These feasibility trials are the latest stage of doing this.” The trials will assess presentation attack detection (PAD), as well as enrollment. A about the trials details what types of data will be processed, how long it will be retained, and what measures are in place. It also specifies the suppliers of contactless fingerprint technology for the trials as VF Worldwide Holdings Ltd, Touchless ID ( ), , , , , , , and . Sub-suppliers include , , DXS and Gambit and support services are provided by Deloitte, and DSTL. The trial is intended to assess contactless biometrics self-enrollment as part of the application process for all visitors and migrants to the UK under its incoming (ETA) system. A previous set of feasibility trials was held by the Home Office in 2021, which found to providing the requisite performance for biometrics self-enrollment than smartphone apps at that time. Since then, fingerprint biometrics for smartphones – perhaps the most common way many of us first used in a daily context – have continued to evolve, as contactless methods develop to replace or augment touch. Use cases also continue to proliferate, particularly for border control. The EU’s (EES) has prompted innovation from biometrics firms trying to tackle the challenges it presents in requiring high volumes of face and fingerprint biometric enrolment. iProov has run for remote fingerprinting, to be used by non-EU citizens who must submit fingerprints on their first crossing of Schengen borders. But remote fingerprint captures are subject to severe Al-powered fraud and . They also face a regulatory challenge, in that reading biometric fingerprint data in passports is protected by Extended Access Control (EAC) and can only be read by authorities of EU member states. “How can you turn these phones that you use for remote enrollment to read fingerprints?” asked iProov’s Head of Identity Jonas Ingelstrom during a recent . “Terminal access, or Extended Access Control, is only provided to certain hardware and we cannot give that to billions of phones, that would be very unwise.” Nigeria has also been exploring contactless biometric capture for , enlisting homegrown companies Iris Smart Technologies and Newworks to deliver the NIS Contactless Biometrics App, for use by Nigerian citizens living abroad. The bank, which was scheduled to release results Friday, says it will instead put them out in mid-December. National Bank is currently working to buy CWB in a deal that’s expected to close by the end of 2025. The takeover has shareholder and Competition Bureau approval, but still requires the go-ahead from Canada’s banking regulator and the finance minister. RAMS (5-6) at NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (4-7) When: 1:05 p.m. Sunday Where: Superdome, New Orleans TV/radio: FOX (Ch. 11)/710 AM; 93.1 FM; 1330 AM (Spanish); Sirius 382, 226 Line: Rams by 3.5 Notable injury designations Rams: OUT: TE Tyler Higbee (knee), OL KT Leveston (ankle); QUESTIONABLE: OL Alaric Jackson (foot), OLB Nick Hampton (triceps). Saints: OUT: OL Lucas Patrick (calf); QUESTIONABLE: C Erik McCoy (groin), RB Jamaal Williams (groin), DL Tanoh Kpassagnon (Achilles). What’s at stake? With just six games left in the season, the Rams can’t afford to fall two games below .500 as they try to keep their NFC West title hopes alive. Behind the Cardinals and Seahawks by a game in the divisional race, the Rams need to beat the Saints – one of three teams left on their schedule with losing records – to keep within a reasonable striking distance. Who’s better? The Rams, despite their many inconsistencies, are the better, more balanced team. The Saints, after all, fired head coach Dennis Allen midseason as injuries erased the good vibes around New Orleans following a 2-0 start to the season thanks to an explosive offense. Matchup to watch: Saints RB Alvin Kamara vs. Rams’ run defense. The Rams were gashed in a 37-20 loss last week by Saquon Barkley, rushing for an Eagles-record 255 yards as the Rams front didn’t stay gap sound, putting linebackers and defensive backs in difficult positions. They will get an immediate chance at redemption against another high-powered back in Kamara, who is still managing 4.3 yards per carry despite a litany of injuries along the New Orleans offensive line. Rams win if: They convert at least 40% of their third-down opportunities on offense. ... They average more than 4.0 yards per carry behind RB Kyren Williams. ... They can bottle up Saints tight end and utility man Taysom Hill after he exploded for 138 rushing yards in the Saints’ previous game. Fantasy sleeper: WR Tutu Atwell. The fourth-year receiver popped up in the fourth quarter of last weekend’s loss to the Eagles as a reliable option in the Rams’ hurry-up offense. He could see an uptick in usage Sunday, especially following Demarcus Robinson’s Monday arrest for suspicion of DUI . Prediction: Rams 27, Saints 13. Beat reporter’s record: 8-3 for the season; 6-5 against the spread.

