‘Superb’ gadget that’s a WFH game-changer - news.com.auMaharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is already facing pressure from the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) to sack his food and civil supplies minister Dhananjay Munde of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, accused of shielding the killer of a village official in Beed district, is now in a spot after even BJP MLAs attacked Munde openly. This led to Fadnavis’s confidant and Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule stepping in and expressing his displeasure over remarks made by BJP MLA Suresh Dhas in public, targeting NCP minister Dhananjay Munde, in connection with the murder of Massajog village sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. Dhas has been criticising Munde indirectly alleging that Valmik Karad, the main accused in the murder case has been evading arrest due to his links with food and civil supplies minister Dhananjay Munde, who assumed charge of his post very recently. Advertisement “I will ask Suresh Dhas to share any information he possesses directly with the Chief Minister rather than going public. I will tell him not to make any comments which will hamper the (murder) probe,” Bawankule told reporters in Shirdi. Advertisement However, Bawankule’s efforts failed when BJP MLA Abhimanyu Pawar, who was previously an aide to CM Fadnavis before becoming a BJP MLA from Ausa, publicly stated on Saturday that the pain caused by the murder of Massajog village sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh has been felt throughout Maharashtra, as evidenced by a protest march organised in Beed district against the murder. The silent march, held in Beed to protest the murder of Massajog village sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, was attended by politicians across party lines. BJP MLA Suresh Dhas, Sharad Pawar-led NCP MP Bajrang Sonawane, Sharad Pawar-led NCP MLA Sandeep Kshirsagar, Ajit Pawar-led NCP MLA Prakash Solanke, Sharad Pawar NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad, and BJP MLA Abhimanyu Pawar participated in the march. All the political leaders present demanded the arrest of the main accused at the earliest. Despite Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule’s statement in Shirdi earlier, BJP MLA Suresh Dhas alleged at the protest march on Saturday that Valmik Karad, who is considered close to food and civil supplies minister Dhanajay Munde, has been “terrorising the district and is working to extort ransom to deliver it to his boss”. BJP MLA Abhimanyu Pawar also attacked food and civil supplies minister Munde, saying, “Similar protest marches will be held across Maharashtra against the murder of Santosh Deshmukh. The culprits should be given the death penalty. Be it Valmik Karad or anyone else, no matter how big the accused is, he should be punished. The government should take note of this march,” BJP MLA Abhimanyu Pawar said. Sharad Pawar-led NCP MLA Sandeep Kshirsagar said that the main accused, Valmik Karad, considered close to food and civil supplies minister Dhananjay Munde, must be arrested. “Dhananjay Munde must resign until the investigation is over,” Kshirsagar said at the protest. Significantly, Prakash Solanke, who is from food and civil supplies minister Dhananjay Munde’s own Ajit Pawar-led NCP, also demanded that Munde must be removed from his ministerial post until the Santosh Deshmukh case is solved and the culprits are arrested. During a sit-down interview on on Sunday, President-elect Donald Trump told moderator Kristen Welker, in a startling moment, that she has “such potential” as a journalist. The former president had repeated that the House select committee responsible for investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol had “deleted and destroyed” a year and a half’s worth of testimony and evidence. “I think those people committed a major crime,” Trump said at one point during his wide-ranging conversation with Welker. He added that members of the committee, such as former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), who served as vice chair, When Welker pointed out to Trump that , the former president halted the conversation to take a direct shot at the host. “You know, you have such potential,” he said to Welker. “If you could be just nonbiased — you hurt yourself so badly.” (Watch the full interview .) Trump has a history of . In July, he accused ABC News senior congressional correspondent Rachel Scott, who is Black, of asking a question in a “horrible manner” during a at the National Association of Black Journalists convention. Trump has also at Welker, who is also Black. He repeatedly criticized her, calling her days before she moderated his final presidential debate with Joe Biden in 2020. Welker ― an who previously served as NBC News’ chief White House correspondent ― is the first Black journalist and the ever to host “Meet the Press.” There were plenty of takeaways from Welker’s sit-down with Trump, his first network TV interview since his reelection last month. But etiquette experts think there’s a lot to be said in particular about his choice to discuss Welker’s “potential.” , founder and CEO of the From the Inside-Out School of Etiquette, said that she believes Trump’s comment was a “blatant tactic” meant to “devalue” Welker in order to gain control and power in the interview. “Over the years, many have witnessed Mr. Trump’s strategies of power play,” she told HuffPost. “This was indeed a tactic.” Vernon-Thompsonalsonoted that Trump has of speaking to women in a way that “may seem misogynistic,” and that this exchange with Welker was no different. Welker, 48, is “a seasoned journalist, well-established, and very talented in the industry,” Vernon-Thompson said, adding that people may sometimes try to instill doubt in others in order to “control the conversation and environment.” “That was Mr. Trump’s attempt,” she said. “Clearly, it did not work because he was indeed speaking with someone who holds her own.” , an etiquette consultant who specializes in social and professional conduct, said that Trump’s comment to Welker was strategic in two ways: It was an attempt to regain power, and an attempt to cause a distraction. “It was a backhanded ‘compliment’ designed to distract from the real topic and divert the conversational focus away to an irrelevant dialogue undermining the journalist’s credentials,” Smith, the president and owner of Mannersmith, told HuffPost. She also said it’s important to analyze power dynamics in any exchange, and that Trump’s remark to Welker ― given that he is a white, cisgendered Christian male in America, where all of those identifiers carry systemic privilege ― could be seen as a “dog-whistle telling the target, and anyone listening, that they are not conforming to their designated role.” Smith explained that one’s tone of voice, and the context in which the comment is said, is key. A mentor speaking to a mentee in a feedback situation can be very “positive,” she said ― while pointing out that Trump’s comment to Welker, a “seasoned, award-winning professional,” decidedly did not occur in such a context. Vernon-Thompson thinks people should be “very cautious” when using the word “potential” in that manner in professional environments. To tell a woman she has “potential” in the workplace could be “patronizing” or potentially show a “lack of respect,” she said. “There is a time and place for that,” Vernon-Thompson said. “Publicly is definitely not the place. In the midst of a debate or an aggressive discussion is most certainly not appropriate.” She pointed out that speaking of a person’s “potential” may be appropriate in conversations between a superior and their subordinate, when it’s made “in kindness with the intent to motivate and show them that their superior sees and believes in their potential and ability.” For starters, Smith said, you should realize that the person who made the comment has “shown you their cards.” “They feel threatened by you in some way. It is a ‘tell,’” she said, recommending that you document your exchanges with that person. “Include others when meeting with this person,” she said. “If it is not your manager, loop your manager into the situation. If it is your manager, speak with human resources.” Vernon-Thompson recommends that you maintain your “composure, confidence and self-respect.” (Not unlike Welker herself, who continued talking with Trump about the Jan. 6 committee without missing a beat after his remark about her “potential.”) “Maintain your posture. Keep [your] head up. Maintain eye contact,” Vernon-Thompson said. “Immediately identify the attempt mentally and move forward with strength and certainty.” “Start strong, end strong,” she added. “Because you are good enough.” Related...

