Reality TV show legend Pete Wicks has broken his silence after becoming the latest celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing. The former TOWIE star and dance partner Jowita Przystal missed out on a place in the final during tonight's Results Show as they lost the dreaded dance-off for the first time. While many will miss Pete on their screens, some Strictly fans feel the Celebs Go Dating star lasted longer in the competition than he should of and accused the judges of showing favouritism. Taking to Instagram as his exit aired on BBC One, Pete seeming addressed the criticism as he told fans you "don’t always have to be the best or have the most talent" to excel. He penned: "The past 3-4 months have been nothing short of incredible. I spent 12 weeks saying my time in the show was gonna be over and each week I was wrong...until now. I couldn’t be happier with the way it ended, there is no one I would have rather been in a dance off with than Tasha. She is the most beautiful dancer, the most beautiful person inside and out and I’m so proud of her for making the final because she deserves it so much. He continued: "The only reason I stayed in the show for so long is because of you, the people. You supported me throughout and that is something I’ll never be able to forget and something I never expected. We went on this journey together, the ups and downs and with the right attitude, it’s about learning and it’s about entertaining. I tried my best from day 1 and I took the show seriously, I did what I could and I appreciate every single one of you that gave me the opportunity to keep doing that week on week. You don’t always have to be the best or have the most talent, but you should never stop trying! Thank you. "The show isn’t just what you see on a Saturday night, it’s not all jazz hands...there are an unbelievable amount of wonderful people that make it all happen. From top to bottom, the people that make the show are f**king magical. Every department is full of people who care, who create and work so hard to make Strictly what it is. Thank you all for putting up with me for so long!" Pete concluded: "Lastly but most importantly, this experience wouldn’t have been anything without Jowita. She believed in me since the first day and never stopped. She supported me, listened to me, made me laugh and cry but most of all she made me believe in myself when I didn’t think I could do it. We did everything our way, and for me that was the right way. I’m so sorry that I couldn’t get you to a final, I tried my best and you deserve to be there. The show may have ended for us but one thing won’t, you will always have a friend in me. You have become such a special person in my life and just because that won’t continue on a ballroom floor doesn’t mean it won’t continue. Unfortunately for you, you’ve gained a friend for life. You will always be my dancing gnome." Speculation over Pete 's romance with his professional dance partner Jowita , has been as much of a talking point as his performances on Strictly Come Dancing . And while the pair have done their best to avoid addressing speculation, it seems they have formed an incredibly strong bond over recent months. And Jowita made her feelings known when she spoke about Pete's dancing journey since joining the BBC show. When asked about her time on the competition the professional dancer said: "I just want to say thank you, thank you for the trust you have given me since day one. I know it wasn’t easy, but with your hard work, your commitment and your heart, which is the most amazing thing, you were winning every week. For me, every dance was special ... even the cha cha in Blackpool!" She added: "Remember on day one you said ‘I’m not going to stay long in this competition because I cannot dance’ but now I can say to you, yes you can." Meanwhile, Pete called Jowita his "ray of sunshine", as he praised her for his incredible journey. Speaking of his time on the show, Pete said: "It’s been wild. I’ve been quite honest about the fact that I didn’t necessarily want to do this (Strictly) in the first place, but everyone else wanted me to do it, and I am so, so glad that I did it. You don’t always have to be the best, but if you enjoy something then why shouldn’t you have a go at it? I’ve tried my best from day one, I said I was in for a penny, in for a pound and I’ve done it – it’s been beautiful." And when asked about his partner, he continued: "There’s a lot of things I’m going to take away from this, but one of the most special things is you (to Przystal) and I mean that, because you’re one of the most incredible people – not just as a dancer – but as a person. You’ve been a ray of sunshine for me. You’ve helped me through things in the past three months that I didn’t think I could do and you made me believe in myself and that means more to me than anything." Their affectionate exchange comes after the pair teased fans towards the end of their Argentine Tango, as it looked as though they were about to kiss. Resting in his arms with her head tilted back, the pair were seen clutching each other's face and viewers were led to believe that they were about to lock lips. And this did little to dispel romance rumours among fans. Taking to social media, one fan wrote: "Wow Pete the near kiss at the end." Another fan asked: "Did they kiss then?" A third person commented: "Did look like Pete and Jowita was going to kiss, they were that close." Meanwhile a fourth person said: "The speed in which I zoomed to check if it was a real kiss." Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government has fallen after a stunning territorial advance by opposition groups over the past few days. Assad and his family arrived in Moscow, where they were granted asylum by the Russian government, Russian state agency TASS reported Sunday. Earlier, Syrian state television announced the “triumph of the great Syrian revolution and the fall of the criminal Assad regime.” Assad decided to step down and left the country, Russia’s foreign ministry said in a statement. The toppling of the longtime ruler is sending shockwaves through the Middle East and will be a major blow to Russia and Iran, his main foreign backers. Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham, which has led the push to oust Assad and his government, entered Damascus on Saturday evening and captured the key city of Homs — about 100 miles (160 kilometers) north of the capital — around the same time. Other areas of the country, including in the north near the Turkish border and in the south, have been captured by different groups. Videos and broadcast footage showed Syrians in Damascus and elsewhere celebrating the downfall of the widely despised regime. There were also signs of jubilation in Turkey, which hosts millions of Syrian refugees. HTS’s leader, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, called on all of the Syrian government’s forces in the capital to stand down. Al-Sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammed Al-Jolani, said Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali will remain in his role until there’s an official handover. The 59-year-old, who took over from his father Hafez in 2000, made a last-ditch attempt to remain in power, including indirect diplomatic overtures to the U.S. and President-elect Donald Trump, Bloomberg reported on Saturday. In a sign of how weak his military position was, he ordered his army to fall back on Damascus, essentially ceding much of the country, including Homs, to the insurgents. Syria was reclassified as a low-income country by the World Bank in 2018, with its gross domestic product collapsing by more than half between 2010 and 2020. Its exports chiefly comprise products such as olive oil, nuts and phosphates, according to the CIA World Factbook. It also produces and traffics narcotics, the US State Department says. Trump took to social media to say that the U.S. should “have nothing to do with” the developments in Syria. “This is not our fight,” he said. “Let it play out. Do not get involved!” President Joe Biden’s administration, in power until next month, showed little inclination to intervene and has said the U.S. has nothing to do with HTS’s rebellion. The U.S. and Israel, which borders Syria, are watching warily. Assad was no ally of theirs, and Washington has severely sanctioned the Syrian government. But HTS is designated a terrorist organization by the US and other Western countries. On Sunday morning, Israel said it had deployed forces in a buffer zone near Syria to protect communities in the Golan Heights. The Israeli military added it’s not involved with what’s happening in Syria. “It should be remembered that these rebels aren’t lovers of Zion,” Danny Danon, the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, told Israel’s Channel 14. “It’s true that everyone is today welcoming the weakening of Iran — something that is certainly very significant from a regional perspective. But there is also concern that parties aligned with terrorist organizations” will use Assad’s weapons against Israel. HTS, a Sunni group, broke away from al-Qaeda in 2016 and has tried to portray itself since then as more moderate. Al-Sharaa, in an interview with CNN on Dec. 5, said non-Muslims and other minorities would be safe in Syrian areas overseen by HTS. The leader, in his early 40s, attributed the success of opposition forces to greater discipline and unity. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock in a statement warned “the country must not now fall into the hands of other radicals — whatever guise.” France called on its partners “to do their utmost to help the Syrians find the path to reconciliation and reconstruction through an inclusive political solution.” Syria’s political situation is likely to remain fluid as various groups try to bolster their positions, according to risk consulting firm RANE. “The collapse will likely trigger a contested political process among competing rebel factions to create a provisional government,” said Freddy Khoueiry, RANE’s global security analyst. “This will likely be a slow process prone to violence as foreign actors try to shape the postwar balance of power, making an unstable and fragmented Syria the most likely outcome in the near term.” Assad lost large swaths of the northwest of the country in late November as opposition fighters made a sudden advance out of Idlib province. They first captured Aleppo, one of the biggest cities in Syria, and then advanced on Hama. The rapid collapse of Syria’s government has taken Russia, Iran and the U.S. by surprise. In 2015, Russia and Iran came to Assad’s aid and helped turn the tide in Syria’s war — which began four years earlier — in his favor. This time both Tehran and Moscow, which has a naval base at the Syrian port of Tartus, have been stretched by conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine. Iran tried to drum up support for Assad among Arab states. It also said it would send Iranian troops to Syria if he requested it, but was ultimately unwilling or unable to. Moreover, Tehran’s most powerful proxy militia group, Lebanon-based Hezbollah, has been hugely degraded since September by war with Israel. Its fighters were crucial to helping Assad stay in power from early in the civil war. The Syrian conflict has left between 300,000 to 500,000 people dead and displaced more than 10 million, with many of them fleeing abroad, according to United Nations agencies and Syrian organizations. Confluent CFO Sivaram Rohan sells $641,216 in stockPatriots turn their attention to the future after being eliminated from playoff contention
