Is NetScout Systems, Inc. (NTCT) An Undervalued Cybersecurity Stock to Buy?Apple's plans for 2025 are already beginning to take shape, and purportedly on the horizon is a long-overdue refresh to its smart home lineup. The iPhone maker plans to introduce a new Apple TV and HomePod Mini that are "scheduled for next year," Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports . The initiative coincides with Apple's push to switch from Broadcom’s combined Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chips to its in-house solution, code-named Proxima. The latter is set to arrive "later next year." However, the exact timeline remains a big question mark for now. Whenever it comes, it should allow Apple's upcoming smart home devices to work better together. "With a homegrown wireless chip in Apple’s smart home devices, the products will work more closely together and potentially synchronize data more quickly," Gurman said. According to Bloomberg, Proxima's rollout will begin with updates to Apple’s home devices. Apple is expected to incorporate the technology in its upcoming iPhones later that same year, while Mac integration should follow sometime in 2026. Given Apple's usual September window for releasing new iPhones, it's a safe bet we'll see the revamped Apple TV and HomePod Mini in the year's first half. However, we have heard that Apple may have delayed a new HomePod launch until the third quarter of 2025. Apple's HomePod line has struggled to succeed in recent years. Still, reports suggest the revamped models could take a page from competitors like the Amazon Echo Show 15 or Google Nest Hub , which are designed less as music-listening speakers and more as controllers for all your smart home devices. This transition's timing also aligns with Apple’s broader smart home strategy for 2025, which reportedly includes plans for an AI-powered home hub device with hardware capable of taking advantage of Apple Intelligence. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has teased several Apple smart home projects in the past few months, including a wall-mounted iPad-like display and a $1,000 version with a robotic arm . According to Gurman, at least one of these devices is set to be announced in March 2025. A HomePod with a six to seven-inch OLED display could also be in the works. We'll have to wait until next year to see whether these could be enough to make our best smart home devices list. More from Tom's Guide
Squamish-based ., a startup that develops autonomous drone technology for wildfire management, announced it has $500,000 in funding from the . CICE is an independent not-for-profit corporation that funds "clean energy innovators." Other past projects it has invested in include the electrification of snow plows and funding for a company that aims to make lithium battery manufacturing cleaner, among others. In the spring, CICE put out a call to companies developing "ground-breaking solutions to better manage and mitigate the growing threat of wildfire." They awarded $3 million to six of the 74 companies that applied for the 2024 Wildfire Tech Call for Innovation, including FireSwarm Solutions. ( .) CICE claims this is Canada’s first-ever funding opportunity for wildfire technologies. The $500,000 will speed FireSwarm’s deployment of long-endurance, heavy-lift autonomous drone swarms to detect, map, and suppress wildfires. It is non-dilutive funding; this means financing that doesn’t require the business to give up any percentage of ownership of the company. “The CICE investment is fast-tracking our commercialization timeline, enabling pilot projects and integrated training exercises with B.C. communities and First Nations across B.C., which will be partially supported by the CICE grant,” said Melanie Bitner, co-founder of FireSwarm, in an email to The Squamish Chief. “As a Sea to Sky company, FireSwarm is committed to supporting wildland firefighters with tools that fill gaps in suppression, making aerial suppression safer and effective at night and in low visibility when helicopters and waterbombers can't fly,” she added. “We’ve already started building relationships with local governments, First Nations, and industry partners. Our goal is to collaborate with partners to build and pre-position a network of fleets across the region that can respond quickly in high-risk areas, enhancing wildfire management and safety.” Bitner said that scaled testing of its swarm algorithm—the drone-agnostic software that enables unmanned aircraft system technology to autonomously pick up water and perform manual drops—is well underway in Squamish. “Once we receive the ultra heavy-lift ACC Innovation Thunder Wasp drones in 2025, testing will expand to the Squamish Valley, pending approval from the necessary regulatory agencies,” she said. She added that as the company gains customers, the plan is to establish a local Operations Centre similar to the maintenance and support facilities provided by aircraft manufacturers. This centre would feature a research and development lab “to continually improve the solutions we offer our clients.” Currently, FireSwarm employs four locals, and Bitner expects this number could grow to up to 40 as its operation expands. According to the provincial government, wildfires in 2024 resulted in 51 evacuation orders, affecting more than 4,100 properties, and 112 evacuation alerts, which affected more than 12,500 properties. As of Nov. 1, the estimated cost of wildfire suppression this year alone was $621 million. According to , FireSwarm's drones will be able to carry up to 350kg and will be able to detect hotspots, execute precise water drops, and deliver real-time data to remote or nighttime operations. The company estimates its product could result in a 30% reduction in the amount of area burned by wildfire, potentially preventing up to 3,900 tons of CO2 emissions annually in high-risk regions. "This project is vital for addressing the escalating threat of wildfires with innovative, effective solutions," said Alex Deslauriers, CEO of FireSwarm Solutions Inc., in the release. "By supporting FireSwarm and our partner, Data Blanket, CICE is enabling us to revolutionize wildfire and forest management through autonomous drone swarms that detect, map, and suppress fires with precision and speed. CICE’s support is accelerating the development and commercialization of this transformative technology, which will allow us to support the wildland fire industry to protect lives, communities, and ecosystems."

