Oregon and Ohio State already have produced one heck of a game this season. Now, the top-seeded Ducks (13-0) and No. 8 Buckeyes (11-2) are gearing up for a rematch more than 10 weeks later in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal game at the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day. Of course, both teams have had ample time for evolution since that 32-31 Oregon win Oct. 12. But they also have that game and players’ familiarity with each other, not to mention common opponents in the Big Ten. “Sometimes when you’re playing against a team maybe from another conference in the playoffs, there’s a little bit of an unknown — how can you expect this guy to play?” Buckeyes coach Ryan Day said Monday. “What am I really looking at when I look at the teams they’re playing? “This team’s not that way because we played them already, and they played in the conference. So there’s again a reference point as we move into this one. So our guys know what they’re up against, but they also know that they’ve evolved and we’ve evolved, and so two very different teams heading into this game. Game plans figure to change, with plenty of tweaks on offense and defense along the way. “They’ve changed, and they’re much more multiple in what they do,” Day said of the Ducks. “So you combine all those things together, and you put the game plan in. And then you throw some things out. You add some things that you think might fit. “At the end of the day, you only have to pack what you need, and you’ve got to make sure that it’s clean and it’s a plan that the guys can go execute with a lot of confidence. BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Freshman wide receiver George Dimopoulos threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Dane Pardridge on the first play of double overtime and Jordan Hansen ended the game on a fourth-down sack to give Northern Illinois a 28-20 victory over Fresno State on Monday in the Idaho Potato Bowl. Dimopoulos, who played quarterback in high school, also converted the two-point conversion when he passed it to quarterback Josh Holst for his second completion of the season. Holst, a freshman walk-on, was making just his third start at quarterback as NIU was without starter Ethan Hampton, who entered with 1,600 yards and 12 touchdowns to go with six interceptions. Holst completed 18 of 30 passes for 182 and two touchdowns for Northern Illinois (8-5). He was also intercepted on the first play of the game. Both teams missed a 35-yard field goal in the final three minutes of regulation, including Dylan Lynch's third miss of the game on the final play to send it to overtime. COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A fight broke out at midfield after Michigan stunned No. 2 Ohio State 13-10 on Saturday as Wolverines players attempted to plant their flag and were met by Buckeyes who confronted them. Police had to use pepper spray to break up the players, who threw punches and shoves in the melee that overshadowed the rivalry game. Ohio State police said in a statement “multiple officers representing Ohio and Michigan deployed pepper spray.” Ohio State police will investigate the fight, according to the statement. After the Ohio State players confronted their bitter rivals at midfield, defensive end Jack Sawyer grabbed the top of the Wolverines' flag and ripped it off the pole as the brawl moved toward the Michigan bench. Eventually, police officers rushed into the ugly scene. Ohio State coach Ryan Day said he understood the actions of his players. “There are some prideful guys on our team who weren't going to sit back and let that happen,” Day said. The two Ohio State players made available after the game brushed off questions about it. Michigan running back Kalel Mullings, who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown, didn't like how the Buckeyes players involved themselves in the Wolverines' postgame celebration. He called it “classless.” “For such a great game, you hate to see stuff like that after the game," he said in an on-field interview with Fox Sports. “It’s just bad for the sport, bad for college football. But at the end of the day, you know some people got to — they got to learn how to lose, man. ... The 37-page report by the bipartisan panel includes explicit details of sex-filled parties and vacations that Gaetz, now 42, took part in from 2017 to 2020 while the Republican represented Florida's western Panhandle. Congressional investigators concluded that Gaetz violated multiple state laws related to sexual misconduct while in office, though not federal sex trafficking laws. They also found that Gaetz "knowingly and willfully sought to impede and obstruct" the committee's work. "The Committee determined there is substantial evidence that Representative Gaetz violated House Rules and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress," the report said. Before the report came out, Gaetz denied wrongdoing and criticized the committee's process. "Giving funds