Sign up here . CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Defensive tackle Payton Page shook his head when asked how far his freshman self, the one who weighed over 400 pounds when he came to Clemson, might have run on an interception. “About two yards,” he said, “he wouldn’t have made it far at all.” The slimmer, 315-pound Page, now a senior, took it 57 yards for a touchdown Saturday as the 17th-ranked Tigers routed the Citadel 51-14. Page lunged leftward to catch the ball, saw the open field and began the steady churn to the end zone. “I looked forward and seen I had like 60 more yards to go,” said Page, who was honored in pregame on Senior Day. “I feel like all the work I put in shows,” said Page, who’s started all 11 games this season. “I felt I read that screen pretty good and I made that play.” The pick-6 was the first touchdown by a Clemson defensive lineman since 2019 when Logan Rudolph returned a fumble 39 yards for a TD in a win over Boston College. “When you get a chance to see one of those plays, you better enjoy it,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said. It was part of a 35-0 first half for Clemson (9-2), which held on to feint hopes of reaching the Atlantic Coast Conference title game and the College Football Playoff. Clemson, which finished ACC play at 7-1 with last week’s 24-20 win at Pittsburgh, needs No. 11 Miami to lose at Syracuse next week to play for a league crown for the eighth time in 10 seasons. Clemson cranked it up early in this one, looking a lot like the offense that averaged better than 48 points during a six-game win streak earlier this season instead of the one that had not surpassed 24 points in any of its past three contests. Page wasn’t the only defender to score. Clemson’s All-American senior linebacker Barrett Carter, playing his next-to-last home game, had a 4-yard TD run to end the scoring. “I told coach Swinney a while ago when I decided to come back, I needed an offensive touchdown,” said Carter, who played tailback in high school. “It was so surreal.” And Page was a part of Carter’s score, too, as he led the way in blocking out of the backfield. “I blocked pretty good on that one, too.” The Citadel (5-7), of the FCS Southern Conference, went on to its 19th straight loss to Clemson since 1932. Haynes got the bulk of the work after starter Phil Mafah achieved his 1,000-yard rushing season with three first-quarter runs. Haynes had scoring runs of 70 and 9 yards. The takeaway The Citadel: The Bulldogs are the leaders among FCS teams in victories over FBS opponents with nine since the college football split into Division I and Division I-AA in 1978. They couldn’t stay competitive, but did roll up a season-high 288 yards rushing and scored a touchdown against Clemson for the first time in the past four games in the series. Clemson: The Tigers reached nine wins in a season for the 14th straight time. Only Alabama, which entered the season with 16 straight nine-win seasons, had a longer current streak. Shortening things Officials asked Citadel coach Maurice Drayton after halftime if he wanted to shorten the second half to 10-minute quarters with the Bulldogs trailing 35-0. “Why,” Drayton asked. “We’re here to compete.” The Bulldogs actually outscored the Tigers 7-6 in the fourth quarter. Drayton said that will be something for his team to build on in the offseason. Klubnik’s place Klubnik has 29 touchdown throws this season and 50 in his career, joining Tajh Boyd (107 total), Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence (90 each) as Clemson passers to reach that many during their time with the Tigers. Up next The Citadel’s season is complete. Clemson closes the regular season with its rivalry game with South Carolina on Saturday. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . NASCAR is shaking things up in the Craftsman Truck Series with a new rule change set for the 2025 season. This revision mandates that all pit crew members' firesuit uniforms be consistent in design across the grid, excluding sponsorship branding for those performing behind-the-wall duties. While NASCAR cites cost-effectiveness and safety as primary reasons for the change, drivers like Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin are voicing their frustrations. The new rule applies to one of NASCAR's three national series and stipulates that uniform designs remain consistent across an entire organization's crew. Though colors remain the teams' choice, sponsorship branding is barred for behind-the-wall crew members. NASCAR suggests these rules are meant to streamline costs, but whether they actually will is another question. Veteran driver Kevin Harvick has not shied away from admitting his confusion