MUNICH, Germany : Bayern Munich's German Cup hopes were ended with Tuesday's 1-0 loss to visitors Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16 but the team's energy showed great promise, said coach Vincent Kompany. The Bavarians suffered their first defeat of the season in the league and domestic cup and had keeper Manuel Neuer sent off in the 17th minute with a straight red card. But they still had the better chances in the first half despite being a man down with Kingsley Coman, Leon Goretzka and Konrad Laimer all spurning opportunities. Leverkusen struck against the run of play with substitute Nathan Tella's header in the 69th minute to dash Bayern's hopes. "Fact is we lost and we won't win the Cup this season. But with experience we know this was also a special performance from us," Kompany told a press conference. "If this feeling remains we will win many games but this Cup we cannot win it any more," he said. Kompany is in his first season in charge and his team tops the Bundesliga standings with a four-point advantage over second-placed Eintracht Frankfurt. Bayern have also improved in the Champions League after a rocky start this season. "It is bitter for us. We won't have a good evening," Kompany said. "But if this energy remains then we will win many more games. This team can grow further and we will get our moments."
As we count the days to the new year, talks surrounding the next-generation flagships have become more interesting, as we are hearing several leaks and rumours. While the Apple iPhone 17 series is months away from launch, people are quite excited to know about its upgrades, new features, and any major changes. Every year we see Apple putting more effort into performance and user experience with minor design changes. Now, with iPhone 17 Pro models, the trend may change as several new reports hint towards a major design overhaul for the rear as well as the front panel. Therefore, know what the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max would look like. Also read: iPhone 17 Pro: After a month with the iPhone 16 Pro, here's what I'd like to see next iPhone 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max design upgrades For the past few weeks, we have been hearing about the iPhone 17 Pro model design change with a new camera module design resembling Google Pixel 9 Pro models. While it's very uncertain and unlikely for Apple to use a horizontal camera island, however, if we are waiting for a big design change then this might be it. Recently tipster who goes by the name Majin Bu shared renders of the iPhone 17 Pro model, which showcases a new camera island, however, the cameras were placed similarly to previous generation models. It was also revealed the camera island will be made up of aluminium, whereas, the rest of the rear panel will be glass. Also read: iPhone 17 Pro tipped for a major display upgrade- Here's what we know so far Now, a Chinese publication known as My Drivers has tipped the front view of the iPhone 17 Pro model, featuring a narrower Dynamic Island. In an early leak, analyst Jeff Pu reported that Apple may bring new Face ID technology that will significantly reduce the size of Dynamic Island. Now the new tipped image confirms the same with new new-looking Dynamic Island and slimmer bezels. Therefore, these are some major design changes which will likely be introduced later in 2025. If you are curious about the new face ID technology, then Apple is expected to use metalens which are a type of optical lens that takes less space than traditional lenses. To confirm these claims we may have to wait a little longer for the launch. One more thing! We are now on WhatsApp Channels! Discovery streaming chief JB Perrette confirmed on Tuesday. The much-anticipated Season 3 of the mysterious and satirical travel anthology series jets off to Thailand this year, and after a few teases that it would be returning early in 2025 , we now finally have a release date to mark on the calendar. Perrette spoke at the Wells Fargo TMT Summit on Tuesday, December 3 and revealed the news, and he added that “Euphoria,” which is due to begin production in January, is not likely to return until 2026. What’s more, the HBO series adaptation of the “Harry Potter” books, which is currently looking for its young Harry, Ron, and Hermoine, might also not hit screens until 2027, Perrette said. In the conference, he added that the new “Game of Thrones” series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” would come in the summer, but it will actually come in the fourth quarter of 2025, IndieWire has learned. “The White Lotus” joins other Q1 HBO scripted series including the medical drama “The Pitt,” the crime novel adaptation “C. B. Strike: The Ink Black Heart,” the fourth season of “The Righteous Gemstones,” the third season of the “Sex and the City” revival “And Just Like That...,” and Season 