Article content This in from TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger, talking to Dustin Nielson and Lt. Eric on Edmonton Sports Talk Radio about the biggest trade need of the Edmonton Oilers , which Dreger suggested is bringing in help on defence: “We’re going to be talking for a long time — until or unless management does something — about that defence. It does seem like that’s the deepest and darkest area of concern from a defensive and an offensive perspective. It’s pretty obvious. It’s basic hockey. If you don’t get the puck out of your own end, or you can’t transport the puck, into the hands of McDavid and Draisaitl, and go down the list of all the offensive weapons they have, that’s going to be a problem. And it has been. It’s what I think has put this team in a place of wild inconsistency. Dreger said that the Vancouver Canucks acquired Nikita Zadorov near the end of November last year, and that some teams can get decent pieces early. “Let’s see if Edmonton fits into that category. There’s no panic in Edmonton. Nor should there be. But there is concern when it comes to the consistency of this team... I paused for a bit because I wanted to use the ‘dysfunction’ word, and I think that applies as well when I look at their overall game and their lack of consistency.” My take 1. I’m not sure what Edmonton’s biggest need is, but I am sure that Edmonton needs to be careful before it spends assets to fill any one hole. Edmonton doesn’t have a lot in the way of assets, having traded away its first round pick in June 2025 draft and being mighty short on cap space as well. It strikes me that the Oilers will be able to fire just one big bullet this year to bring in a player. Until GM Stan Bowman is sure what the biggest hole is, best not fire off that special bullet, correct? Patience is in order. 2. I’m certainly not sure where the OIlers greatest area of need is. Are you sure? Is Oilers management? Is it in net, where Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard have yet to remind anyone of a fully competent NHL goaltending partnership? Is it on defence, where there’s clearly a hole, but we can’t be sure yet if it’s on the second pairing or the third pairing. If Brett Kulak and Darnell Nurse can get it done and done well on the second-pairing, then Edmonton doesn’t have to trade for a second pairing d-man at huge cost, it just needs to bring in a third-pairing guy to help out Ty Emberson and Troy Stecher. Or is the biggest need on the wing, where the group is underperforming significantly compared to last year? Maybe a big, tough and fast third-line winger will turn out to be the biggest need. Such a player won’t come cheap, correct? 3. The best bet for the Oilers? Hey, if there’s a Zadorov deal out there, Edmonton should make that happen. That would certainly scratch an itch. Vancouver took Calgary to the cleaners on that one, giving up just a third and a fifth round pick. Is it just me, or did that trade have “Screw the Oilers!” written all over it, with Calgary buttressing a major divisional rival? I’m 83 per cent sure I’m just being paranoid and Oilers-centric there. But the best bet is to wait and see, build up cap space, see what happens on the injury and performance front, then pounce on a deal that fills that need. Make sense? Radicalized by statistics: Report fact-checks figures in CEO shooting suspect's manifestoMichigan coach Sherrone Moore let Ohio State fans have it after leading his team to a shocking 13-10 win over the Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Oh. FOX cameras caught Moore turning around and waving to Buckeyes fans immediately after Ohio State was stopped on fourth down in their last-ditch comeback attempt. Moore even took off his headset and walked toward the stands a bit to really double down on his taunting. SHERRONE MOORE WAVES GOODBYE. INCREDIBLE. ( : @CFBONFOX ) pic.twitter.com/nUom6EbTwP — theScore (@theScore) November 30, 2024 Moore was not done there. According to Austin Meek of The Athletic, the Michigan coach was even yelling “we own you” in the direction of Buckeye fans. Sherrone Moore: “We own you!” pic.twitter.com/OAsmwuTUqh — Austin Meek (@byAustinMeek) November 30, 2024 Moore certainly earned the right to gloat. The Wolverines were huge underdogs against a playoff-bound Ohio State team, and took advantage of a host of Buckeye mistakes to pull off the huge road upset. It also marks the Wolverines’ fourth consecutive victory in their most important rivalry game. One could argue that Michigan got a bit too disrespectful in the aftermath of Saturday’s win, but Moore certainly has the right to get the last laugh here. He is 2-0 against Ohio State if you count his victory last year while coaching for the suspended Jim Harbaugh, and despite some tough sledding this season, he got his team to a bowl game with a 7-5 record and a rivalry win. A former GOP lawmaker has his own theory about the reports of “mystery” drones flying over New Jersey in recent weeks. Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) told his followers on Thursday to compare his explanation of the mystery drones to Rep. Jeff Van Drew’s (R-N.J.) long-shot theory that he floated on Wednesday. This comes as residents across the state have expressed deep concerns with the drone reports despite officials reiterating that there is no known threat. Kinzinger, a strong Trump critic, suggested that the drone sightings may be coming from just one private company that is testing its own drones without breaking any laws. “My drone theory, bookmark this vs the Jeff Van Drew ‘Iran mothership’ theory: Private company testing transportation drones, and does not want to reveal their intellectual property so not fessing up... and not breaking any laws at all," Kinzinger wrote on social media platform X. My drone theory, bookmark this vs the Jeff Van Drew “Iran mothership” theory: Private company testing transportation drones, and does not want to reveal their intellectual property so not fessing up... and not breaking any laws at all Van Drew, in a Wednesday appearance on Fox News, floated the idea that the drones over the Garden State could be flying in from an Iranian “mothership” off the East Coast. “This is a national security crisis we cannot ignore,” Van Drew wrote in his post on X . “Bring them down now.” Deputy Defense Department Press Secretary Sabrina Singh debunked this claim in a press conference on Wednesday, explaining that there is no Iranian “mothership” off the East Coast. “There is not any truth to that. There is no Iranian ship off the coast of the United States and there’s no so-called mothership launching drones towards the United States,” she said. It is still not clear what these mystery drones are, but the FBI is continuing to investigate the sightings. The FBI has asked for the public’s assistance in reporting the drones to its tip line. Since her husband died a few years ago, my husband and I have invited her to have dinner with us on several occasions. Recently, I invited her to join us on a certain Friday. I asked about 10 days in advance, and we then settled on a time and restaurant. Everything was fine until about three days before our date. I got a text from her saying that her nephew was coming to town, and she might have a family obligation on Friday. She would let me know whether or not she could make “our date”. I don’t understand. She makes the date with me and then decides this may not work? My husband said that Vivian values her family over our friendship. Your thoughts? – Dining Alone DEAR DINING: While I understand the disappointment of canceled plans, I think your read of Vivian is a bit uncharitable. If her nephew doesn’t live in town, it stands to reason that she doesn’t have as many chances to see him as she does you. I’d hope you’d be happy that your friend gets to maintain family connections. Your friendship isn’t in competition with Vivian’s family. They are separate relationships, each with its own importance. FRISCO, Texas (AP) — A rare win as a double-digit underdog came just in time to let the Dallas Cowboys believe their playoff hopes aren't completely gone in 2024. Cooper Rush probably will need three more victories in a row filling in for the injured Dak Prescott for any postseason talk to be realistic. The thing is, the Cowboys (4-7) could be favored in two of those games, and already are by four points as an annual Thanksgiving Day host against the New York Giants (2-9) on Thursday, according to BetMGM. Not to mention the losing record at the moment for each of the next four opponents for the defending NFC East champions, playoff qualifiers each of the past three seasons. The Cowboys have a chance to make something of the improbable and chaotic 34-26 win at Washington that ended a five-game losing streak. “Behind the eight ball,” Micah Parsons said, the star pass rusher acknowledging the reality that Dallas hadn't done much yet. “Let’s see how we can handle adversity and see if we can make a playoff run. But we got a long way to go.” It was a start, though, powered in part by the best 55 minutes from the Dallas defense since the opener, when the Cowboys dismantled Cleveland and looked the part of a Super Bowl contender. The last five minutes for the Dallas defense against the Commanders looked a lot like most of the nine games after that 33-17 victory over the Browns. Which is to say not very good. Jayden Daniels easily drove Washington 69 yards to a touchdown before throwing an 86-yard scoring pass in the final seconds to Terry McLaurin, who weaved through five defenders when a tackle might have ended the game. The Cowboys kept a 27-26 lead thanks to Austin Seibert's second missed extra point, and withstood another blunder when Juanyeh Thomas returned an onside kick recovery for a TD rather than slide and leave one kneel-down from Rush to end the game. Dallas will have to remember it did hold a dynamic rookie quarterback's offense to 251 yards before the madness of the ending in the Cowboys' biggest upset victory since 2010 at the New York Giants. That one was too late to save the season. This one might not be. “We needed it,” embattled coach Mike McCarthy said. “It’s been frustrating, no doubt. We’ve acknowledged that. We’ve got another one right around the corner here, so we have to get some wins and get some momentum.” Rush ended a personal three-game losing streak with his best showing since the previous time he won as the replacement for Prescott, who is out for the season after surgery for a torn hamstring. The 117.6 passer