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has announced a countrywide public awakening campaign to free Hindu temples from control of government. The Hindu outfit has demanded that the state governments should detach themselves from the control, management and daily works of temples as it is discriminatory towards the Hindu community. The VHP will call for liberation of temples from government control from Vijayawada on January 5. On Thursday, the Hindu right wing organisaiton announced a nationwide public awakening campaign against government’s control over Hindu temples, citing autonomy of mosques and churches. The call for this nationwide campaign will be given at 'Haindava Shankhaaraavam', a huge gathering to be organized in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada. VHP demanded that the work of management and control of temples should now be handed over to the devoted and capable people of the Hindu society. The Hindu outfit claimed that it has formed a think tank comprising of Supreme Court lawyers, retired Chief Justices, revered leading figures of the Sant Samaj and VHP volunteers, which has prepared a draft after studying the protocols of management of temples and to resolve any kind of dispute related to it. VHP’s roadmap for the transformation of temple management from government’s purview to the society consists of constituting a ‘dharmic council’ at state levels with people holding constitutional posts as its members. These state level councils will also have revered figures of the Hindu community, retired judges and retired government officials and experts in Hindu scriptures and rituals. These state councils would elect the district level councils which in turn will choose the trustees of the local temples. A process will also be decided to resolve disputes. Milind Parande, VHP’s organizing general secretary said, “It is unfortunate that after the country's independence, the temples should have been handed over to the Hindu society but many state governments ignored Articles 12, 25 and 26 of the Constitution. When no mosque or church is under their control, then why this discrimination against Hindus? Despite clear indications by many High Courts and the Supreme Court, the governments kept occupying and subjugating the management and properties of temples.” However, VHP has urged that before handing over the temples to the Hindu society, non-Hindus employed in temples should be removed and only practising Hindus should be employed in the worship, offerings and service of God. It has also demanded that no politician should be appointed on the trust boards and management of temples. It also demanded that the income of temples should be spent only for the propagation of Hindu religion and service to the society and not on government works. Last week, VHP members met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and handed over a draft of such a proposed law to him for his consideration and are also planning to have similar discussions with other state governments and various political parties. In September, VHP had submitted a memorandum to all the Governors and requested their governments to withdraw from the management of temples. In conclusion, the 2024 E-commerce Intellectual Property Protection Exchange and Seminar served as a catalyst for advancing the conversation on IP protection in the digital age. A childhood friend of the Quebec man killed in a Florida boat explosion Monday said one of the victim's sisters was among the other six passengers injured in the blast. Thi Cam Nhung Lê said 41-year-old Sebastien Gauthier was celebrating the holidays with his family when the explosion occurred in Fort Lauderdale. Lê said Gauthier’s older sister was also on the boat when it erupted into flames, and she was taken to a hospital. “It’s unimaginable, incomprehensible,” Lê said Saturday, adding that Gauthier’s family and mutual friends informed her about his death. Lê, 40, said she first met Gauthier in her early adolescence and they grew up together in Quebec City. She remembers him as a globetrotter who always had a smile on his face. “He’s still my best friend. It’s always him I call if I need something, but he’s no longer with us,” she said. The last time the two friends saw each other face-to-face was about two years ago, Lê said, but she last messaged Gauthier on social media in the days before Monday's explosion. And on Jan. 1, her birthday, she would have expected a call from him, just like every year. “I’m shocked, surprised, and feeling a little bit of regret," she said. "You regret not having seen him more. I spent yesterday crying. You can’t believe your friend disappears from one day to the next." Earlier this week, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed that Gauthier died of his injuries in Broward County. The FWC said its preliminary investigation in Fort Lauderdale showed a 37-foot vessel exploded after its engines were started, injuring all seven passengers on board. Video posted on social media Monday showed the vessel engulfed in flames, with a thick column of black smoke billowing into the sky. However, Florida authorities have not provided The Canadian Press with more information about the investigation. Searching for an explanation has also left Lê angry. As she mourns the loss of her longtime friend, she said she’s still waiting for answers about what led to his unexpected death. This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 28, 2024.The match, which took place in a packed stadium buzzing with anticipation, showcased the stark contrast between the seasoned veteran and the youthful challenger. Hao Shuai, a name synonymous with excellence and dominance in the world of table tennis, displayed his trademark precision and strategic prowess from the very first serve.
