The City of Winnipeg and the province of Manitoba will introduce a plan to clear out encampments and move people into housing in 2025, Mayor Scott Gillingham and Premier Wab Kinew tell Global News. “We’ll be going out and providing a 30-day period to work with people in camps,” Kinew said. “The bottom line is that a tent is not a permanent solution anymore.” Kinew said service providers will move “camp by camp” and move people into housing with “wraparound” addictions and mental health supports within 30 days. Once all the people in the area are housed, they will not be able to return, though Kinew didn’t elaborate on how that would be enforced. “We make it clear no one is coming back to this area in terms of tents. We’re not going to allow tents to be set up in this area once we have people in housing and with supports people need to be successful,” he said. The plan will see all service providers working together, Kinew and Gillingham said. “The province, the city, there’s a role for the federal government, Indigenous governments, non-profit sector, private sector, all moving in the same direction in a co-ordinated effort to address homelessness ,” Gillingham said. Gillingham said the city has set up a “non-profit housing concierge” for service providers. “That person makes one call to one person and that person helps them navigate all things related to getting their housing built,” Gillingham said. Kinew says the province has acquired housing to support the plan. “When there’s legal challenges or roadblocks put up to moving people out of tents, it relies on the argument that there’s not sufficient housing units for those folks. We believe we’ve addressed that,” he said. Siloam Mission CEO Tessa Blaikie Whitecloud says the organization was consulted on the project, and plans to build 700 to 1,000 housing units within the next 10 years. She says while there are about 3,500 people experiencing homelessness in Winnipeg, there are only roughly 100 housing units in the city that rent at the level someone on employment and income assistance can afford. “This plan ... is focused on supporting folks out of encampments. The fact that it’s about bringing housing online to do that is the crucial piece,” she said. St. Boniface Street Links founder Marion Willis says it’s a “significant step forward.” “I feel a bit validated because that’s exactly what our team has been doing now for the past four or five years,” she said. “I congratulate the province on maybe having the courage to try something different.” Social Planning Council of Winnipeg executive director Kate Kehler hopes the plan also includes measures to help people on the brink of homelessness stay housed. “We have so many people who are still barely hanging on to their homes already,” she said. She also is looking forward to more details on how the plan will be funded. “When I say details, I’m actually talking about resources, as in money, in order to help everybody co-ordinate. Co-ordination does not come free. In fact, it’s not inexpensive even. But the teams already out there, they’re already doing the work. They already know how to work together. But there has to be substantial, substantial resources put towards allowing them to co-ordinate properly,” she said. Downtown Community Safety Partnership executive director Greg Burnett was part of a delegation that travelled to Houston, Texas, to observe its homelessness model. “I think the fact that we’re all talking at all levels of government again and all the organizations who are working on this is success,” he said. Kinew said he has “often tried to urge everyone that we work with to move more quickly.” “But the reality is we had to put the pieces into place together first,” he said. “In a rich country like Canada, the idea that we accept tents as a permanent solution, I think it’s time we leave that in the past.”Central Counterparty Bangladesh Limited (CCBL) has rejected concerns of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) over the lack of governance and transparency as well as operational inefficiencies at the clearing and settlement company. Instead, the CCBL alleged that its activities are being delayed due to the activities of other parties like the DSE, the company said in a detailed statement regarding these concerns last week. Farhad Ahmed, managing director and CEO of CCBL, confirmed that they issued the statement through letters to the concerned authorities, including the DSE and Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC). The DSE had written to the BSEC earlier this month, calling for an immediate halt to the procurement activities of CCBL on grounds of its poor governance. In response, CCBL said the DSE raised concerns that several of its procurement decisions were taken against the country's best interests, exposing critical technology infrastructure to external vulnerability. "But a little more detailed explanation would help us better understand the issue. All major stakeholders, including the DSE, CSE and CDBL, are using similar infrastructure, and CCBL is no exception," it added. A "CCP Formation Committee" was