NEW CHAPEL HILL — No matter the path, the road leads to the same place — a battle of the Bulldogs in the playoffs. For the fourth straight year, Chapel Hill and Kilgore will meet in the postseason — third consecutive year in the Class 4A Division I Region III football final. The eighth meeting in four seasons between the teams will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Forney’s City Bank Stadium. In the 2021 regular season meeting, Kilgore won 41-20. Chapel Hill responded with a 41-35 win in two overtimes in the third round of the playoffs on the way to reaching the state semifinals for the first time since 2011. In 2022, Chapel Hill won the regular season meeting 32-20 and then was also victorious in the regional final with a 24-21 decision on the way to another state semifinal appearance. Kilgore took a 39-13 win over Chapel Hill in the 2023 regular season. Chapel Hill bounced back with a 21-19 win over Kilgore in the regional final and eventually advancing to the Class 4A Division I championship game. Kilgore (11-2) came away with a 42-7 victory on Oct. 11 in this year’s meeting between the two programs. “We’ve been waiting the whole year to get this rematch,” senior Jonah Riordan said. “We’ve been waiting for another opportunity because we know we’re going to make the most of it. We know we’re going to have most of our dudes back now, so it should be a good game. We’re going to come out there with all of our bullets flying as hard as we can.” “I’ve been looking for this rematch ever since we lost to them in district,” senior Rickey Stewart said. “We’ve just got to go out there and play hard all four quarters.” Like a lot of this season, Chapel Hill was shorthanded in the game. The Bulldogs (10-3) were without quarterback Demetrius Brisbon, who signed with Baylor on Wednesday, for the second of six straight games. Brisbon has been back the past two weeks but hasn’t started at quarterback, though he did throw a touchdown pass in his only attempt in last week’s 28-7 win over Stafford, and he has played receiver the past two games. Stewart, who has run for 1,617 yards this season and signed with Texas on Wednesday, had just 10 carries against Kilgore in the regular season. Stewart missed the last game of the regular season after suffering an injury against Pine Tree, but he came back with 331 yards on 23 carries in the playoff opener against Huffman-Hargrave. Chapel Hill was without other players in the first meeting against Kilgore, as well, and has had moving parts for most of the season. “There have been a lot of games this year where we haven’t had all of our guys,” senior Keldrick Davis said. “We’ve went through a lot of adversity this year.” “The adversity has been an asset really,” Chapel Hill head football coach Jeff Riordan said. “Malik Gee has become a different player and a great quarterback with all of these extra reps, starting some playoff games and winning some big-time games, including three playoff games in a row. Defensive line wise, we had a lot of guys step up because of all of those injuries. The O-line is now fully intact and healthy except Derek Tovar; he broke his ankle against Huffman, so we’re missing him, but they’re getting better every week and guys are stepping up. We’ve had to play a lot of kids this year. “It’s been an asset. It’s made some guys step up and get some very valuable experience that’s helped us in this playoff run. We are just thankful to still be playing in the fourth round. A lot of people didn’t think we would be here with the adversity we went through and the struggles we had throughout the season, but these kids just came to practice and came to work every day and got better. They’re resilient, fighters and winners. It’s a good group. I love the guys we’ve got in that locker room, and I love the coaches we’ve got on this staff. And I think that’s why we always still play because it’s kind of a family deal. We love coming to practice and being around each other, so we don’t want it to end. It gives us a little bit more of an edge in trying to keep the family together.” On the other side will be a Kilgore team that has won seven straight games and that lost two games by a total of five points to Gilmer and Henderson. “To get past them, we’re going to have to give them our best shot,” Coach Riordan said. “It’s going to have to be our best game all year. We’re going to have to be solid in all three phases of the game, protect the football, make plays and execute. The district game, we were down seven guys, but we shot ourselves in the foot all night with penalties, turnovers and big plays. We’ve got to eliminate that type of stuff, because they’re a very good football team. “It’s Kilgore, they’re good every year. They’re a tradition-rich program. Coach (Clint) Fuller and his staff do an unbelievable job. They’ve got a kid (Jayden Sanders) going to Michigan. It seems like every year they have a dude, and this year is no different. They’ve got dudes everywhere. And defensively, them and Carthage are probably the best two defenses I’ve coached against in my coaching career. They are fast, and they are physical. They make the field look really small to a play caller. It’s tough to execute.” The winner of Friday’s Class 4A Division I Region III final will advance to the Class 4A Division I semifinals to face either La Vernia (10-3) or Bay City (12-1).Minister: Iran plays key role in protecting global energy securityHORO 12-19-24

Described as a “12 minute read,” it calls into question 15 separate statements that Trump made. It was the second time Trump earned the Time accolade; he also won in 2016, the first year he was elected president. Time editors said it wasn’t a particularly hard choice over other finalists Kamala Harris, Elon Musk, Benjamin Netanyahu and Kate Middleton. Time said Friday that no other Person of the Year has been fact-checked in the near-century that the magazine has annually written about the figure that has had the greatest impact on the news. But it has done the same for past interviews with the likes of Joe Biden, Netanyahu and Trump. Such corrections have been a sticking point for Trump and his team in the past, most notably when ABC News did it during his only debate with Democrat Kamala Harris this fall. There was no immediate response to a request for comment on Friday. In the piece, Time called into question statements Trump made about border security, autism and the size of a crowd at one of his rallies. When the president-elect talked about the “massive” mandate he had received from voters, Time pointed out that former President Barack Obama won more electoral votes the two times he had run for president. The magazine also questioned Trump’s claim that he would do interviews with anyone who asked during the campaign, if he had the time. The candidate rejected a request to speak to CBS’ “60 Minutes,” the magazine said. “In the final months of his campaign, Trump prioritized interviews with podcasts over mainstream media,” reporters Simmone Shah and Leslie Dickstein wrote.
