his monthly uniques on Spotify are more than Kendrick. If we go back to 2018, there was a huge campaign where every single Spotify playlist was Drake. Whether it was hip-hop, pop, country, gospel. So these campaigns by these streaming services or companies, they're not uncommon. But the question is, is Drake now bitter or whining because he's not the beneficiary?" "I think a lot," Sowmya Krishnamurthy answered a question about how much this hurts Drake's credibility . "You know, it's one thing to lose a rap battle... [shake] the hand of your adversary and say, 'Hey, good game.' I think that's good sportsmanship. But this, to me, just really seems like whining. It seems like when things don't go as well. I think you alluded to this earlier. It has that very much 'Stop the steal' energy. That doesn't do too well in hip-hop." Read More: XXXTentacion’s Killer Points To Drake In Appeal BriefThe Philadelphia Eagles got some good (and bad) news on the injury front this week. Star wide receiver DeVonta Smith, out the past two weeks resting what had been a nagging hamstring injury, returned as a full practice participant on Wednesday and recently told reporters “count me in” when asked about his status for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers (1 p.m. EST, FOX). That’s good news. The bad? Tight end Dallas Goedert is back on the shelf, now nursing a knee injury that kept him from practicing at all this week. MORE: NFL picks, score predictions for Week 14: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Carolina Panthers The Eagles enter Week 14 ranked last in the NFL — by far — in average pass attempts per game (25.6). They’ve been riding MVP-hopeful Saquon Barkley and quarterback Jalen Hurts in the run game, leaning more on their dominant offensive line and defense than their passing attack. A key reason for that approach — other than what has been a remarkable eight-week stretch of results — is a skill position group that has barely been whole this season due to various injuries. Philly’s passing game runs through A.J. Brown, Smith and Goedert. Those three have only been in the starting lineup together four times since Week 1, and one of those games — Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns — saw Goedert exit after just three snaps due to a hamstring injury. With that being said, the Eagles might not need to pass on Sunday against the banged-up Panthers team that ranks No. 32 in the NFL against the rush. Who’s in and who’s out for this Week 14 matchup? Here’s a full team-by-team injury breakdown, with the latest updates off of Friday’s practice reports: Eagles vs. Panthers: Full injury designations Carolina Panthers WR Jalen Coker (quad) The undrafted rookie out of Holy Cross trended in the wrong direction this week, as he was downgraded to a DNP on Friday. The Panthers passing game should run through Adam Thielen, Xavier Legette and David Moore vs. the Eagles. EDGE Jadeveon Clowney (knee) Carolina’s top pass rusher didn’t practice all week, but that could be more about maintenance, as he’s been playing through this injury and logged 57 snaps in last week’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . Still, the fact he couldn’t go on Friday at least casts some doubt on his availability for Sunday. CB Caleb Farley (shoulder) Farley has seen an uptick in snaps on special teams in recent weeks. He figures to be on the right side of questionable after upgrading to a full practice on Friday. The reserve corner has played just 35 total snaps on defense this season. LB Josey Jewell (hamstring) The veteran linebacker appears to be truly questionable after practicing in a limited capacity on Wednesday, sitting out Thursday, and returning to another limited session on Friday. He played 80 snaps against the Bucs last week. TE Ja’Tavion Sanders (neck) The fourth-round rookie appears ready to return after what initially looked like a scary head/neck injury a couple weeks ago against the Kansas City Chiefs . After sitting out last week’s game, Sanders returned to practice and upgraded to full participation on Friday. EDGE D.J. Wonnum (knee) Wonnum has given Carolina’s defense a boost since entering the starting lineup in Week 10 against the N.Y. Giants . He played a season-high 62 snaps last week against the Bucs and finished with five pressures, four hurries and three tackles. He should be good to go after practicing in full on Friday. S Nick Scott (hamstring/personal) Scott has been designated to return from injured reserve since Nov. 27, and he appeared to be making strides after logging a pair of full practices to start the week. He missed Friday’s session, though, for personal reasons. RG Robert Hunt (back) Hunt was a late addition to the injury report on Friday, but he was also listed as a full participant. Carolina’s $100 million right guard should be ready for Sunday, barring a setback. Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert (knee) Goedert had previously dealt with oblique and hamstring injuries this season, and he’s currently dealing with a knee issue that knocked him out of practice this week. Grant Calcaterra has filled in well when called upon in the passing game this season, and he could have some opportunities to score this week against a Panthers team that has surrendered nine touchdowns to tight ends in 2024. WR Britain Covey (neck) Covey returned from injured reserve to face the Baltimore Ravens last week, but he’s down again after sustaining a neck injury in that game. He was, however, able to practice in a limited fashion on Thursday and Friday, indicating his absence could be a shorter one this time around. S Sydney Brown (knee) It’s been a frustrating season for Brown, who returned from last year’s season-ending knee injury in Week 7. He’s back down again after he was held out of practice all week. Brown’s biggest contributions this season have come on special teams , where he’s logged 148 total snaps. S Reed Blankenship (concussion) Blankenship was knocked out of the Ravens game with a concussion, and as has been the case often this year with the Eagles, was given this week off from practice. Training camp standout Tristin McCollum is poised to make his first career start against Carolina on Sunday.