5 of the animated “Harley Quinn.” Season 3 of “The White Lotus” stars Natasha Rothwell making her return to the show after starring in Season 1 as the masseuse Belinda, joining an otherwise entirely new cast that includes Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Nicholas Duvernay, Walton Goggins, Scott Glenn, Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and more. The series is created, written, and directed by White, as well as executive produced by White, David Bernad, and Mark Kamine. At a press event last month, HBO chief Casey Bloys teased the new season of the show with a trailer and several other series on the network’s shows on the 2025 slate. Bloys even said that White had pitched HBO on a potential Season 4 of the show, but no word if one will actually come to fruition. Bloys at the event also dispelled a rumor that “Euphoria” would not be returning at all, assuring press that production on Season 3 is still moving forward as planned in January and that the season will be eight episodes long. Some of the other scripted highlights to look out for on HBO in 2025 include the second season of “The Last of Us,” which will debut in Q2, the return of “The Rehearsal” with Nathan Fielder, a new show from “Mare of Easttown” creator Brad Ingelsby called “Task” that will arrive in Q3, “Peacemaker” Season 2 in Q3, and a Tim Robinson comedy series called “The Chair Company” also meant for Q3. The “Game of Thrones” series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is described as a smaller scale, more intimate story rather than a sweeping epic, and it follows a naive knight named Ser Duncan the Tall and his diminutive squire, Egg.
NEW YORK (AP) — Sneaking a little ahead of line to get on that plane faster? American Airlines might stop you . In an apparent effort to reduce the headaches caused by airport line cutting, American has rolled out boarding technology that alerts gate agents with an audible sound if a passenger tries to scan a ticket ahead of their assigned group. This new software won't accept a boarding pass before the group it's assigned to is called, so customers who get to the gate prematurely will be asked to go back and wait their turn. It’s a serious public health concern and is something that many people experience daily, including healthcare workers, and their patients. Long-term loneliness can have an immense impact on physical and mental health, with some studies suggesting it can increase the likelihood of early death by as much as 26 percent . It is therefore important that healthcare workers and nurses across all settings can recognise the telltale signs of loneliness , both in their patients and co-workers, and that they are equipped with the knowledge and resources to offer the best support and treatment possible. To offer guidance, the patient safety and compliance experts at Radar Healthcare have compiled a list of effective ways healthcare professionals can combat loneliness within themselves and their peers. This information has been shared with Digital Journal . Larger break rooms for enhanced communication Offering healthcare workers a larger space for enhanced communication will allow those working unsociable and long hours together the space to communicate and unwind while having breaks from work. It is also beneficial if break rooms have access to windows that can be opened in order to let fresh air and sunlight in during long and overnight shifts. Supportive and comfortable spaces As well as providing larger break rooms, it is also important for healthcare workers to have additional spaces that contain access to comfortable furniture, relaxing lighting, or views of the outside world. These comfortable environments will provide more of a relaxing zone for healthcare workers to unwind and where healthcare professionals can provide emotional support to one another. Plants Studies have indicated that biophilic design (the presence of indoor plants) can improve concentration and productivity ( by up to 15 percent ), reduce stress levels, and boost your mood. This is why healthcare professionals should implement lots of greenery into their social spaces whilst at work in order to enhance their mood and reduce stress whilst taking a break from their busy and often long working hours. Outside eating areas It is important that healthcare professionals make the most of their breaks away from work in order to recharge and relax before continuing on in a stressful environment. One way healthcare workers can combat loneliness and improve their social interactions whilst in a working environment is to spend more time socialising outdoors. Eating a meal or having a picnic outside with co-workers is a beneficial way to take in the much-needed fresh air and also remove themselves from the normal work setting. NEW YORK (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump’s lawyers formally asked a judge Monday to throw out his hush money criminal conviction , arguing that continuing the case would present unconstitutional “disruptions to the institution of the Presidency.