The villa is on a "unique" new design-led residential development which has been brought to the housing market by Savills. Designed by Yiangou Architects and developed by Rectory Homes, The Crescent is a new scheme of 23 four and five bedroom villas set within seven acres of parkland in Thame, Oxfordshire. Guide prices at The Crescent start at £2.25 million for a four bedroom villa. Inspired by the 19th century "country in the city" architectural style, for which the World Heritage cities of Bath and Edinburgh are famous, the development encompasses three central crescent-shaped terraces, complemented by two ‘Parkside’ terraces. The Bath stone buildings are evocative of some of the finest examples of classical architecture, while introducing contemporary design elements and sustainable materials and technologies. Yiangou’s directors, Ross Sharpe and Anthony Lewis, described the scheme as an "amazing opportunity to design a completely contemporary yet contextual piece of urban architecture in the heart of a beautiful, historic Oxfordshire town". The villas are arranged over three storeys, each with a separate multipurpose studio, private courtyard gardens, balconies and terraces. The 12 Crescent Villas offer large footprints of between 3,350 and 3,475 square feet, while the 11 Parkside Villas are between 3,675 and 3,875 square feet. All properties come with a double garage. The interiors encompass features such as double-height atriums and rooflights. Indoor-outdoor living is embedded within the designs, with large windows and private outdoor spaces. The fitted kitchens have features including a central island with breakfast bar and champagne trough, media charging drawer and Quooker hot and filtered water tap. Other notable interior features include joinery within the living room and principal bedroom and a freestanding bath in the principal bathroom. As an independent, family-run business, Rectory Homes has made use of local suppliers across the scheme. Situated within the former grounds of an early 19th century Grade II listed house, The Crescent is set within over seven acres of parkland in the heart of the market town. Simon Vickers, founder and owner of Rectory Homes, said: "I am delighted to be bringing this innovative scheme forward. "I have been building homes in the western Home Counties for some 40 years and we always design each scheme to suit and complement its surroundings. "For me, the combination of this site’s location in the very heart of the town centre, its setting with mature trees around it, the backdrop of The Elms house and the exceptional design that so elegantly takes all these factors into account, is second to none, and I am enormously proud of the outcome. "I am grateful for the concept created by Yiangou and the vision of Officers and Members who acknowledged what this might bring as a landmark scheme to Thame.’ Sign up for a digital subscription now: As a digital subscriber you will get: Unlimited access to the Oxford Mail website Advert-light access Reader rewards Full access to our app

(CNN) — President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Ed Martin, a hardline, socially conservative activist and commentator, to serve as the next chief of staff at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). As CNN first reported in July, Martin has publicly advocated for a national abortion ban without exceptions for rape or incest and has raised imposing criminal penalties on women and doctors involved in abortions. Martin is a former chair of the Missouri Republican Party chair and former radio host, and served as one of the leaders of the 2024 Republican National Convention’s platform committee, which shaped the party’s official stance on key issues. He is the current president of socially conservative group Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. The OMB plays a key role in shaping the president’s economic and legislative agenda by reviewing funding proposals and ensuring they align with the administration’s policy priorities. Martin’s role at OMB could have a potential impact on how federal funds are allocated for programs related to women’s health or reproductive rights. CNN first reported Martin’s comments about potentially jailing women for abortions when he was named deputy policy director for the Republican National Convention’s platform committee. Ultimately, at Trump’s request , the platform softened its language on abortion to remove support for a national ban. A Pew Research Center survey from May 2024 showed that 63% of US adults believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases. Martin didn’t respond to CNN’s requests for comment on the initial story or this one. During his radio show in May 2022, Martin repeatedly discussed the prospect of imprisoning women who undergo abortions, stating, “If you believe it’s a baby – I do – then you have to do something to protect the baby.” Martin has also urged anti-abortion activists to frame the debate in terms of protecting the unborn