created at the initial stage with the DSE chairman acting as its committee chairman while the bourse's managing director and CEO was its member secretary. Additionally, several members were officials of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) and various banks. "None of these members have raised the issue of not ensuring the best interest of the country by exposing critical technology infrastructure to external vulnerability," CCBL said. Regarding the nearly three-year delay in starting operations, CCBL said a total of 535 days elapsed for the appointment of independent directors, which was a delay from the BSEC side. And after the constitution of the first CCBL board, another 302 days were lost for reasons associated with the DSE. For instance, the bourse delayed the replacement of its nominated directors for the CCBL. Additionally, it took the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) 112 days to provide an opinion on the Request for Proposals from DSE nominated directors. Regarding the DSE's observation that it has no interaction between CCBL and its stakeholders, CCBL said it holds sufficient discussions and takes written feedback from major stakeholders like the DSE, CSE and Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL). CCBL informed that till date, it has held a total of 63 board meetings and innumerable committee meetings with the participation of DSE nominated directors. "No meeting of CCBL was ever held without their participation," it said. The DSE also gave an observation that there were irregularities in sharing quarterly and annual financial statements of CCBL with the bourse. CCBL firmly rejected this stance, saying all the reports were sent. DSE Chairman Mominul Islam said the bourse is not blaming CCBL for anything, but rather is simply urging it to review all these issues. The DSE is not only the largest shareholder, but also the largest stakeholder of CCBL, which is a nationally critical infrastructure of the country, he added. Islam informed that due to its importance, the DSE Brokers Association has urged the bourse to monitor whether CCBL is taking good decisions. Furthermore, Islam said CCBL informed that it maintains the international standard in operations. "Whether it is possible to make better decisions or buy infrastructure for less, we want to go ahead with the discussion [with CCBL]. So, hopefully we will be together soon," he added. Did y’all see the most athletic thing anyone has done on an NFL field this year in Sunday night’s game between the Bucs and the Cowboys? Vita Vea brought the BOOM : #TBvsDAL on NBC/Peacock : Stream on #NFLPlus pic.twitter.com/tfwR1lOS0Z In a game that finished with a flurry of just the most incredible moments, this moment by Vea stands out. The Bucs are down two and it’s 3rd and 6 with two minutes left in the game. Because Tampa has one timeout, if Dallas gets this first down the game is essentially over. Tampa brings a simulated pressure, but Dallas beats it (a trend from Sunday night) with a quick throw to TE Jake Ferguson in the flat. Most times, this play ends in a first down and the game is over. BUT NOT ON VITA VEA’S WATCH. Vita Vea. Athlete. pic.twitter.com/l1NXc5JlbQ This is the most incredible play you’ll see in the NFL this year. Vea is listed at 347 pounds, and he’s coming from the other side of the field to make this play. I repeat. 347 POUNDS. FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FIELD. The play is even crazier in the All-22! The Bucs have seven potential blitzers lined up at or near the line of scrimmage, but with Dallas in a 3x1 formation to the left, if the Bucs are blitzing, someone is going to have to come from the other side of the field. Tampa drops both Vea and EDGE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, but JTS has to get under a potential CeeDee Lamb route from the single receiver side. This leaves Vea in the middle of the field, and this is a great call by Dallas. The quick throw to the flat gets the ball out of the QBs hands vs the pressure, and Ferguson makes the first man miss! But Vea has other plans, and decides to end this play by doing something that not even Isaac Newton believed was possible. Vea reached 14.91 miles per hour on this tackle, which is an ungodly amount considering he’s at least 100 pounds heavier than 95% of the people on the field. He hits Ferguson like a tsunami on this play, which could’ve been the play that the Bucs used to win the game. It’s another reminder that the greatest athletes in the world are the defensive and offensive linemen, because they do things that no other human should be able to do on a down to down basis. This isn’t even the first time Vea has dropped into coverage in his career! Because of all the wonky pressures Bowles will send, Vea will drop into underneath areas and do shit like this: This is insane: 350-pound NT Vita Vea *drops into coverage* and forces an Aaron Jones fumble on the 1-yard line to prevent a TD. Elite athlete. ( : @NFL ) pic.twitter.com/bNV3sCW0RV Cherish these moments from Vita Vea, one of the most unique athletes we’ll see in the NFL.

