Trump has promised again to release the last JFK files. But experts say don’t expect big revelationsLast month, the film adaptation of the popular Broadway musical, “ Wicked ,” released in theaters, breaking box office records. A viral post online prompts people to share photos they took while watching the movie. “Show ur ‘wicked part 1’ photos,” the post says. Although many people are aware that video recording inside the theater is illegal, others replied to the post with photos they took in their local movie theater, sparking a discussion online about whether it’s legal to take those pictures. Movie theater chain Alamo Drafthouse responded to the post calling for photos, writing “Or, don't do that.” THE QUESTION Is it illegal to take pictures of movies at the theaters? THE SOURCES United States Code 2319B Eisner Gorin LLP AMC Theaters Regal THE ANSWER Yes, it is illegal to take pictures of movies at the theaters. WHAT WE FOUND Taking photos of a movie in theaters is illegal under federal copyright laws. Movie theaters also ban the practice. United States Code 2319B states that “any person who, without the authorization of the copyright owner, knowingly uses or attempts to use an audiovisual recording device to transmit or make a copy of a motion picture or other audiovisual work protected under title 17, or any part thereof, from a performance of such work in a motion picture exhibition facility” could face up to three years in prison, fines, or both. If it's a subsequent offense, prison time can increase to up to six years. Audiovisual recording devices are defined under the law to be “a digital or analog photographic or video camera, or any other technology or device capable of enabling the recording or transmission of a copyrighted motion picture or other audiovisual work.” By that definition, cell phones or any still image camera would be included. In addition, the crime is not limited to distributing or sharing illegal work. The very act of taking the picture is in itself illegal. While the law “emerged in response to the growing threat of piracy in the digital age,” Eisner Gorin LLP says it “targets the act of recording itself, regardless of whether the recorded content is distributed or used for personal gain.” Federal law gives theater employees the authority to detain anyone suspected of violating the law. Many movie theaters have outlined in their rules that filming or taking photos during a movie is strictly prohibited. For example, Regal’s admittance policy says , “No recording devices (cameras, video recorders, sound recorders, etc.) are permitted to be used within any Regal Entertainment Group facility.” AMC Theaters has a similar policy, with its code of conduct stating , “In support of federal law, camera use is not permitted in our auditoriums”
“A shot of Wild Turkey,” said the woman in a cashmere stocking cap. “A shot of Wild Turkey?” I blurted out, not really thinking about how judgey that might have sounded. I didn’t mean it judgmentally, but when it’s 11 a.m. on Thanksgiving, sometimes things just come out — just ask your Uncle Ted. “Free-range turkey, huh?” I joked, hoping to recover. She downed the shot without even sitting down, probably oblivious to my joke. But in the service business, we’re not supposed to force service on someone. If that person doesn’t want their chair pulled out for them nobody should tell them otherwise. Maybe somebody should tell that to the folks at the French Laundry, just saying. “My family is driving me crazy,” was all she said. That woman left $20 on the bar, which easily covered her $14 whiskey and then some. If there’s one thing I’ve noticed it’s that people who drink quick shots are usually proportionally the most generous. It’s ironic since that drink requires no special skill, garnish, preparation or even glassware, and usually the interaction lasts 40 seconds or less. Holiday meals used to be called feasts, and I still evoke that imagery: a large table piled high with celebratory food with people gathered all around. It’s certainly what many of us envision of the first Thanksgiving, as faulty as that imagery is. Because a modern “traditional” Thanksgiving feast — turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce — is actually more of a traditional English Christmas meal. The meal shared by the Wampanoags and the Pilgrims consisted of mostly venison. In fact, the only foodstuff on record specifically by name are the three deer the Wampanoag people brought to the three-day feast. But history is so often what we choose to remember, not actually what happened. So, here we are today with cranberry sauce. Why? Because my grandparents put it on their table, and so did my parents, and now so do I. The young woman in the stocking cap was long gone. I guess waxing philosophically can look like spacing out, depending upon whose perspective it is. When the man in his 50s bellied up to the bar 10 minutes later, we were already 50 mimosas into our prix-fixe feast. Feasts often do start early. The early feaster sat half on a bar stool and checked his phone. And he, too, ordered a shot. His was tequila. And if memory serves me right, when asked what kind of tequila, he responded with, “It doesn’t matter.” “Rough day?” I asked. “You know, families,” he said. The holiday season can be stressful. Familial obligations are often fun, but not always, and not for everybody. And when you see 200 different families in one day, the odds go up that you’re going to see the whole gamut. So, just remember when you have your Thanksgiving that what you experience is your experience, not everybody’s. It’s the same with any other holiday. The man, too, left $20 on the bar, which really more than covered his $10 well tequila. A lot is made every year of holiday meal pairings. But have you ever noticed that holiday food itself often isn’t actually paired very well? What exactly does cranberry sauce go with? The turkey? The stuffing? The mashed potatoes? I don’t know and it doesn’t appear that anyone else does either. Maybe before we start pairing wine with the food, we should first make sure all the food works together. Take it from the guy who often clears the holiday feast from the table, green beans almost always go directly in the garbage — even the ones with fried onions on top of them. Ironically, the onions themselves are almost always gone. Finally, a woman in her late 70s, early 80s, sporting a gold lamé turban right out of a 1969 color episode of TV’s “Bewitched,” poked her head around the corner. “Do you have any green crème de menthe?” she asked. “We do,” I said, acknowledging the one and only bottle of it that we have ever carried. “I’ll have a shot of that,” she said. “You don’t see many people drinking crème de menthe anymore,” I said. “Well, I don’t want my family to know I’m drinking,” she said. “We are all doing a sober