“ In a filing made public Tuesday, Trump’s lawyers told Manhattan Judge Juan M. Merchan that anything short of immediate dismissal would undermine the transition of power, as well as the “overwhelming national mandate" granted to Trump by voters last month. They also cited President Joe Biden’s recent pardon of his son, Hunter Biden, who had been convicted of tax and gun charges . “President Biden asserted that his son was ‘selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted,’ and ‘treated differently,’" Trump’s legal team wrote. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, they claimed, had engaged in the type of political theater "that President Biden condemned.” Prosecutors will have until Dec. 9 to respond. They have said they will fight any efforts to dismiss the case but have indicated a willingness to delay the sentencing until after Trump’s second term ends in 2029. In their filing Monday, Trump's attorneys dismissed the idea of holding off sentencing until Trump is out of office as a “ridiculous suggestion.” Following Trump’s election victory last month, Merchan halted proceedings and indefinitely postponed his sentencing, previously scheduled for late November, to allow the defense and prosecution to weigh in on the future of the case. He also delayed a decision on Trump’s prior bid to dismiss the case on immunity grounds. Trump has been fighting for months to reverse his conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal a $130,000 payment to porn actor Stormy Daniels to suppress her claim that they had sex a decade earlier. He says they did not and denies any wrongdoing. The defense filing was signed by Trump lawyers Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, who represented Trump during the trial and have since been selected by the president-elect to fill senior roles at the Justice Department. Taking a swipe at Bragg and New York City, as Trump often did throughout the trial, the filing argues that dismissal would also benefit the public by giving him and “the numerous prosecutors assigned to this case a renewed opportunity to put an end to deteriorating conditions in the City and to protect its residents from violent crime.” Clearing Trump, the lawyers added, would also allow him to “to devote all of his energy to protecting the Nation.” Merchan hasn’t yet set a timetable for a decision. He could decide to uphold the verdict and proceed to sentencing, delay the case until Trump leaves office, wait until a federal appeals court rules on Trump’s parallel effort to get the case moved out of state court or choose some other option. An outright dismissal of the New York case would further lift a legal cloud that at one point carried the prospect of derailing Trump’s political future. Last week, special counsel Jack Smith told courts that he was withdrawing both federal cases against Trump — one charging him with hoarding classified documents at his Florida estate, the other with scheming to overturn the 2020 presidential election he lost — citing longstanding Justice Department policy that shields a president from indictment while in office. The hush money case was the only one of Trump’s four criminal indictments to go to trial, resulting in a historic verdict that made him the first former president to be convicted of a crime. Prosecutors had cast the payout as part of a Trump-driven effort to keep voters from hearing salacious stories about him. Trump’s then-lawyer Michael Cohen paid Daniels. Trump later reimbursed him, and Trump’s company logged the reimbursements as legal expenses — concealing what they really were, prosecutors alleged. Trump has said the payments to Cohen were properly categorized as legal expenses for legal work. A month after the verdict, the Supreme Court ruled that ex-presidents can’t be prosecuted for official acts — things they did in the course of running the country — and that prosecutors can’t cite those actions to bolster a case centered on purely personal, unofficial conduct. Trump’s lawyers cited the ruling to argue that the hush money jury got some improper evidence, such as Trump’s presidential financial disclosure form, testimony from some White House aides and social media posts made during his first term. Prosecutors disagreed and said the evidence in question was only “a sliver” of their case. If the verdict stands and the case proceeds to sentencing, Trump’s punishments would range from a fine to probation to up to four years in prison — but it’s unlikely he’d spend any time behind bars for a first-time conviction involving charges in the lowest tier of felonies. Because it is a state case, Trump would not be able to pardon himself once he returns to office.