to someone you are dating — that they didn't ask for — and that isn't 'charged' for sex is now prostitution?!?" he posted on X, the website formerly known as Twitter. "There is a reason they did this to me in a Christmas Eve-Eve report and not in a courtroom of any kind where I could present evidence and challenge witnesses." Gaetz, who was first elected in 2017, spent the majority of his time in Washington enmeshed in scandals that ultimately derailed his selection by President-elect Donald Trump to lead the Justice Department. Gaetz abruptly resigned from Congress last month. His political future is uncertain, though Gaetz has indicated interest in running for the open Senate seat in Florida. The committee painted a damning portrait of Gaetz's conduct, using dozens of pages of exhibits, including text messages, financial records, travel receipts, checks and online payments, to document a party and drug-fueled lifestyle. The committee said it compiled the evidence after issuing 29 subpoenas for documents and testimony and contacting more than two dozen witnesses. In addition to soliciting prostitution, the report said Gaetz "accepted gifts, including transportation and lodging in connection with a 2018 trip to the Bahamas, in excess of permissible amounts." That same year, investigators said, Gaetz arranged for a staffer to obtain a passport for a woman with whom he was sexually involved, falsely telling the State Department that she was his constituent. In some of the text exchanges made public, he appeared to invite various women to events, getaways or parties, and arrange airplane travel and lodging. There were also discussions of shipping goods. One of the exhibits was a text exchange that appeared to be between two of the women concerned about their cash flow and payments. In another, a person asked Gaetz for help to pay an educational expense. Regarding the 17-year-old girl, the report said there was no evidence Gaetz knew she was a minor when he had sex with her. She told the committee she did not tell Gaetz she was under 18 at the time and that he learned she was a minor more than a month after the party. But Gaetz stayed in touch with her after that and met up with her for "commercial sex" again less than six months after she turned 18, according to the committee. Florida law says it is a felony for a person 24 or older to have sex with a minor. The law does not allow a claim of ignorance or misrepresentation of a minor's age as a defense. Joel Leppard, who represents two women who told the committee that Gaetz paid them for sex, said the findings "vindicate" the accounts of his clients and "demonstrate their credibility." At least one Republican joined all five Democrats on the committee this month in voting to release the report despite initial opposition from GOP lawmakers, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, to publishing findings about a former member of Congress. While ethics reports have previously been released after a member's resignation, it is extremely rare. On behalf of the Republicans who voted against making the report public, the committee chairman, Rep. Michael Guest of Mississippi, wrote that while the members did not challenge the findings, "we take great exception that the majority deviated from the Committee's well-established standards," to drop any investigation when a person is no longer a member of the chamber. Guest said releasing this report set a precedent that "is a dangerous departure with potentially catastrophic consequences." But Maryland Rep. Glenn Ivey, a Democratic member of the committee, said that for transparency, it was crucial for the public and Congress as an institution to read the findings. "I think that's important for my colleagues here in the House to know how the committee reviews certain acts," he told The Associated Press. "Some of these were obviously conduct that crossed the line, but some of them weren't." Mounting a last-ditch effort to halt the publication of the report, Gaetz filed a lawsuit Monday asking a federal court to intervene. He cited what he called "untruthful and defamatory information" that would "significantly damage" his "standing and reputation in the community." Thanks to a $13.4 million purchase, residents can expect a 300-acre park to roll out in north Fort Worth. During their Dec. 10 meeting, City Council members approved the purchase of 298.189 acres of land to become Tinsley Ranch Park. The park will be located at 3150 and 3450 Tinsley Lane, adjacent to Eagle Mountain Park and Eagle Mountain Lake. Funding for the parkland comes from loan repayments from park planning districts and the parks and recreation department budget. The eventual park is crucial to north Fort Worth as the growing city looks to balance conservation efforts with development, particularly in neglected regions of the city, said parks and recreation department spokesperson Karen Stuhmer in a statement. “This acquisition provides land for the development of future