Usually the job goes to a former senator who has close relationships on the Hill, or a more junior aide. But this time the role fits Vance, said Marc Short, who served as Trump’s first director of legislative affairs as well as chief of staff to Trump’s first vice president, Mike Pence, who spent more than a decade in Congress and led the former president’s transition ahead of his first term. ”JD probably has a lot of current allies in the Senate and so it makes sense to have him utilized in that capacity,” Short said. Unlike the first Trump transition, which played out before cameras at Trump Tower in New York and at the president-elect’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, this one has largely happened behind closed doors in Palm Beach, Florida. Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. find roles in the administration. Trump ended up , a powerful position that sits atop the nation’s spy agencies and acts as the president’s top intelligence adviser. Vance is expected to continue to leverage his relationships in the Senate after Trump takes office. But many Republicans there have longer relationships with Trump himself. Sen. Kevin Cramer, a North Dakota Republican, said that Trump was often the first person to call him back when he was trying to reach high-level White House officials during Trump’s first term. “He has the most active Rolodex of just about anybody I’ve ever known,” Cramer said, adding that Vance would make a good addition. “They’ll divide names up by who has the most persuasion here,” Cramer said, but added, “Whoever his liaison is will not work as hard at it as he will.” Cramer was complimentary of the Ohio senator, saying he was “pleasant” and ” interesting” to be around. ′′He doesn’t have the long relationships,” he said. “But we all like people that have done what we’ve done. Mayor Eric Adams on Tuesday defended his handling of the city’s mental health crisis in response to US Rep. Ritchie Torres’ (D-Bronx) criticism in a Monday letter that his administration is “complicit” in a recent stabbing spree that left three New Yorkers dead. Adams — during his weekly Tuesday news conference — said that he “can understand” Torres’ concerns over the Nov. 18 triple stabbing, which was allegedly committed by Ramon Rivera, a homeless man with a history of mental illness who, according to the NYPD, was released from custody last month after being arrested on burglary and assault charge. Along with slamming the mayor, Torres also suggested Hochul was complicit in his missive. But on Nov. 26, Hizzoner insisted that he has been active and outspoken on the issue of treating those with severe mental illness — pointing to his efforts to clear homeless encampments and involuntarily hospitalize individuals deemed a threat to themselves and the public. “We can’t be revisionist,” Adams said. “I don’t think there has been an elected official in the city that has been more vociferous around people with severe mental health illness.” The mayor said he has reached out to Torres and will respond to the congressman’s letter with a breakdown of everything his administration has done to address the issue of untreated severe mental illness leading to violence. However, Adams also noted that the city needs the federal government to be “a partner” in addressing the issue. “The federal government, it has a role also,” Adams said. “Everyone has a role of this national crisis of people who are dealing with this issue of severe mental health illness.” In the letter, first reported by the New York Post , Torres blasted the city Department of Correction (DOC) for releasing Rivera from custody on “good behavior” nine months into his 12-month sentence on Rikers Island on robbery charges. Adams explained Tuesday that the good behavior determination was made after Rivera allegedly assaulted a correction officer at Bellevue Hospital when he was a detainee before he was sentenced — which the mayor claimed was not taken into account when the decision to release Rivera was made. However, the mayor insisted that it would not have mattered if Rivera had been held in custody because he still required long-term mental health treatment. “Even if he stood in jail longer, let’s say he’s sitting in jail for two years, that has nothing to do with [the fact that] he needed help,” the mayor said. “So if he would have got out 90 days later and stabbed three people, it’s just as bad. The system is broken.” Torres has stepped up his criticism of both Adams and Gov. Kathy Hochul as he appears to be considering a run for mayor in next year’s Democratic primary or governor the year after. The Congress member has taken particular umbrage with the governor , insisting that she is an ineffectual and unpopular leader. Three scientists at the National Center for Medical Intelligence , part of the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency, conducted a scientific study that concluded that Covid-19 was manipulated in a laboratory in a risky research effort. But that analysis was at odds with the assessment of their parent agency , the Defense Intelligence Agency, and wasn't incorporated in the report presented to Biden . -WSJ Specifically, who decided to exclude input from the Defense Department and the FBI—the only agency to conclude with "moderate confidence" that a lab leak was the likely origin—from the August 2021 briefing to President Biden and the subsequent official federal conclusion that Covid most likely originated naturally? I mean, the FBI's investigation clearly indicated that this thing came out of a lab based on a suspected animal accident ," the former State Department official said. TV star Charlotte Crosby said she has tightened security around her home with 24-hour monitored CCTV and patrol dogs, days after masked thieves carrying a machete attempted to rob her home. The former Geordie Shore star, who is nearly eight months pregnant, thanked a security company “for all the hard work this week” after adding the protections to her home. “Trebling our security measures, worth every penny to feel safe again in my own home,” the 34-year-old said in a post to her Instagram story. “Scumbags are gunna get a big shock the next time they even step foot on any perimeter of my land.” It comes after her fiance, Jake Ankers, said on social media that a group of men carrying a machete entered their home on Thursday evening while they were in the house with their two-year-old daughter. The businessman said one of the four men “had a red balaclava on” and was carrying the weapon at the top of the stairs. Durham Constabulary were alerted at 7pm on Thursday to reports of an aggravated burglary in Houghton-le-Spring, a town in the Sunderland area. A spokeswoman for the force said: “Officers attended the area, however the suspects left the scene before their arrival. “Nobody was injured in the incident and no items are believed to have been taken.” She added that an investigation is under way and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
