On the final day of the 12-day-long "Shipmas" event, OpenAI introduced its latest reasoning models, named o3 and o3-mini. These models were unveiled as a preview, with no immediate plans for public release. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that the o3-mini model is expected to launch by the end of January, with the full version of o3 to follow at a later date. Altman believes these advanced large language models (LLMs) have the potential to outperform existing ones, attracting both new users and investors. In preparation for the launch, OpenAI has invited researchers to apply for early testing of these models before they are publicly available. The application window for external researchers will remain open until January 10. Notably, OpenAI had previously released o1, initially known as Project Strawberry, in September of this year. Interestingly, the company appears to be skipping the o2 designation entirely, reportedly to avoid a potential copyright conflict with the UK-based telecommunications company O2. you all did incredible work here! https://t.co/vxHBwbvv2Z — Sam Altman (@sama) December 21, 2024 ALSO READ | Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses Update: Live AI, Live Translation And Shazam Showcased By Zuckerberg Earlier Finally Arrive OpenAI o3 Outperforms Its Predecessor The o3 model has reportedly set new benchmarks, outperforming its predecessors in multiple domains. It achieved a 22.8 per cent improvement in SWE-Bench verified coding tests and even outperformed OpenAI’s Chief Scientist in competitive programming challenges. Additionally, the model excelled in AIME 2024, one of the most challenging math competitions, scoring an impressive 87.7 per cent on expert-level science problems. When tackling the most complex math and reasoning challenges, o3 solved 25.02 per cent of the problems—far surpassing other models, which struggled to exceed a 2 per cent success rate. While the o1 models demonstrated strong reasoning capabilities and handled intricate problems effectively, the upcoming o3 and o3-mini models promise to deliver even greater performance. At present, these new models are undergoing rigorous internal safety testing.

Another misconception about "Trump 2.0" is the presumption that these figures solely rely on populist appeals to garner support. Professor Ouyang Hui suggests that while populism may play a role in their political strategies, it is essential to examine the broader socio-political context in which these leaders operate. Factors such as economic conditions, social grievances, and institutional frameworks greatly influence the rise of "Trump 2.0" figures, beyond simplistic populist narratives.

Going forward, it is crucial for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and SMEs themselves to continue working together to sustain this positive momentum and further enhance the development of small and medium-sized enterprises in China. By fostering a supportive ecosystem, encouraging innovation, and investing in skills development, SMEs can continue to play a key role in driving economic growth and job creation.St. Louis Blues (9-12-1, in the Central Division) vs. New York Rangers (12-6-1, in the Metropolitan Division) New York; Monday, 7 p.m. EST BOTTOM LINE: The New York Rangers host the St. Louis Blues after Artemi Panarin scored two goals in the Rangers' 6-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers. In another at-times ugly, grind-it-out game, the Minnesota Vikings once again found a way to come out on top, beating the Chicago Bears 30-27 in overtime on Sunday at Soldier Field. Justin Jefferson had just two catches for 27 yards, drawing double-teams all day, although he also coaxed two pass interference calls totaling 45 yards. However, the offense still was fine moving the ball. Jordan Addison had what is easily his best game of the season so far, tallying a career-high eight catches and 161 yards and a touchdown, and T.J. Hockenson added 115 yards on seven catches. Aaron Jones contributed 106 yards and a score on the ground plus three catches for 23 yards, and Sam Darnold finished 22-of-34 for 330 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Follow Inside the Vikings on Facebook Still, the Vikings had more missed opportunities on Sunday. The team had six trips to the red zone but fumbled one away and had to settle for field goals on two others. Minnesota also had three three-and-outs and a turnover on downs, in which the Vikings went for it on 4th-and-1 at Chicago's 36-yard line but went five wide receivers out wide and threw incomplete, failing to turn their lead into a three-score margin. On the ensuing drive, the Bears went 64 yards in 10 plays to cut the lead to eight. Defensively, it was a mixed bag for the Vikings. The unit forced four three-and-outs, a turnover on downs and blocked a field goal, but Chicago's offense also moved the ball well. Caleb Williams finished 30-of-44 for 330 yards and two touchdowns, ran for 32 more yards and diced the secondary up at times. Williams and the Bears had six passing plays of at least 15 yards against the Vikings. Then the Bears scored 11 points in 22 seconds. First, it was a last-minute touchdown and two-point conversion, and then a Vikings gaffe gave Chicago another chance. An onside kick went off tight end Johnny Mundt's foot as he blocked, allowing the Bears to recover. They then picked up 27 yards on one play to set up a game-tying 48-yard field goal, which Cairo Santos nailed to send the game to overtime. In the extra frame, Williams took a 12-yard sack and a delay of game, forcing Chicago to punt. The Vikings' drive started poorly, too, with Darnold taking a sack. However, from there, the team marched 75 yards over nine plays, capped off by a John Parker Romo game-winning field goal from 29 yards out. It wasn't pretty but the Vikings are 9-2 and remain just a game back of Detroit. Daniel Bartel-Imagn Images

