Now, he lives in an unassuming Faversham townhouse, backs Brexit, rails against “woke” politics, and works for a Brussels-based think tank – so we sat down to hear about his life and times... “I haven't got very much time to run a cult,” says Frank Furedi in the office of his Faversham house. “Everybody that knows me knows that I'm the opposite because I'm a very private person.” Private or not, Mr Furedi has a very public presence. He is an emeritus professor of sociology at the University of Kent, though he says he never gets to Canterbury anymore as he’s busy with other things. He is in charge of a think tank in Brussels, the Mathias Corvinus Collegium, which is closely linked to the right-wing Hungarian government – and he has been labelled “the godfather of the cult”. Sleepy Faversham has been his home for about 20 years after working at the University of Kent for decades. At first he “didn't think very much” of our county, he says. “Kent was not the centre of intellectual life, and also at the time Canterbury wasn't like what it is now, it was much more quiet and sort of reserved. “But then in a funny kind of way, I began to fall in love with Kent. You know, ‘why aren't you partying on a Saturday night or something? Why are you going away for the weekend to discuss Hegel's dialectics?’ “People that have come out of it have a certain sense of themselves, and a certain sense of confidence and belief that they can make things happen. “There are many, many other people that are not named by Monbiot and all these other people, who went through the RCP. “There are a lot of people who are in a very influential position,” and hence the tendency for people to conspiracy-theorise about their influence. Munira Mirza, a former RCP member and PhD student of Furedi’s, served as a deputy to Boris Johnson when he was mayor of London, and adviser when he was PM. Claire Fox, a key member of the RCP in its day, is now Baroness Fox in the House of Lords, and was a Brexit Party MEP. Many other alumni are in academia or the media - especially Spiked Online, the effective successor of Living Marxism magazine. “I'm very proud of the fact that I've had 50 PhD students, and a large number of them I'm still in contact with,” Furedi says. “And we're still on the same page on most things, not everything. “That's the job of an academic - creating your own school. I try to influence people.” Many of that milieu, and Furedi especially, are now despised by the left as right-wing turncoats. They all supported Brexit, and the most prominent graduates are frontline soldiers in the culture war. He wrote for Spiked in 2021 an article headlined “the trans assault on free speech”, castigating “transgenderism” as “the indoctrination of young minds” driven by an “authoritarian impulse. Jaipur, Dec 28 (PTI) The BJP government of Rajasthan has decided to dissolve nine districts formed by the previous Congress dispensation, saying they were neither "practical" nor in "public interest". Three new divisions were also dissolved in a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Saturday. The state will now only have seven divisions and 41 districts, Parliamentary Affairs Minister and Law Minister Jogaram Patel said. The cabinet has decided not to retain nine newly created districts -- Anupgarh, Dudu, Gangapur City, Jaipur Rural, Jodhpur Rural, Kekri, Neem Ka Thana, Sanchore and Shahpura. Banswara, Pali and Sikar divisions were dissolved by the state cabinet. It has also decided to cancel three new districts -- Malpura, Sujangarh and Kuchaman City, which were announced just before the elections. Patel said that the government has taken the decision after considering all aspects of administration. Condemning the BJP government's decision, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot said, "The decision of the BJP government to cancel nine out of the new districts created by our government is an example of indiscretion and mere political vengeance." Hyderabad : In a major crackdown on the ganja peddling rackets in the city, Hyderabad police apprehended four ganja suppliers, two transporters and a peddler in Kachiguda, seizing 114 kg of contraband from their possession. The arrested have been identified as Balji Govind, 34, Adigarla Prakash Kumar, 23, Malasala Mohan Rao, 44, Rajana Durga Hari Prasad, 20, Kodi Ramana,24, Lalam Gangadhar, 20, and Yethula Gangadhar, 19. All are natives of Anakapalle district of Andhra Pradesh. According to the police, the racket consisted of an interconnected nexus from Andhra, was headed by Balji Govind, who had direct contacts with ganja cultivators in the Chitrakonda Forest area of the Odhisa-Andhra Pradesh Border. He, along with Prakash Kumar and Mohan Rao used to source the contraband from the cultivators at the rate of Rs 1,500 per kg and would sell it to Durga Hari Prasad for Rs 5,000 per kg. As the next node of the supply chain, Durga Hari Prasad would sell the contraband to Kodi Ramana for Rs 10,000 per kg, who had employed two men on a commission basis to transport the ganja to Hyderabad and give it to the peddlers in the city. In Hyderabad, two peddlers, identified as Balaji and Kumari, would sell the drug in the streets to retail consumers in smaller packets, earning Rs 25,000 per kg.
