I am sure she thinks there are checks and balances in place that will hold Trump at bay. Sen. King hasn’t said much since the middle of November. So politely cautious. They should be yelling “danger” from the rooftops. This next month will be about setting the tone for the Trump presidency. Trump is clear about his intentions. His nominations for his administration span the rather short gamut from insane to just really concerning. If that’s how he begins this presidency, it implies he will go far with the same rash, thoughtless decision-making processes he is using now. Forget nominating people by the depth of their experience. It’s a party for super loyalists, friends, super donors and family. If there’s not a position for a friend, make one up (will the FBI vet a position that Trump just created?) Ambassadorships are a great place for family members . A show on Fox “News” is the perfect audition for secretary of something. And Trump is off and running. In light of that, being cautious and polite is really dangerous. It gives Trump the impression he can do anything he wants. Why are Collins and King not saying more? Why? If they don’t stand up to Trump now, I believe there will be hell to pay after Jan. 20. Barely a day goes by without another report of a massacre in Mexico. Just last weekend, eight people were killed in a shooting in Apaseo el Grande, Guanajuato , and seven people were murdered in an attack in Jiutepec, Morelos . But despite the constant stream of bad news — cartel infighting in Sinaloa, turf wars in Guerrero , violence in the border region of the southern state of Chiapas , etc. — homicide numbers are, in fact, falling in Mexico, as highlighted by senior security official Marcela Figueroa Franco at President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning press conference on Tuesday. During the second part of the federal government’s fortnightly security update, Security Minister Omar García Harfuch presented data on arrests and drug seizures since Sheinbaum took office on Oct. 1. Later in her Tuesday morning presser, the president herself responded to reporters’ questions on topics including a potential U.S. invasion of Mexico and the progress that has been made toward mining lithium in Sonora and other parts of the country. Only 30 per cent of NRL players cited money as a reason to change clubs, according to a timely Rugby League Players’ Association survey conducted just as the game prepares to expand into new markets. An RLPA Player’s Pulse poll of its members, numbering more than 700 male and female respondents, provided a range of insights into satisfaction levels with clubs and agents. The most intriguing finding stemmed from their motivation to change teams. While 80 per cent of the broader Australian workforce cited financial gain and easing cost of living as their driver to change jobs, less than one in three players were driven by money to change teams. The insights are timely given the NRL just granted PNG a licence to enter the competition in 2028 , while a Perth franchise could soon be given the nod to come in a year earlier. PNG hopes the lure of tax-free status will be an extra incentive for prospective targets, but the survey results suggest most players will prioritise other considerations. “Total remuneration is, of course, important to players as it is to anyone in the community,” said RLPA chief executive Clint Newton. “However, what primarily motivates players to sign for other clubs is, on the whole, not driven purely by financial terms. That has been consistent for many years in our surveys of our members.” Penrith co-captain Isaah Yeo said the tax concessions would make it hard for players to ignore the franchise. “Safety would be the first one you’d need to [address],” Yeo said on Friday after being awarded the Gold Boot award for best international player for 2024.