rather than adopting the framing used by abortion rights advocates about being about a women’s choice. He argued that if the discussion focuses on a woman’s right to choose, it becomes politically difficult to justify criminal penalties for women who get abortions. However, by shifting the argument to focus on the life of the baby, the possibility of punitive measures for women and doctors becomes open. “The late Phyllis Schlafly, whom I worked so closely with, used to say, ‘If you get to claim and frame the argument, you almost certainly get to win,’” Martin said. “In other words, if you take their framing, it’s a woman’s right. Are you gonna put women in jail? No. It’s about a baby. Now, what do we do? Frame the argument. Own the argument.” At the OMB, Martin will report to incoming director Russell Vought, another staunch conservative who previously served in the role during Trump’s first term. Martin and Vought also served together on the platform committee. In the days after a draft opinion striking down Roe v. Wade was leaked in May 2022, Martin first discussed on his radio show possible prison sentences for women and doctors who perform abortions. “If you ban abortion in Louisiana, is a doctor who has an abortion breaking the law? Yes. Should he be punished? Yes – I think that seems obvious. What is the punishment? Not sure yet. Could be criminal, could be a jail sentence, I suppose,” he said. Trump praised Martin in a Truth Social post announcing the selection, writing, “Ed is a winner who will help Make America Great Again!” Martin has also opposed exceptions for abortions to save the life of the mother, calling it “an absolute scientific fact that no abortion is ever performed to save the life of the mother. None, zero, zilch.” According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists , complications during pregnancy can pose life-threatening risks, sometimes requiring an abortion to preserve the mother’s life. Abortions may be necessary to save the life of the mother suffering from pregnancy complications, such as preeclampsia or an ectopic pregnancy. “The true bane of the pro-life movement is the faction of fake pro-lifers who claim to believe in the sanctity of human life but are only willing to vote that way with a list of exceptions,” Martin said on another radio show in June 2022 – days after Roe v. Wade was struck down. His hardline views contrast with Trump’s recent efforts to moderate his rhetoric on abortion, as the issue has become politically challenging for Republicans following the overturning of Roe v. Wade . Trump has advocated for exceptions in cases of rape, incest, and the health of the mother and said that the issue of abortion should largely be left to the states. Still, Martin has continued to push for absolute restrictions on abortion, rejecting exceptions of any kind, including, as he said in July 2022, the rape of a 10-year-old Ohio girl. “Don’t tell me to stop talking about abortion,” Martin said in April 2024 on his radio show. “Don’t tell me that because you don’t think it’s a winner politically, I’m supposed to stop talking about abortion.” The-CNN-Wire TM & © 2024 Cable News Network, Inc., a Warner Bros. Crosby, who is nearly eight months pregnant, thanked those who have sent their support to the couple in an Instagram Story post on Saturday. The reality TV star, 34, wrote: “I’m typing this I’m laid in hospital. Baby is all fine, thank you for all the messages!” She added: “This month has had misfortune after misfortune. I want to thank you all for your kind messages about the break-in the other night. “Still something I’m really struggling to come to terms with.” Ankers also posted a photo of Crosby lying in a hospital bed to his Instagram Story, saying she had been “rushed in to hospital” as the TV star had been experiencing “serious pains in her stomach”. The businessman thanked their followers for reaching out and their local community for being “fantastic” since the burglary attempt. Ankers, who appeared with the reality star on BBC Three reality show Charlotte In Sunderland, previously said the thieves “tried to rob my house with my two-year-old and my partner who is nearly eight months pregnant, armed with a machete”. He said one of the four men “had a red balaclava on” and was carrying the weapon at the top of the stairs. Durham Constabulary were alerted at 7pm on Thursday to reports of an aggravated burglary in Houghton-le-Spring, a town in the Sunderland area. A spokeswoman for the force said: “Officers attended the area however the suspects left the scene before their arrival. “Nobody was injured in the incident and no items are believed to have been taken.” She added that an investigation is under way and anyone with information is asked to contact police. Crosby is best known for appearing in the MTV reality series Geordie Shore and winning the 12th series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2013. She and Ankers got engaged in October 2023 after she gave birth to their first child in 2022.