No. 22 Illinois 38, Northwestern 28Adrian Kempe scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season and the Los Angeles Kings held off a late flurry to defeat the visiting Seattle Kraken 2-1 Saturday afternoon in the first meeting of the season between the Pacific Division rivals. Quinton Byfield also scored and Anze Kopitar added two assists for the Kings, who won for just the second time in their past five games. Goaltender David Rittich made 19 saves. Original MLS clubs LA Galaxy, NY Red Bulls cap their amazing turnarounds with showdown for MLS CupThere is no question that Nebraska is a Republican state. Our Legislature is controlled by Republicans. Our state governor has been a Republican since 1999. The people of this state have clearly chosen to elect Republicans up and down the ballot. Presumably, voters elected these folks because they viewed Republican candidates as more likely to govern in ways that will better their communities and lives. So my question is: given that Republicans have had complete political control, why have we been forced to resort to the ballot initiative process over the last decade to actually implement the vision voters have on the most important economic issues facing everyday Nebraskans? In 2018 voters, decisively approved a minimum wage increase, and in 2022, voters passed Medicaid expansion — protecting rural hospitals and paving the way for new ones like that in Central City — because their Republican elected state representatives wouldn’t do it. And this November voters overwhelmingly passed initiatives demanding medical marijuana and paid family leave, while repealing a school voucher plan that would have decimated rural schools to benefit primarily wealthy families in Omaha, because their Republican elected representatives had other ideas. It should not be too much to ask that the people we vote into office implement common-sense policies that would impact normal people and are supported by a significant majority of Nebraskans. Going forward, I hope people ask their elected representatives (and themselves) a couple of very simple questions that go to the heart of public service: Why aren’t our Republican elected officials passing the laws we Nebraskans clearly want? And if they are not going to pass the laws we want, why should we keep voting for them? Mark Porto Grand Island We live in a fast-paced, high-tech, push-button world with instant information at the touch of a finger. Some good, some not so good. The technical achievements are miraculous. Having said that, I sometimes wonder if that is drawing us away from our creator Almighty God. Maybe it’s time to access where we are and how we got here. None of the technical achievements would have been possible if God hadn’t put the elements, resources and talented men and women here to build technology. So, before we pat ourselves on the back too much, we should praise the Lord our God who created the universe and all that’s in it — including mankind — and controls and keeps it together. He gave us the Bible, his word, to guide and direct us through life and teach us the way of salvation. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” 2nd Timothy 3:16 Sin is what separates us from God, but in his endless love and mercy for us, he sent his one and only son, Jesus Christ, to be crucified on a cross, who died and was buried and rose again for the forgiveness of the sins of the world. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 All we have or ever will have comes from God whether you believe it or not. We need to turn to God, not away from him. What an awesome God he is in spite of our disobediences and rebellion. God help and have mercy on us. Don Scholz Grand Island As Thanksgiving comes to a close and Advent begins, I can’t help but reflect on how humbled I am to be a part of the Hall County community. This year Project Hunger organized, assembled and distributed over 1,300 Thanksgiving meal boxes to families the weekend before the holiday. This huge endeavor is made possible by volunteers of all ages and the following generous sponsors: The Bud & Gloria Wolbach Foundation, Woodhouse Toyota Honda, Tom Dinsdale Chevrolet Cadillac GMC, Fonner Park, Hiland Dairy Foods, Tilley Sprinklers & Landscaping, Third City Christian Church, Lone Tree Towing & Recovery, Copycat Printing & Signs, NRG Media, Brandon Built Furniture and CHI Health St. Francis. I know that people give without wanting anything in return and without needing recognition. I just want to thank them and let them know thousands in our community have been blessed because of them. I truly believe that both stomachs and souls were fed this Thanksgiving. Strictly Come Dancing fans were left in disbelief after Tess Daly's "embarrassing" remark to Chris McCausland . During Musicals Week, Chris and his dance partner Dianne Buswell performed a Quickstep to a number from Anything Goes. However, the mood shifted when Tess was heard saying to Chris and Dianne as they approached her, "can you see how happy she is with you". This comment sparked outrage among viewers, as Chris is visually impaired due to retinitis pigmentosa. Fans expressed their dismay on social media, with one commenting: "No Tess, Chris can't see how happy he made Dianne...... #strictly." Another stated: "Surely Tess didn't just ask Chris 'can you see how happy she is with you? ' #Strictly." A third viewer posted: "Tess saying to Chris 'can you see how happy she is? '....um no Tess, he can't #Strictly," while another remarked: "Tess just asked Chris if he could see how happy Diane was...." One more added: "did tess actually just say 'can you see how happy she is with you' to chris. a blind man." Another wrote: "Did um...did Tess really just ask 'can you see how happy she is with you?'" Chris has previously shared that he was "terrified" about being the first blind contestant to take part in the show. He discussed how his blindness is a hereditary condition, but he's determined to make it a manageable aspect of his life. Speaking to Big Issue, he shared: "Being blind wasn't just something that happened to me, it was hereditary. Nan was blind, my mum was losing her sight. It was always treated as just part of life, so you get on with it. That's fed into my way of viewing it.