Article content OTTAWA – A prominent cross-denominational Muslim NGO – known for its active rejection of extremism – has chosen Toronto for its western headquarters. Recommended Videos Speaking at a press conference on Parliament Hill this week , Imam Mohammad Tawhidi of the Global Imams Council (GIC) said the new Toronto HQ will be a means for the organization to continue their work. “This will be our hub to continue and extend our international work promoting interfaith dialog and respectful interfaith cooperation and pursuit of our shared interests – peace, international recognition, and mutual acceptance,” said Tawhidi, who is better known on social media as the Imam of Peace . “We fully and wholly reject violence, extremism and Islamism in all its forms, and we maintain that Islamism as an ideology is a misrepresentation and corruption of the true Islamic faith, which is based on peace and acceptance,” he added. The GIC is comprised of faith leaders and scholars of all Islamic sects, and actively advocates against Islamic extremism and promotes peaceful and meaningful relations with Israel. RECOMMENDED VIDEO In a statement issued in October , the GIC applauded Canada’s decision to declare Vancouver-based Samidoun as a terrorist organization. “Samidoun’s active presence in Canada, coupled with its direct ties to other groups already designated as terrorist organizations under Canada’s criminal code, poses a clear and present danger to the Muslim community and the wider public,” the statement read. “This group’s activities, which promote extremism and glorify terrorism, threaten to undermine the moral and ethical values we seek to instill in our communities.” GIC have likewise publicly condemned Hamas, this August’s bomb threats targeting Canadian Jews, and October’s funeral prayers at a few Canadian mosques honouring dead terror boss Yahya Sinwar. RECOMMENDED VIDEO Spadina-Fort York MP Kevin Vuong, who hosted this week’s press conference, said the time’s come for Canada to stop tolerating public displays of hatred. “We must stop tolerating the intolerant and giving credence to a loud and hateful minority who neither represent their ethnic community nor their faith,” he told the Toronto Sun. “In the dangerous vacuum that has been created by the Trudeau government’s inaction, civil society, religious leaders, and peace-loving Canadians are standing up – I am proud to stand with the Global Imams Council and other organizations who refuse to bow to hate.” “Together, we will fight for the peaceful and tolerant country that we all knew and love,” Vuong added. bpassifiume@postmedia.com X: @bryanpassifiume

Kam Jones scored 20 points and dished with 10 assists to lead the No. 10 Marquette Golden Eagles to a 94-62 victory over the visiting Western Carolina on Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee. Jones added six rebounds for Marquette (8-0), which is off to its best start since winning 10 straight to begin the 2011-12 campaign that ended with a Sweet 16 appearance. Ben Gold added 12 points, while Stevie Mitchell scored 10 and had three steals. David Joplin, Caedin Hamilton and Royce Parham each netted nine points for the Golden Eagles. The Catamounts (2-4) were led by Bernard Pelote's 13 points and eight boards. Jamar Livingston chipped in 10 points and CJ Hyland bundled five points with five rebounds and six assists. Marquette controlled most of the game, thanks largely to 51.4 percent shooting and 21 takeaways. The Golden Eagles built a 16-point lead in the first half before Western Carolina clawed within 37-28 with 3:55 left. Marquette responded with a 12-2 run to take a 49-30 advantage into the break, its largest lead of the game to that point. The game quickly got out of hand from there, with the Golden Eagles eventually scoring 11 straight points to push its lead to 81-45 with 7:15 remaining. Marquette finished with 26 points off of Catamount turnovers and hit 14 of 40 shots (35.0 percent) from 3-point range. The win wasn't all smooth sailing for the Golden Eagles, who lost backup guard Zaide Lowery to an apparent left knee injury. Lowery was helped off the court and into the locker room by his teammates with 1:36 left in the game. Saturday's game was a final tune-up for Marquette, which has three challenging games coming up against No. 5 Iowa State, No. 15 Wisconsin and Dayton before Big East conference play begins Dec. 18. --Field Level MediaVolatility and Risk QHSLab has a beta of -0.66, indicating that its share price is 166% less volatile than the S&P 500. The Associated PressSOUTH BEND, Ind. — Eight thoughts on Notre Dame ’s 25-man recruiting Class of 2025, which got a major boost as the early signing period began on Wednesday. 1. And just like that, the perception of Notre Dame’s recruiting class changed. Notre Dame signed four-star linebacker Madden Faraimo on Wednesday, beating out perceived favorite USC and former finalist Texas. Marcus Freeman broke his own news, casually mentioning the addition to open his news conference. Advertisement This was the kind of recruitment Notre Dame needed to win, for a linebacking corps that’s developed into one of the nation’s best and to fortify the notion that recruiting has taken steps forward. Faraimo is a top-100 prospect from Oceanside, Calif., roughly halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego. There was no organic connection to Notre Dame, only the one the program could create. Signing Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa last year helped. Mixing with alumni — football and regular — helped. A staff that includes Freeman, Al Golden and Max Bullough helped. But Faraimo had to say yes, which he wasn’t ready to do Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. Freeman told Faraimo to “choose hard,” which can be a losing pitch with the wrong prospect. When Faraimo made his decision, he told Freeman that he “chose God,” which underscores the fit and the necessity of landing him. They had other options near the top of the recruiting food chain. Notre Dame did not have other options, unless you’re counting Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, who faded from consideration late and committed to Michigan. The necessity