recreational opportunities and green space in an area identified as underserved in community parkland,” said Stuhmer. The nearly 300 acres of land goes toward the city’s Open Space Conservation Program and aligns with Mayor Mattie Parker’s green space initiative , Good Natured, which aims to preserve 10,000 acres of open space by 2028. Established in 2019, the open space program is designed to conserve Fort Worth’s natural areas to foster environmental benefits and recreational opportunities as development expands in the city. “(The green space) initiative reflects the city’s commitment to sustainable growth and enhancing the overall park system as Fort Worth expands,” said Stuhmer. Since voters approved $15 million in the 2022 bond election to fund the Open Space Conservation Program, the city has acquired just over 600 acres in open space as of November, according to the city’s new green space champion, Allison Docker . Large acquisitions such as Tinsley Ranch Park help to maintain residents’ quality of life by offering a space for outdoor activities, connecting with nature and fostering community, said Stuhmer. “By acquiring this land now, we are securing a significant recreational and environmental resource for current and future generations of Fort Worth residents,” said Stuhmer. The purchase comes after City Council members also approved an expense of $3.9 million in a Nov. 19 meeting for more than 150 acres in west Fort Worth . That land is home to a cross timber forest and riparian and prairie ecosystems. Other large properties recently acquired through the open space program include land near the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, Lake Arlington, Tandy Hills Natural Area, and Rock Creek Ranch Park , which recently received an additional 58 acres. However, memorable clashes between the Reds and the Citizens aren't exclusive to this current golden rivalry the two clubs find themselves involved in. Here are five absolutely fantastic fixtures pitting Liverpool against Man City, determined by renowned footballing publication FourFourTwo back in 2021. Man City 2-1 Liverpool, 2019 (Premier League) This was a pivotal one, as Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane scored either side of Roberto Firmino's equaliser to begin the reeling-in of the seven-points-clear Reds in the second half of the 2018-19 campaign. With 18 wins from the back 19 fixtures, City would go on to beat Liverpool to the title that season while Jurgen Klopp had to settle for the Champions League trophy and finally ending the Reds' domestic league drought the following season. 5. Children’s Minister Roderic O’Gorman said the party could not buck the trend in Ireland of junior coalition partners in Fine Gael and Fianna Fail governments losing support in subsequent elections. He said they expected to retain two to three seats out of the 12 they had won in the 2020 election on the back of a worldwide “Green wave”. “Undoubtedly it’s a disappointing result for our party today,” Mr O’Gorman told reporters in Ongar, Dublin. “It’s hard for a smaller party in government, that’s long been the tradition, the history in Ireland. We hoped going into the election to buck that but we haven’t been able to buck that today.” Mr O’Gorman, a candidate in Dublin West, is among the outgoing Green Party TDs in a battle to retain their seats. Culture Minister Catherine Martin, who is fighting to remain a Green Party TD for Dublin Rathdown, said it was a “very tight” race in her four-seat constituency. “We go in (to government) not afraid of that because the issue of the climate and biodiversity crisis is (greater) than our survival,” she said on RTE Radio. “I stand over and am proud of our track record of delivery.” Green candidate in Waterford Marc O Cathasaigh said he would not be “in the shake-up” to retain his seat in that constituency, while junior minister Ossian Smyth looks at risk of losing his seat in Dun Laoghaire. Junior minister Joe O’Brien is expected to lose his seat in Dublin Fingal, Neasa Hourigan is at risk in Dublin Central, while Wicklow’s Steven Matthews garnered just 4% of first preferences. Former Green Party leader Eamon Ryan, who announced his retirement from frontline politics in June, said his party had not had a good day. Arriving at the count centre at the RDS in Dublin, the outgoing environment minister told reporters: “If you don’t get elected you accept that, but you come back stronger and you learn lessons, and we’ve done that in the past and we will do that again.” He added: “No matter what the results today there will be a strong Green Party in Ireland, we have deep roots in the community and it’s a very distinct political philosophy and I think there is still space for that in Irish politics, for sure.” Mr Ryan said he did not believe his decision to retire, and the timing of his announcement, had affected the party’s showing. “Unfortunately – and this is just one of those days – we didn’t get the number of votes,” he said.
