LONDON: Palestinians welcomed the decision by the International Criminal Court on Thursday to issue arrest warrants for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former minister of defense, Yoav Gallant. The Palestinian Authority said the court’s decision comes as Israeli forces continue to bomb Gaza in a conflict that has killed nearly 45,000 Palestinians since the Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas, and it hopes the ruling will help to restore faith in international law, the official Palestinian WAFA news agency reported. Netanyahu and Gallant are the first leading officials from a nation allied with the West against whom the ICC has issued arrest warrants since the court was established in July 2002. It also issued an arrest warrant for Mohammed Deif, the head of the military wing of Hamas. Israeli authorities said in August he was killed by their forces in an attack the previous month, though Hamas have not confirmed this. All three men are accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity over their actions during the war in Gaza or the Oct. 7 attacks. The PA said the decision to issue warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant was important because Palestinians “are being subjected to genocide and war crimes, represented by starvation as a method of warfare,” as well as mass displacement and collective punishment. The PA, which signed up to the ICC in 2015, called on all UN member states to ensure the warrants are acted upon and to “cut off contact and meetings with the international wanted men, Netanyahu and Gallant.” Israel is not a member of the ICC. The EU’s chief diplomat, Josep Borrel, posted a message on social media platform X on Thursday in which he described the court’s decisions as “binding” on all those who have signed up to it. “These decisions are binding on all states party to the Rome Statute (the treaty that established the ICC), which includes all EU member states,” he wrote. Netanyahu, Israel’s longest-serving prime minister who has spent 17 years in office during three spells in charge since 1996, denounced the decision by the ICC to issue the warrant as “antisemitic.” He said it would “have serious consequences for the court and those who will cooperate with it in this matter.”Transgender Rep.-elect Sarah McBride calls GOP attacks 'an attempt to distract' from the issues
( ) shares are starting the week on a positive note. In morning trade, the ASX 300 battery tech stock is up 11% to 82 cents. Why is this ASX 300 battery tech stock jumping? Investors have been snapping up Novonix shares today after the company a binding offtake agreement. This is the second agreement of its type it has announced this month. The first was . Today's agreement is with PowerCo. It was established by auto giant in 2022 and is committed to ramp-up global battery cell production. PowerCo oversees international factory operations, advances in cell technology, and vertical integration of the battery value chain. It has identified three gigafactory locations – Salzgitter in Germany, Valencia in Spain, and St. Thomas in Canada. These have a combined capacity of up to 200 GWh/year. Offtake agreement According to the release, the binding offtake agreement is for a minimum of 32,000 tonnes of high-performance synthetic graphite material. This material will be supplied to PowerCo over a five-year term starting in 2027. This is subject to the ASX 300 battery tech stock achieving agreed upon milestones regarding final mass production qualification and satisfying certain compliance criteria. It must also secure financing commitments for the production facilities that will supply PowerCo product. Products will be priced under an undisclosed pricing structure that has been agreed between the parties. This agreement follows the previously announced signing of a non-exclusive testing and development agreement back in March. Riverside production plans The ASX 300 battery tech stock notes that this agreement means that its Riverside facility is poised to become the first large-scale production site dedicated to high-performance synthetic graphite for the battery sector in North America. It is slated to begin commercial production in 2025, with plans to grow output to 20,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) to meet current customer commitments. But it won't stop there. The demand outlook is so positive that Novonix is progressing plans to build a second production facility in southeastern United States that will have an initial capacity of 30,000 tpa and plans to expand that facility to 75,000 tpa. It is in discussions with the U.S. Department of Energy Loan Program Office (LPO) for an Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing Program loan to support the construction of this new production facility. As things stand, ASX 300 battery tech stock's current plans call for total production to increase to at least 150,000 tpa of synthetic graphite material to accommodate anticipated customer demand.NoneRico Carty, who won the 1970 NL batting title with the Atlanta Braves, has diedIan Holloway labelled Swindon Town's performance during their 4-0 defeat at Colchester United as unacceptable. Swindon were blown to bits during the first 45 minutes as an own goal from Harry Smith from yet another corner got Colchester rolling and the momentum never switched. A brace from Samson Tovide and an assist when he set up Jack Payne capped off a mortifying first half before both teams eased up knowing it was all done after the break. Holloway said that he didn't even recognise some of the players as they wilted in Essex to see the club fall to the bottom of the table. He said: "It is difficult to say [what went wrong in the first half], I think that the goal wounded us and then everything that we were doing before that goal stopped. "The energy that they got from it and the energy that we lost from it was unforgivable. Absolutely, totally unforgivable. "In truth, we were beaten there and then and then we went two-goals down again and they just ran all over this. "I haven't seen that from my lot. I have seen mistakes and it almost mot affect us and we have been able to come back and turn that around but tonight that was unacceptable. "I am shocked because I didn't expect that from these lads, from the fight that they showed at the weekend before penalties. "Your heart and your soul should be fighting for the people who have driven up here to watch you play and you look like you don't care. "It is unacceptable and they know that." Holloway added that even if the team was still feeling tired from the exhausting game at the weekend, it was no excuse for this display. He said: "Did I pick too many who played 120 minutes? Maybe but even so that is not good enough. "Let's face it we are in the mire right now and we deserve to be after that because the only word for it is unacceptable. "Anybody with a Swindon badge on, I apologise because that is not good enough and I am going to show them what that looked like - they are going to watch every single minute of that first half. "The fight that I expect them to have, I didn't see until the second half and that is too late. "I am hurting badly at the moment. We have lost to Carlisle already and we have lost to Morecambe already and now we are rooted to the bottom. "Now that we are every game is going to be tougher and if this is how we are going to respond then I might need the cavalry to come in. "As a professional to let a goal in and then show the disappointment as much as we did is unacceptable. "We had an awful lot of minutes still to go to change the game around but if you let something like that hurt you so badly then we need to change it."
