Throughout his first term in the White House and during his campaign to return, Trump has spun out countless provocative, antagonizing and mocking statements. There were his belittling nicknames for political opponents, his impressions of other political figures and the plentiful memes he shared on social media. Now that’s to the Oval Office, Trump is back at it, and his trolling is attracting more attention — and eyerolls. On Sunday, Trump turned a photo of himself seated near a smiling first lady Jill Biden at the Notre Dame ceremony for his new perfume and cologne line, with the tag line, “A fragrance your enemies can’t resist!” The first lady’s office declined to comment. When Trudeau hastily flew to Florida to meet with Trump last month over the president-elect’s on all Canadian products entering the U.S., that Canada become the 51st U.S. state. The Canadians passed off the comment as a joke, but Trump has continued to play up the dig, including in on his social media network referring to the prime minister as “Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada.” After decades as an entertainer and tabloid fixture, Trump has a flair for the provocative that is aimed at attracting attention and, in his most recent incarnation as a politician, mobilizing fans. East Tennessee State’s rebuilding plan is ahead of the normal timeline according to football coach Tre Lamb. The Bucs finished 7-5 surpassing the win total of the last two seasons combined. After back-to-back 3-8 seasons, Lamb reflected on the progress the program made in his first year as head coach. “I’m really proud of what we accomplished this season. Seven wins was a big deal for us,” Lamb said. “Going into the season, we would have all taken 7-5. We could have been better in certain situations, but we won some close games and lost some close games. Inheriting what we inherited, I’m glad where we’re at.” Lamb believes he knows what the Bucs need to become a championship team. He pointed out if two onside kicks against North Dakota State and Mercer had gone their way, the Bucs were looking at a 9-3 season and a FCS playoff berth. He saw the biggest area of growth as being competitive each time ETSU took the field. “The thing I’m most proud of is the way we competed,” he said. “There were some games like 58-7 (a 2023 loss to Western Carolina), some miserable Saturdays for the guys in the locker room, the coaching staff and fans. There wasn’t one game this year where we didn’t feel we could win. Even the Appalachian game was 17-10 into the third quarter.” Comparing it to his previous four seasons at Gardner-Webb, Lamb said in the first year, the team learned to lose close. The second year, they won close games. The third year, they won big and the fourth year, they were Big South-OVC Co-Champions. “We’ve skipped that first step. Did we lose some close games? Yes, but we also won some close games,” Lamb said. “We’re in the phase where 7-5 shows up 9-3 or 10-2 next year where we beat some teams handily.” Lamb was pleased to see his team grind out a 16-9 win at VMI to end the season. It was a clean game for the Bucs with just one penalty and one turnover. Freshman Baylor Hayes got his first start at quarterback and did what Lamb asked him to do. “That was the thought process going with the young quarterback,” Lamb said. “I knew it wasn’t going to be a 35-31 ballgame. You look at the film and every game they’ve played up there, it’s low scoring and tough to win. I thought he managed the game well. One penalty, one turnover, if we’d had that in half our games, we’d be sitting here 10-2. You look and we’re minus 13 in turnover margin.” Hayes was solid, not spectacular, completing 15 of 25 passes for 119 yards. The coach graded the young signal-caller well for the performance, as he commented a lot of things don’t show up statistically. “We didn’t have any pre-snap penalties and he got us in and out of checks well. That’s some of the things the fans don’t really see,” Lamb said. “At Furman, we check a run into a blitz and we have to punt that drive. Those plays don’t show up on the stat sheet, but that’s what playing quarterback is about. When you’re recruiting or evaluating that position, there is so much more than the tangibles.” The quarterback position is the biggest question mark heading into next season. Lamb has talked to Jaylen King, who started the first nine games for the Bucs, about redshirting to give him time to develop his skills. The coach said there’s about a 50/50 chance that King enters the transfer portal. The coach expects Hayes and former Tennessee High quarterback Steven Johnson to return next season. They’re also looking to bring in a transfer to compete for the starting job. Leading receiver A.J. Johnson announced before the VMI game that he was entering the transfer portal. Johnson, who had 40 catches for 662 yards and six touchdowns, was one of several players who followed Lamb from Gardner-Webb. “It was a mutual decision. I felt some things were leaking into the program affecting the team and he felt different about it,” Lamb said. “Sometimes, you’ve got to cut bait. A.J. decided to go in the