The Giants probably won’t land the No. 1 pick anymore. According to ESPN’s live tracker , the Giants’ chances of drafting first overall in 2025 plunged to a measly 5% after their 45-33 over the Colts on Sunday. Naturally, fans across social media were upset. They wanted the ticket to draft Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders or Miami’s Cam Ward — which the Giants would have gotten if they had lost out. The players, meanwhile, couldn’t care less about where they stand in the draft order. BUY GIANTS TICKETS: STUBHUB , VIVID SEATS , TICKETMASTER “We don’t care,” said cornerback Dru Phillips. “We’re trying to win a football game, man. It don’t matter. At the end of the day, you don’t go out there to lose. You’re trying to win, so forget about it. You live with what you live with. The Giants won today, so I’m in a good mood.” They sure played like they weren’t a tanking team. The Giants totaled 309 passing yards on 389 yards from scrimmage in large part thanks to a dominant performance from rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers (171 yards and two touchdowns on seven receptions). Nabers, who was spotted throwing a football with Sanders in the streets of Manhattan earlier this month, was mum when asked about the draft implications of the win. “I ain’t really got nothing to say about that,” said Nabers. The draft’s going to be the draft.” Veterans Jermaine Eluemunor and Darius Slayton offered a bit more wisdom. Sure, the better draft position is nice, but losing 13 straight games (which is what it would have required) might have been detrimental to the “culture” the Giants are trying to build. “You’d rather your team go out there and fight for every inch than lay down and just take an a**-whooping,” Eluemunor said. “Yeah, you get your pick that you wanted, but what is that player coming into? You’ve got to establish some sort of culture. “We’re trying to establish a culture that can lead into next year...I’m sure everything will still work out how this franchise needs it to work out.” “This isn’t basketball, it’s not golf, it’s not tennis,” said Slayton. “Football, you get hit. I’m not finna go out there and just let people tee off on me to tank. I’m not about to let people dive at my knees for free. At the end of the day, we’re trying to win and today showed that fight.” According to TankAThon, the Giants have the best strength of schedule among three-win teams (they face the Eagles in their final game next week), so it’s highly unlikely they’ll leapfrog teams like the Browns, Titans or Patriots, who now own the No. 1 pick, next week. Sunday’s win opens up countless questions about what the Giants now might do in the offseason. Will they trade up to No. 1? Or perhaps pivot to a bridge quarterback instead of reaching in a weaker class? Either way, the players are focused on one thing: Beating the Eagles in Week 18 — even if it means taking another nosedive down the draft board. “That’s more of an upstairs thing,” Brian Burns said. “They’ll figure out however they want to play those cards.” Thank you for relying on us to provide the journalism you can trust. The event was organized by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Memorial Foundation, led by deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak. “When Atal ji was Prime Minister, he used to invite poets to his residence, despite his busy schedule, listening to their poetry with deep appreciation and affection,” recalled Kumar Vishwas, sharing his memories of interactions with Vajpayee. The event was graced by a host of political leaders, including deputy chief ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, former Union minister Mahendra Nath Pandey, BJP state president Chaudhary Bhupendra Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma, Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, and many others. During the programme, defence minister Rajnath Singh and chief minister Yogi Adityanath presented awards to several individuals for their outstanding contributions to society. Among those honoured were Gangadhar Prasad Tiwari, Pawan Agrawal, Satish Kumar Rastogi, Ganesh Prasad Verma, Hanumant Singh, Anita Agrawal, and RP Tripathi. The recipients were awarded shawls, mementos, and bouquets in recognition of their service to the community. CM Yogi Adityanath praised Atal Bihari Vajpayee as a “symbol of good governance and inclusive politics.” Reflecting on Vajpayee’s political career, he highlighted how Vajpayee remained committed to his values and principles, working tirelessly for the nation, irrespective of political divides. “Atal ji’s leadership set high standards for future generations, and his belief that ‘principle-less politics is a noose of death’ serves as a guiding principle for all politicians,” said the CM. Adityanath said the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Foundation continues to organize major events every year. Earlier in the day, around 25,000 to 30,000 young people gathered at KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium for the Youth Kumbh. He highlighted that Vajpayee’s legacy continues to inspire future generations, both through his poetry and his statesmanship. Kumar Vishwas captivated the audience with his powerful recital, which included a moving piece about Lord Krishna’s return to Vrindavan after the Mahabharat. His lines, “Mathura chhooti, chhooti Dwarika, Indraprastha thukraoon; Bansi chhooti, Gokul chhoota, kab tak chakra uthaoon,” received thunderous applause from the audience.