LENS, France (AP) — Pierre-Emile Højbjerg scored after VAR came to the rescue for Marseille to beat Lens 3-1 in the French league on Saturday. The Denmark midfielder struck in the 89th minute with a free kick awarded when Rémy Labeau-Lascary had what would have been a late equalizer ruled out for a foul by Angelo Fulgini in the buildup. The decision prompted a chorus of whistles from the home fans, who were further riled to see former Lens player Elye Wahi go on for the visitors. Valentin Rongier fired Marseille ahead early in the second half, set up by Neal Maupay, who had been played into the danger area by a good ball from Mason Greenwood. Brazilian forward Luis Henrique made it 2-0 on a counterattack in the 57th. Fulgini pulled one back from close range in the 80th after M’Bala Nzola had two efforts blocked on the line, and Labeau-Lascary thought he’d equalized in the 86th, only for Fulgini’s shove to prove decisive at the other end. The win helped Marseille consolidate third place after its third successive win away from home. Roberto De Zerbi’s team has failed to win any of its last three home games. Following a serious illness, former Lens president Gervais Martel kicked the ball in a symbolic gesture ahead of the actual kickoff. The 70-year-old was visibly moved by the reception he received from fans who displayed a giant banner thanking him for his leadership, and from players who lined up with his name on their jerseys. Fifth-place Lyon was held 1-1 at Reims in the late game. Rayan Cherki headed Lyon in front before the break, but Reims improved after it and Ivory Coast forward Oumar Diakité slid in to equalize in the 55th, keeping Reims a point behind the visitors. Benjamin Bouchouari’s strike from distance after a botched clearance was enough for Saint-Etienne to beat last-place Montpellier 1-0 at home. It was the visitors’ ninth defeat from 12 games, and sixth consecutive on the road. AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccerHurley scores 23, Vermont downs Northeastern 68-64Sainsbury’s shoppers have branded new security measures introduced at stores across the UK as "utterly ridiculous". Customers have flocked to social media to vent that yellow sticker items were scanning at full price on self-service tills at Sainsbury's stores. To get the correct discount, they had to call over a Sainsbury's staff member to approve it. READ MORE: Wilko and The Range issue urgent recalls over popular Christmas products One customer, who described themselves as a "reduced stock shopper", wrote on Reddit: "The last three times I've been to a Sainsbury, the reduced barcode doesn't scan and an employee has to come and help me - is this a national thing and if so, what's happening?" Other shoppers responded by sharing that they had experienced the same thing in their local supermarket store. One Sainsbury's shopper said: "Happened to me several times recently too, utterly ridiculous. I am now avoiding Sainsbury's, it is going down the plughole." And a second added: "It’s a massive headache and I hate it." Another shopper shared on Mumsnet: "I picked up some reduced smoked salmon in Sainsbo's today, but at the self-checkout, it came up as full price. "An assistant altered it and told me they have to do it manually as people are able to make their own yellow sticker barcodes and are using them on self-checkouts. Unbelievable!" A second person commented: "Yes, yellow reduced stickers don’t work in Sainsbury's anymore, which is really annoying when you self-checkout." Sainsbury's confirmed to the Mirror that they have been rolling out these new anti-fraud measures to its self-service tills in response to a surge in the use of fake coupons across its stores so the new security measures are not new. Earlier this year, a viral Tiktok "hack", dubbed "The Sainsbury’s method", allowed people to share screenshots of genuine Sainsbury’s discounts on full-price products. A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: "We have range of security measure in place in our stores, including processes to prevent fraud. We continue to accept genuine coupons, vouchers and reductions and are sorry for the inconvenience this slightly longer checkout process may cause." The new security measures for the self-service tills specifically target yellow sticker items and coupons. When you scan the item now, shoppers are presented with an error message and need to wait for a Sainsbury's worker to manually process the discount. They are unable to proceed with the rest of their shop until the item has been approved, and the process has to be repeated for each item.