portal and I felt that was best for the team. I’ve done a lot for A.J. We took a chance on him at Gardner-Webb, and A.J. has done a lot for me. Sometimes, it’s best for both to part ways. I love him to death and wish him the best.” After bringing in 50 new players in what Lamb described as a hectic January and February, he’s looking more at 18-20 new players this offseason. Of course, that hinges on the coaches being able to retain the existing roster. Lamb said conversations with players over the past two days indicted that 95 percent of them were happy at ETSU. “We’re going to compensate some of our best players. That’s the way it’s working across the country,” Lamb said. “But, these guys aren’t necessarily staying for money. They’re staying because they like where they’re at, they like the staff and how we played this year. All that matters more than the money.”I'm A Celebrity... I never thought I would make it this far," while Danny added: "It feels amazing, I didn't expect this at all." Meanwhile, Coleen got emotional in the Bush Telegraph, as she said: "Knowing that I have made it to the final makes me proud." "I'm a proud mum, I'm a proud wife, I'm a proud daughter, it's very rare that I'm proud of myself, so it means a lot. It's very rare that I put myself first, so yeah these are happy tears!" After weeks of living in the jungle, the winner was finally announced as Danny. Reverend Richard came in third place while Coleen came in second. McFly star Danny was emotional as he was announced the winner and said: "It feels amazing, I can't even talk." He went on to thank fans for their support and joked it felt nice to 'be liked'. Speaking about the toughest thing about camp, Richard said: "The toughest one for me is a toss-up between having cockroaches in your face and mouth but also the fish bowl of gunk. I don't know how I did it that was really really horrible." He went on to discuss his lasting memory of his experience and added: "The sheer joy of being with other people, testing yourself beyond your normal limit and just being in the jungle." The last two finalists, Danny and Coleen, also spoke about their three-week experience. Danny said about his time: "Emotional. It's insane. I've learned so much about myself and that's because of my campmates." Coleen said it was a 'strange experience' and said of her time in the jungle: "It gave me time to think about me, my strengths and weaknesses." She added it was 'her turn' for her kids to be proud of her after they spent so long proud of their footballer dad. To celebrate their final night in camp, the final three were given a spectacular feast to celebrate their time in the jungle. The stars got to choose their favourite meals for the last supper in camp. McFly singer Danny picked a starter of mozzarella sticks with sweet chilli sauce, a buttermilk chicken burger and chips for his main course, fresh cream profiteroles with Nutella sauce for dessert and a well-deserved cold glass of beer for his drink. Coleen picked a bruschetta starter, spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread for her main and the same dessert as Danny's. She added a French pale Provence rose for her choice of drink. Meanwhile, fan-favourite Reverend Richard tucked into a prawn cocktail with a salad, cottage pie with peas, carrots and gravy for his main and a fruit cake for dessert. Of course, he couldn't forget a Chablis Grand Cru for his drink. Dancing On Ice star Oti just missed out on the final, leaving camp on Saturday night. During her exit interview, the former Strictly Come Dancing professional told presenters Ant and Dec that she feels "mentally and spiritually stronger" for being on the show. Speaking about what she most enjoyed, she said: "The conversations, getting to know new people, getting personal, opening up. I think it's also personal battles that you go over and get over, and all of that. You just come out as a stronger, different person." Speaking about what she will take away from her time in the jungle, the 34-year-old added: "I think I've learned to be happy with who I am, and that group kind of let me be all different versions loud, crazy, calm, frustrated. They allowed me to be who I am, and I've just felt mentally and spiritually stronger." LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Jaylon Johnson wasn’t all that interested in discussing any bright spots or reasons to have hope for the Chicago Bears. The star cornerback made his feelings clear. “I’ve been in slumps four, five years in a row now,” Johnson said Monday. “So, I mean at the end of the day, I don’t look for, ‘OK, what is going to be better in the future?’ ... It will be better when it’s better. So, right now, it’s not better. That’s all I can go off of.” The Bears (4-7) are last in the NFC North and have five straight losses after falling 30-27 to Minnesota in overtime. They wiped out an 11-point deficit in the final 22 seconds of regulation, only to come up short again when the Vikings’ Parker Romo kicked a 29-yard field goal. It was the third game during this skid that came down to the final play. The Bears also lost on a Hail Mary at Washington in Week 8 and had a game-ending field goal attempt by Cairo Santos blocked by Green Bay in Week 11. Players have openly questioned some of the coaching decisions in recent weeks. Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron got fired before the game against Green Bay. And coach Matt Eberflus’ game management came under more scrutiny against Minnesota. Eberflus said he didn’t do a good enough job communicating on the previous play that they would go for it on fourth down. That led to a chaotic sequence in which Santos and long snapper Scott Daly ran onto the field, only to get waved off by a lineman. Quarterback Caleb Williams had to rush to get everyone lined up properly in order to avoid a delay of game. He wound up barking out the wrong play because he misheard the call from offensive coordinator Thomas Brown and threw an incomplete pass. Williams has clearly looked more comfortable in the two games since Brown replaced the fired Shane Waldron as offensive coordinator. The No. 1 draft pick followed up a solid performance against Green Bay by throwing for 340 yards and two touchdowns. It was his fourth straight turnover-free game and fifth in a row without an interception. What needs help Field goal protection. One week after his game-ending 46-yard field goal attempt against Green Bay got blocked, Santos had a 48-yarder rejected on his first try against Minnesota. It happened from the same area, in the middle of the line, when the Vikings’ Jerry Tillery knocked down the kick. “I just think it’s technique,” Eberflus said. “It’s getting your foot down, bracing up there, staying lower. ... We just have to do a better job there with that.” It was the third blocked field goal for Santos this year, the most for Chicago in a single season since it also had three blocked in 2012. He had a 43-yard try blocked in a win over Jacksonville on Oct. 13. Stock up Moore. The Bears have done a better job getting Moore involved under Brown. Moore caught seven passes for a season-high 106 yards and a touchdown against Minnesota. That gave him 14 receptions for 168 yards the past two games, compared to 13 for 104 yards over the previous four. Johnson’s 27-yard catch down the middle set up Santos’ tying field goal at the end of regulation. But it’s not just deep shots. The Bears are finding ways to get the ball in his hands, allowing him to turn short passes into bigger gains. He also had a 13-yard run. Stock down RB D’Andre Swift. After a string of solid outings, Swift had just 30 yards on 13 carries. To be fair, he has been dealing with a groin issue, and he was going against the NFL’s No. 1 run defense. Injuries The Bears reported no injuries during the game. Key number 5-18 — The Bears’ record in one-possession games in nearly three seasons under Eberflus, including a 2-5 mark this year. They are 14-31 overall during Eberflus’ tenure. Next steps The schedule doesn’t get any easier, with a Thanksgiving matchup at NFC North leader Detroit. Forgive me for being negative. Hey, I’m from Jersey, we’re all a little negative sometimes. Maybe it’s expectations. Maybe it’s because I’m a fan of Springsteen. But I thought the impression of him on “SNL” this weekend left a lot to be desired. In a red-carpet sketch where Buzzfeed has a reporter stopping first Timothée Chalamet, then Bob Dylan (not the real ones), Bruce Springsteen next appears. He was played by “SNL” writer and cast member Andrew Dismukes. Look, they can’t all be winners, but would we even have known who this was supposed to be if not told? Looks-wise, it could have been Gov. Gavin Newsom of California or any 1980s TV game show host. Voice-wise, it’s like someone told Andrew to just growl here and there and make sure it was inconsistent. Take a look for yourself, and you be the judge. Am I being too harsh? It felt like a very phoned-in sketch all around. Dismukes knows what he’s doing. He’s been with “SNL” since 2017, first as a writer, later as both a featured player and a repertory player. Sometimes “SNL” impressions are so spot on they’re amazing, like Maya Rudolph’s Kamala Harris. Other times, they rely on the lines, makeup, and wardrobe to pull it off. This was one of those times. I just don’t think it worked. Was a 75-year-old singer too tough for a 29-year-old actor to pull off? Even if not familiar enough, it would take a three-minute Google search to offer dozens of interviews to get his mannerisms down better. For us Jersey folks, I guess it is what it is. The ruling by U.S. Magistrate Judge S. Kato Crews in Denver will allow the player, who has played all season, to compete in the Mountain West Conference women's championship opening this week in Las Vegas. The ruling comes in a lawsuit filed by nine current players against the Mountain West Conference challenging the league's policies for allowing transgender players to participate. The players argued that letting her compete was a safety risk and unfair. While some media have reported those and other details, neither San Jose State nor the forfeiting teams have confirmed the school has a trans woman volleyball player. The Associated Press is withholding the player's