rating was Rush's best as a starter, and the NFL's second-worst rushing attack played a solid complementary role with Rico Dowdle gaining 86 yards on 19 carries. KaVontae Turpin's electrifying 99-yard kickoff return did more than lift the Cowboys when it appeared an 11-point lead might get away in the final five minutes. It eased the worst day of special teams for Dallas since John Fassel took over that phase four years ago. Suddenly struggling kicker Brandon Aubrey had one field-goal attempt blocked and missed another. Bryan Anger had a punt blocked. For the second time in five games, Aubrey's attempt to bounce a kickoff in front of the return man backfired. The ball bounced outside the landing zone, putting the Commanders at the 40-yard line to start the second half and setting up the drive to the game's first touchdown. CB Josh Butler, whose NFL debut earlier this season came five years after the end of his college career, had 12 tackles, a sack and three pass breakups. The pass breakups were the most by an undrafted Dallas player since 1994. Rookie LT Tyler Guyton, who has had an up-and-down season with injuries and performance issues, was benched immediately after getting called for a false start in the fourth quarter. His replacement, Asim Richards, could be sidelined with a high ankle sprain that executive vice president of personnel Stephen Jones revealed on his radio show Monday. Veteran Chuma Edoga, who was the projected starter at Guyton's position before a preseason toe injury, was active but didn't play against the Commanders. He's awaiting his season debut. The status of perennial All-Pro RG Zack Martin (ankle/shoulder) and LG Tyler Smith (ankle/knee) will be a question on the short week after both sat against Washington. Stephen Jones indicated Smith could be available and said the same of WR Brandin Cooks, who hasn't played since Week 4 because of a knee issue. TE Jake Ferguson may miss at least a second week with a concussion. The short week might make it tough for CB Trevon Diggs (groin/knee) to return. 75% — Rush's completion rate, his best with at least 10 passes. He was 24 of 32 for 247 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. His other game with multiple TDs and no picks was a 25-10 victory over Washington two years ago, when he went 4-1 with Prescott sidelined by a broken thumb. There's some extra rest after the short week, with Cincinnati making a “Monday Night Football” visit on Dec. 9. The next road game is at Carolina on Dec. 15. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

Tetairoa McMillan, one of the best wide receivers in Arizona history, will skip his final year of eligibility and enter the 2025 NFL Draft, he announced on social media on Thursday. Projected as a top-10 draft pick, the 6-foot-5, 212-pound McMillan finished his illustrious career at Arizona with 3,423 receiving yards, breaking the mark set by Bobby Wade (3,351). In three seasons, the Hawaii native also posted the fourth-most catches (213) and third-most touchdowns (26) in school history. "Wildcat Nation, this journey has been everything I dreamed of and more," McMillan wrote on Instagram. "From the moment I committed to the University of Arizona, to every second spent wearing that Arizona jersey ... it's been an absolute honor. "The University of Arizona has provided me with the platform to grow and chase my dreams. ... Thank you from the bottom of my heart. To the best fans in the country, I appreciate you for all of the love and support you have given me these last 3 years. I will always be a Wildcat." In 2024, McMillan totaled 84 grabs (ninth in Division I) for 1,319 yards (third in Division I) and eight touchdowns for the 4-8 Wildcats. He also ranked third in Division I with 109.9 receiving yards per game. McMillan is a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the most outstanding receiver in college football. --Field Level Media

LG has discontinued all of its Blu-ray players and units, and the remaining will only be available while supplies last. The news comes from FlatpanelsHD , which reports that LG discontinued all UHD and regular Blu-ray players based on information it obtained from “multiple sources.” That includes the UBK80 and UBK90 players. Moreover, the publication notes that LG’s website also lists Blu-ray players as discontinued. When I checked LG’s Canadian site, it only listed one UP970 model . Under the ‘Where to buy’ section, the Blu-ray player was listed as discontinued at The Source but in stock at Gibby’s. However, clicking The Source link takes you to the Best Buy homepage (likely because of The Source’s Best Buy rebrand ), and Best Buy doesn’t appear to offer any LG Blu-ray players. Clicking the Gibby’s link takes you to a ‘404! Page cannot be found’ warning. So, it seems like the UP970 isn’t available anymore, at least online. In a statement to Flatpanels HD , LG Korea didn’t confirm a definitive global exit and left the door open for the company to continue selling Blu-ray players should demand pick up again. However, LG hasn’t launched any new Blu-ray player models since 2018 and competitors like Samsung and Oppo exited the market in 2019 and 2018, respectively. FlatpanelsHD also noted that Blu-ray player sales peaked in 2017 and have declined ever since.