"We had originally hoped to pass on the mantle to a new owner, but a suitable candidate has unfortunately, not been forthcoming (although do read to the end!). "It has been a joyous ride (for Martin, all of his adult life), and we have had some great staff and some great customers (a crazy number who have been here pretty much from the start, and stuck with us throughout). "So it is a bitter sweet event to be closing the doors. "The mail-order/standing order service will be winding up at the end of the year, and final parcels will be going out no later than early Jan 25. "We are not quite finished yet, and we will be going out with an upbeat bang! So if you can make it into the shop over the next two months, there will be some once-in-a-lifetime deals to be had. "The back room back issue stores are being opened up, and the shop is bursting to the seams with comic goodness, ranging all the way back to 1940's Golden Age, through classic Silver and Bronze, and right up to modern day books . "We have always offered up a huge range, but for the final run, there is more on show and available than ever before! "Fine tune those wants lists, raid the piggy bank, and head on in and fill your boots . UI Movie Leaked Online: Sci-Fi Thriller Surfaces On TamilRockers, Movierulez & Other Piracy Websites Hours After ReleaseUnlike scores of people who scrambled for the blockbuster drugs Ozempic and Wegovy to lose weight in recent years, Danielle Griffin had no trouble getting them. The 38-year-old information technology worker from New Mexico had a prescription. Her pharmacy had the drugs in stock. And her health insurance covered all but $25 to $50 of the monthly cost. For Griffin, the hardest part of using the new drugs wasn’t access. It was finding out that the much-hyped medications didn’t really work for her. “I have been on Wegovy for a year and a half and have only lost 13 pounds,” said Griffin, who watches her diet, drinks plenty of water and exercises regularly. “I’ve done everything right with no success. It’s discouraging.” In clinical trials, most participants taking Wegovy or Mounjaro to treat obesity lost an average of 15% to 22% of their body weight — up to 50 pounds or more in many cases. But roughly 10% to 15% of patients in those trials were “nonresponders” who lost less than 5% of their body weight. Now that millions of people have used the drugs, several obesity experts told The Associated Press that perhaps 20% of patients — as many as 1 in 5 — may not respond well to the medications. It's a little-known consequence of the obesity drug boom, according to doctors who caution eager patients not to expect one-size-fits-all results. “It's all about explaining that different people have different responses,” said Dr. Fatima Cody Stanford, an obesity expert at Massachusetts General Hospital The drugs are known as GLP-1 receptor agonists because they mimic a hormone in the body known as glucagon-like peptide 1. Genetics, hormones and variability in how the brain regulates energy can all influence weight — and a person's response to the drugs, Stanford said. Medical conditions such as sleep apnea can prevent weight loss, as can certain common medications, such as antidepressants, steroids and contraceptives. “This is a disease that stems from the brain,” said Stanford. “The dysfunction may not be the same” from patient to patient. Despite such cautions, patients are often upset when they start getting the weekly injections but the numbers on the scale barely budge. “It can be devastating,” said Dr. Katherine Saunders, an obesity expert at Weill Cornell Medicine and co-founder of the obesity treatment company FlyteHealth. “With such high expectations, there’s so much room for disappointment.” That was the case for Griffin, who has battled obesity since childhood and hoped to shed 70 pounds using Wegovy. The drug helped reduce her appetite and lowered her risk of diabetes, but she saw little change in weight. “It’s an emotional roller coaster,” she said. “You want it to work like it does for everybody else.” The medications are typically prescribed along with eating behavior and lifestyle changes. It’s usually clear within weeks whether someone will respond to the drugs, said Dr. Jody Dushay, an endocrine specialist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Weight loss typically begins right away and continues as the dosage increases. For some patients, that just doesn't happen. For others, side effects such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea force them to halt the medications, Dushay said. In such situations, patients who were counting on the new drugs to pare pounds may think they’re out of options. “I tell them: It's not game over,” Dushay said. Trying a different version of the new class of drugs may help. Griffin, who didn't respond well to Wegovy, has started using Zepbound, which targets an additional hormone pathway in the body. After three months of using the drug, she has lost 7 pounds. “I'm hoping it's slow and steady,” she said. Other people respond well to older drugs, the experts said. Changing diet, exercise, sleep and stress habits can also have profound effects. Figuring out what works typically requires a doctor trained to treat obesity, Saunders noted. “Obesity is such a complex disease that really needs to be treated very comprehensively,” she said. “If what we’re prescribing doesn’t work, we always have a backup plan.” The Associated Press Health and Science Department receives support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Science and Educational Media Group.