name because she has not commented publicly on her gender identity. School officials also have declined an interview request with the player. Crews' ruling referred to the athlete as an "alleged transgender" player and noted that no defendant disputed that the San Jose State roster includes a transgender woman player. San Jose State will "continue to support its student-athletes and reject discrimination in all forms," the university said in a statement, confirming that all its student-athletes are eligible to participate under NCAA and conference rules. "We are gratified that the Court rejected an eleventh-hour attempt to change those rules. Our team looks forward to competing in the Mountain West volleyball tournament this week." The conference did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment. The players filed a notice for emergency appeal with the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Crews said the players who filed the complaint could have sought relief much earlier, noting the individual universities had acknowledged that not playing their games against San Jose State this season would result in a loss in league standings. He also refused a request to re-seed the tournament without the forfeited losses. The judge said injunctions are meant to preserve the status quo. The conference policy regarding forfeiting for refusing to play against a team with a transgender player had been in effect since 2022 and the San Jose State player has been on the roster since 2022 -– making that the status quo. The player competed at the college level three previous seasons, including two for San Jose State, drawing little attention. This season's awareness of her reported identity led to an uproar among some players, pundits, parents and politicians in a major election year. Crews' ruling also said injunctions are meant to prevent harm, but in this case, he argued, the harm has already occurred. The games have been forfeited, the tournament has been seeded, the teams have made travel plans and the participants have confirmed they're playing. The tournament starts Wednesday and continues Friday and Saturday. Colorado State is seeded first and San Jose State, second. The teams split their regular-season matches and both get byes into Friday's semifinals. San Jose State will play the winner of Wednesday's match between Utah State and Boise State — teams that both forfeited matches to SJSU during the regular season. Boise State associate athletic director Chris Kutz declined to comment on whether the Broncos would play SJSU if they won their first-round tournament game. Utah State officials did not immediately respond to emails seeking comment. The conference tournament winner gets an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. San Jose State coach Todd Kress, whose team has not competed in the national tournament since 2001, has said his team has been getting "messages of hate" and that has taken a toll on his players. Several teams refused to play against San Jose State during the season, earning losses in the official conference standings. Boise State and Wyoming each had two forfeits while Utah State and Nevada both had one. Southern Utah, a member of the Western Athletic Conference, was first to cancel against San Jose State this year. Nevada's players stated they "refuse to participate in any match that advances injustice against female athletes," without elaborating. Nevada did not qualify for the conference tournament. The nine current players and others now suing the Mountain West Conference, the California State University Board of Trustees and others include San Jose State senior setter and co-captain Brooke Slusser. The teammate Slusser says is transgender hits the volleyball with more force than others on the team, raising fear during practices of suffering concussions from a head hit, the complaint says. The Independent Council on Women's Sports is funding a separate lawsuit against the NCAA for allowing transgender women to compete in women's sports. Both lawsuits claim the landmark 1972 federal antidiscrimination law known as Title IX prohibits transgender women in women's sports. Title IX prohibits sexual discrimination in federally funded education; Slusser is a plaintiff in both lawsuits. Several circuit courts have used a U.S. Supreme Court ruling to conclude that discriminating against someone based on their transgender status or sexual orientation is sex-based discrimination, Crews wrote. That means case law does not prove the "likelihood of success" needed to grant an injunction. An NCAA policy that subjects transgender participation to the rules of sports governing bodies took effect this academic year. That was my priority,” Murray continued. “I wasn’t really worried about my recovery.” Murray's mother has recovered well, he said, while he is “healthy and ready to help this team.” “I’m ready to hoop. Play for my mother — she’s going to be watching," Murray said. “I’m ready to compete, bring that winning spirit.” The Pelicans (4-14) certainly could use the help, having lost 14 of 16 games since opening the season with a pair of victories.