of signing Faraimo doesn’t make it any easier to close the deal, though. It just makes getting his signature that much more rewarding for Notre Dame. “Yes, there’s some truth to the recruiting rankings, but I think more important is that we still have to trust our evaluation and our eyes in terms of bringing in the right guys to this program,” Freeman said. “Obviously you’ve heard me say this before. We can’t recruit everybody. We’ve got to recruit the guys that fit this place, but we want to get the best players in the country that do.” Advertisement 2. In the 247Sports Composite , Faraimo ranks as the No. 2 player in Notre Dame’s class, behind offensive tackle Will Black. That makes him the top-ranked defensive prospect in a haul that was outstanding in the back seven. The Irish couldn’t have done better at defensive back than the six signed, which included Dallas Golden and Mark Zackery IV. Linebacker production on the field turned into linebacker production in recruiting, and that happened at defensive back, too. There aren’t better recruiting billboards than the seasons of Xavier Watts , Christian Gray and Leonard Moore , with the freshman cornerback’s the most compelling pitch. Not every freshman will play right away. That’s fine. But showing prospects that the staff isn’t afraid to go young at least gives the recruiting office an angle to play. 3. Offensive line recruiting has been strong enough at Notre Dame during the past decade that it hardly moves the needle when the Irish land three four-star prospects and a single three-star prospect who’s 6-foot-6, 287 pounds. And Matt Augustine is the smallest of the three offensive tackle prospects signed by Notre Dame, joining Black (6-7, 292) and Owen Strebig (6-7, 292). The Irish also landed center Cam Herron from Indianapolis. The best part about the class for Notre Dame is the Irish probably don’t need it to contribute for years. That’s how healthy offensive line rooms are built: two years in the weight room and the practice field before breaking into the lineup. Notre Dame couldn’t afford to play that waiting game with Anthonie Knapp and the offense suffered for it. With back-to-back-to-back strong classes up front, the Irish shouldn’t have to go down that road again. 4. Freeman repeated what he said a year ago when asked about the plans to take a transfer quarterback this winter. After going in for Riley Leonard , Notre Dame didn’t want to spend in that market again. Freeman confirmed the Irish won’t. It’s a smart business move considering the costs associated with defensive tackles and the needs at wide receiver. It’s also good news for Notre Dame because it means CJ Carr remains on track to compete for the job this spring. Advertisement 5. Freeman keeps talking about wanting to “major in high school recruiting” and only doing a “minor” in the transfer portal. I get it. Notre Dame doesn’t work if it builds its roster like Colorado . Different approaches for different programs and different universities. But why can’t the Irish double major? Notre Dame has a higher hit rate in transfer recruiting than high school recruiting the past two cycles, which makes sense with how much available film is out there. Yes, it’s more complicated and more expensive to go heavy in the portal. It’s probably not sustainable. But the Irish didn’t leave themselves much choice at wide receiver or defensive line with this recruiting class. And the maturity of a graduate transfer maybe plays better at Notre Dame than a high school prospect, anyhow. 6. When Freeman was asked about wide receiver recruiting Wednesday, he seemed taken aback by the insinuation Notre Dame didn’t nail the position and didn’t have a good product to sell. It’s worth remembering the Irish have had one 100-yard performance by a wide receiver in the past three seasons combined. The leading receiver on this year’s team is Beaux Collins (34 catches, 427 yards, two touchdowns). Irish wideouts have nine receiving touchdowns total this year. Kris Mitchell had six by himself at FIU last season. “We’re looking for speed but also really good football players. That’s what we feel like we got with this class in wideouts,” Freeman said. “We’re extremely happy about it, and we’ll continue to recruit wideouts at a high level.” Maybe Elijah Burress, Scrap Richardson and Jerome Bettis Jr. — all outside the top 250 nationally, with Bettis the lowest-rated position player in the class at No. 853 overall and No. 125 at receiver — will exceed expectations. But while Notre Dame has earned the benefit of the doubt at defensive back in terms of development, the opposite is true at receiver. How Notre Dame treats the portal at wideout will say plenty about how the staff views the haul. Advertisement 7. The biggest sleeper in this class might be running back Nolan James Jr. The running back from DePaul Catholic in New Jersey was a longtime commitment to Boston College before the Irish decided to upgrade their running back class as Justin Thurman (Kansas) and Daniel Anderson ( Northwestern ) moved on. James is stronger than both and the kind of all-purpose back who plays bigger than 5-9, 200 pounds. He’s not Jeremiyah Love or Jadarian Price , but he’ll fit better into the Notre Dame running back room than either previous commit. 8. Notre Dame’s class ranks 12th in the 247Sports Composite as of Wednesday evening, with three top-100 signees and 14 four-stars. Overall, Notre Dame’s class has enough talent to settle the debate (assuming there still is one) that the program is recruiting better under Freeman than it did under Brian Kelly. This is another by-product of landing Faraimo at the end. Now that we have Notre Dame's final recruiting class numbers after Madden Faraimo's signing, here are ND's last 16 classes It's certainly a step back from the 2022-24 classes but the average player rating is still higher than all but two Kelly classes pic.twitter.com/WC6ZYMaFoY — Notre Dame Football Stats & Analytics (@ND_FB_Analytics) December 4, 2024 Are the Irish closing the gap on Georgia, Ohio State and Alabama? It’s hard to make that case with conviction. But Notre Dame is still improving in the recruiting department from where it was much of the past decade.