The connections are clear between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers, longtime NFC South rivals. The teams get together for a meeting on Sunday in Charlotte and showed recent signs they can play with any team. "It's an NFC South battle," Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles said. "All of them are going to be hard, none of them (are) going to be easy. ... They're playing pretty good football. They missed some games here and there, but they're playing very good football. It's going to be a tough battle." Few introductions are needed on Sunday, as first-year Panthers coach Dave Canales came to Carolina after serving as Buccaneers offensive coordinator a season ago. Canales' prized pupil last season, Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield was with the Panthers for part of the 2022 campaign. "There's some familiarity," Canales said of his connection to the Buccaneers. "Knowing coach Bowles, he's got a really sophisticated system and he attacks each team with a specific game plan. There's some principles that carry over. I know that he's going to have some things up his sleeve." The Buccaneers (5-6) playing a division opponent for the first time since an Oct. 27 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. The goal will be notching back-to-back wins for the first time since the first two weeks of the season. Four different ball-carriers, including Mayfield, found the end zone on the ground during a 30-7 drubbing of the New York Giants last Sunday. Mayfield also completed 24 of 30 passes for 294 yards. "For me, the biggest thing was blocking and tackling," Bowles said of what his team did well last weekend. "We cleaned up the fundamental and technique part of it." Star wideout Mike Evans was back in action for Tampa Bay following a three-game absence due to a hamstring injury. He finished with five receptions for 68 yards against the Giants and now gets a crack at a Carolina team allowing a league-high 30.9 points per game this season. However, the Panthers have tightened up their play as of late, winning two games in a row before hanging with the two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs in a 30-27 setback last Sunday. The outing against Kansas City may have been the most efficient performance of Panthers quarterback Bryce Young's two-year career. Young completed 21 of 35 passes for 263 yards and one score without throwing a pick. "It's not all Bryce, it's the whole unit," Canales said. "It's a collective effort, but he certainly needs to be the voice and driver of that." Wide receiver Jalen Coker (quadriceps), tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders (neck) and safety Lonnie Johnson (personal) were all missing from practice on Wednesday for Carolina. Defensive end LaBryan Ray is dealing with a hand issue and was among those limited. Safety Jordan Whitehead (pectoral) was one of four Buccaneers to miss practice on Wednesday. Evans practiced in full. Carolina and Tampa Bay might as well get used to each other, as the two teams will collide again in Week 17. --Field Level MediaRico Carty, who won the 1970 NL batting title when he hit a major league-best .366 for the Atlanta Braves, has died. He was 85. Major League Baseball , the players' association and the Braves paid tribute to Carty on social media on Sunday. No further details on Carty's death were provided. “Carty was one of the first groundbreaking Latino stars in the major leagues, and he established himself as a hero to millions in his native Dominican Republic, his hometown of San Pedro de Macoris, and the city of Atlanta, where he was a beloved fan favorite,” the players' association said in its statement . The Braves said Carty left an indelible mark on the organization. “While his on-field accomplishments will never be forgotten, his unforgettable smile and generous nature will be sorely missed,” the team said in its statement. Carty made his big league debut with the Braves in September 1963. He batted .330 with 22 homers and 88 RBIs in his first full season in 1964, finishing second to Dick Allen in voting for NL Rookie of the Year. The Braves moved from Milwaukee to Atlanta after the 1965 season, and Carty got the franchise's first hit in its new home on April 12, 1966, against Pittsburgh. Carty had his best year in 1970, batting .366 with 25 homers and a career-best 101 RBIs. He started the All-Star Game after he was elected as a write-in candidate, joining Willie Mays and Hank Aaron in the NL outfield.