They share it and I’m really proud of how they’re focused and together.” John Buggs III was the leading scorer with 15 points, going 3-of-5 from 3-point range and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Quimari Peterson led the way with 13 points, nine assists and seven rebounds while only having one turnover. Jaden Seymour finished with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. Karon Boyd, held to two points in the first half, had a stretch in the second half where he scored 10 straight for the Bucs. “I wasn’t worried about that. I was trying to stop their best player, No. 4 (LJ Thomas),” Boyd said. “Then, it was time for me to execute on offense. We’re trying to be player-led to pass up a good shot to get a great shot.” The Bucs got off to a fast start with an early 21-9 advantage. They were able to take a 35-28 lead into the half. They pushed the lead to 46-34 on a 3-point shot by Buggs III and maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way. “We tried to come out with a bunch of intensity, punch them early,” Buggs said. “We see our chemistry coming together, putting each other in position to succeed.” Thomas, a NC State transfer, led Austin Peay with 15 points. Tate McCubbin had 10 points and seven rebounds. Savage liked the contributions throughout the ETSU roster with nine Bucs playing 12 minutes or more. They included Gabe Sisk with eight points and Maki Johnson with six points on a pair of 3-point buckets. Roosevelt Wheeler totaled six points and seven rebounds in place of Davion Bradford, who turned his ankle earlier in the day. “Roosevelt Wheeler has continued to work hard,” Savage said. “I say it all the time, but he’s a character guy, a salt-of-the-earth type guy. Coach (Cory) Dixon has done a great job keeping him in the gym. He has a great attitude, doesn’t complain or sulk. He was really good around the basket, protecting the rim, rebounding and guarding. We needed everybody along the way. I thought the bench was great.” NEXT UP The Bucs have a pair of tough road games next at James Madison on Tuesday and Wichita State on Saturday. Austin Peay faces another Southern Conference team when the Govs head to Samford next Sunday.

Thanasi Kokkinakis commented on Novak Djokovic ’s fans on social media during a conversation with Denis Shapovalov ahead of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown. The Australian player claimed that a portion of Djokovic’s followers "are abusing you" when it comes to supporting the Serbian star. The 24-time Grand Slam champion is one of the most marketable athletes in the world, with a massive global fan base. His accomplishments in tennis have earned him sponsorship deals with prestigious brands like Lacoste, Asics, Head, and most recently, Qatar Airways. "You know they're Djokovic fans" Wherever Djokovic goes, he is warmly welcomed by tennis fans, and this enthusiasm has spilled over to social media, where supporters from all over the world express their admiration for him. Recently, Kokkinakis participated in a conversation with Shapovalov and Dominic Thiem to promote the UTS, and one of the topics the Australian touched on was Djokovic's fanbase. According to the 2022 Australian Open doubles champion, Djokovic’s fans are easily recognizable by their use of a crocodile emoji, which signifies their connection to Lacoste, one of Djokovic's main sponsors. Kokkinakis stated that these fans are often the ones "abusing you" online. "The tennis Twitter, if you like Djokovic, like, everyone in their little Lacoste emojis, these little crocodiles, they're there for you. You know what I mean," Kokkinakis told Shapovalov. "You know they're Djokovic fans because they got a little crocodile on their thing, and they're abusing you, dude. And they're not even Serb, but they're abusing you," he added. Later in the conversation, Kokkinakis joked about Djokovic's rivalry with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal and the different treatment Djokovic received during his early days on the Tour. "Federer was like really welcoming, especially like when you're younger. Same as Rafa. But then Novak was like, F***, this guy doesn’t lose and just drinks juices all day," Kokkinakis said.