Thanksgiving.” She, too, left $20 on the bar, which absolutely more than covered her $8 crème de menthe. Sometime later, when I passed through the dining room, I scanned the room for all three of those people. They were easy enough to find. They were all at the same table. Leaving me with these thoughts: • The trendier your drink is, the more expensive it will be. • There’s a difference between “getting” to work Thanksgiving and “having” to. • Sometimes the only things that bind a family together are the holidays and the dysfunction. • Often the bar in many restaurants is not visible from the dining room. (ASX: XJO) stock ( ) managed to buck the broader market retrace on Tuesday. Shares in the global packaging giant closed out the day trading for $16.36 apiece, up 1.93%. The ASX 200 went the other way, closing down 0.69% yesterday. Following on that positive day of trading, Amcor shares are up 16% since this time last year. And this doesn't include the 76.5 cents per share in unfranked dividends Amcor delivered to shareholders over the 12 months. More recently, as you can see on the chart above, the ASX 200 dividend stock remains down about 2% over the last month despite the past week's rebound. But according to Baker Young's Toby Grimm, patient investors should see Amcor shares surpass those levels in 2025 (courtesy of The Bull). "Delays in expected volume growth in the first quarter of fiscal year 2025 have weighed on the packaging giant's share price in recent weeks," said Grimm, who has a recommendation on Amcor shares. But Grimm isn't concerned about the recent headwinds hitting the ASX 200 dividend stock. On the contrary, he said, "In our view, it creates an attractive opportunity to add this high quality US focused leader to portfolios at an appealing discount to fair value." Part of that appeal stems from the on offer, with Amcor paying dividends on a quarterly basis. "The stock's expected dividend yield of 4.9% should afford investors time to wait for an eventual recovery in healthcare and North American beverage volumes," Grimm said. At yesterday's closing price, Amcor shares trade on an unfranked trailing dividend yield of 4.7%, below the expected yield Grimm cites. Last Wednesday, 20 November, the ASX 200 dividend stock released a bombshell merger . Namely, Amcor's intention to acquire United States-based packaging company ( ). With major operations in the US, dual-listed Amcor also trades on the NYSE. The proposed merger would see Berry shareholders receive 7.25 Amcor shares for each Berry share they hold upon closing. Under these terms, Amcor shareholders will then own around 63% of the combined company, with Berry shareholders owning the other 37%. The all stock deal is valued at US$8.4 billion (AU$12.9 billion). If the merger proceeds, the joined company is expected to earn combined revenues of US$24 billion. Commenting on the potential benefits the deal could bring for shareholders of the ASX 200 dividend stock, Amcor CEO Peter Konieczny said, "We will have a more complete and more sustainable product offering, supported by stronger innovation capabilities, global scale and supply chain flexibility."

North Korean troops have been deployed to a new Russian frontline region, a Ukrainian official said Friday. On October 23, U.S. officials confirmed that North Korea had sent troops to Russia to aid the country in its ongoing war against Ukraine, which began when Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Kyiv in February 2022. Meanwhile, a North Korean representative to the United Nations (U.N.) said last month that reports that Pyongyang is sending soldiers to Moscow were "groundless rumors." On Monday, Deputy Pentagon press secretary Sabrina Singh told reporters that it is likely that roughly 11,000 North Korean troops have entered Russia's Kursk region. The Kursk region, located along Russia's border with Ukraine, was the site of Kyiv's surprise incursion in August. Singh added that the North Korean troops are "moving into Kursk for a reason. We have every expectation that they would be engaged in combat operations." Andrii Kovalenko, the head of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council's Center for Countering Disinformation, wrote on Telegram on Friday that some North Korean troops have moved into the Belgorod region. "Part of the military from the DPRK was transferred to the border area of the Belgorod region," he wrote, using North Korea's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). "There are none in the Kharkiv region." The Belgorod Oblast is south of the Kursk Oblast and directly across from the Kharkiv Oblast in Ukraine, which holds Kyiv's second-largest city, Kharkiv. The Russian city of Belgorod has been a target of Ukrainian strikes in the past. Newsweek reached out to the Russian government via online form and Ukraine's foreign affairs ministry via email for comment on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, a senior Ukrainian military source told Reuters in an article published on Saturday that Ukraine has lost more than 40 percent of the territory that it seized in its surprise attack in the Kursk region late this summer. "At most, we controlled about 1,376 square kilometres [roughly 531 square miles], now of course this territory is smaller. The enemy is increasing its counterattacks," said the unnamed source, who is on the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The source added: "Now we control approximately 800 square kilometres [roughly 309 square miles]. We will hold this territory for as long as is militarily appropriate." President Joe Biden , meanwhile, recently authorized Ukraine to use U.S.-supplied missiles deeper inside Russia , granting a months-long request from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky . The decision to allow Ukraine to use the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMs) farther into Russian territory came amid the deployment of North Korean troops along Ukraine's northern border. North Korean troops in Russia signal growing ties between Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un following the signing of a "comprehensive strategic partnership treaty" between the two countries in June. The treaty, which was signed when Putin visited North Korea over the summer, states that Moscow and Pyongyang must immediately provide military aid using "all means" if either is attacked. In exchange for thousands of North Korean soldiers, Russia has provided Pyongyang with air defense missiles and military equipment, according to South Korea's national security adviser. Shin Won-sik revealed on Friday during a broadcast on SBS TV that Russia has supplied North Korea with advanced military technologies to enhance the regime's defense capabilities, particularly around Pyongyang.First trans US congresswoman already in Republican crosshairs