over this new directive. "What in the world is happening..." Harvick posted to X , pointing to his bewilderment over the push for uniformity. Harvick also proposed an alternative method to cut costs in a cheeky stab at the sport: "First don't add more races to the schedule..." Similarly, Denny Hamlin, co-owner of 23XI Racing, sarcastically commented on the measures. "Its [sic] called cutting your way to prosperity Kev. Duhhh," Hamlin responded, indicating his concern over shortsighted cost-saving strategies. Hamlin tied the rule change to broader issues within NASCAR, sharing a Fox Sports article that discusses an ongoing antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR. "Start here," Hamlin continued, linking to commentary on NASCAR's business methods. The rule's introduction requires substantial upfront costs for teams, who will need to commission new uniforms compliant with the regulation changes. Smaller teams may find this especially burdensome, as the rule essentially curtails sponsorship exposure that could otherwise supplement revenue streams. On top of this, many Truck Series crew members operate across several racing series, adding complexity to the rule's implementation. The requirement could lead to logistical strains, particularly impacting part-time crew members part of more resource-constrained teams. NASCAR is currently embroiled in an antitrust lawsuit that predominantly involves Cup Series teams like Hamlin's 23XI Racing. Central to this case is the contention over NASCAR's use of single-source suppliers, which purportedly stifles competition, escalating team costs. Some see the new uniform rule as indicative of these broader anti-competitive practices, potentially curtailing the field of suppliers teams can collaborate with. While NASCAR is sweetening the pot with increased purse money to offset costs, teams are questioning whether this compensates for the added expenses related to these changes. The balance between the financial burden of compliance versus the potential increase in winnings is a topic of intense debate within the racing community. Critics argue the rule doesn't effectively address fundamental cost issues while imposing new financial and logistical challenges. The necessity of this rule is subject to scrutiny from many within the NASCAR community. Queries arise about the decision's novelty and drawbacks, with prevailing opinions that the rule might exacerbate existing issues rather than mitigate them. Discontent specifically centers on whether the rule truly facilitates cost savings and improved safety, as NASCAR claims. Historically, NASCAR's rule changes attempt to balance safety, cost, and competitive fairness, particularly in lower-tier series like the Truck Series, where finances are more limited. The views held by Harvick and Hamlin reflect a broader spectrum of opinion within the sport. Eliminating sponsor branding on uniforms might affect team marketing strategies and sponsorship procurement. If this shift changes how teams present themselves and their sponsors, it could result in a reconfiguration of the series' revenue model overall.JERUSALEM — A new round of Israeli airstrikes in Yemen on Thursday targeted the Houthi rebel-held capital and multiple ports, while the World Health Organization's director-general said the bombardment occurred nearby as he prepared to board a flight in Sanaa, with a crew member injured. "The air traffic control tower, the departure lounge — just a few meters from where we were — and the runway were damaged," Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on social media. He added that he and U.N. colleagues were safe. "We will need to wait for the damage to the airport to be repaired before we can leave," he said, without mentioning the source of the bombardment. U.N. spokesperson Stephanie Tremblay later said the injured person was with the U.N. Humanitarian Air Service. Israel's army later told The Associated Press it wasn't aware that the WHO chief or delegation were at the location in Yemen. Smoke rises Thursday from the area around the International Airport after an airstrike in Sanaa, Yemen. The Israeli strikes followed several days of Houthi launches setting off sirens in Israel. The Israeli military said in a statement it attacked infrastructure used by the Iran-backed Houthis at the international airport in Sanaa and ports in Hodeida, Al-Salif and Ras Qantib, along with power stations, claiming they were used to smuggle in Iranian weapons and for the entry of senior Iranian officials. Israel's military added it had "capabilities to strike very far from Israel's territory — precisely, powerfully, and repetitively." The strikes, carried out more than 1,000 miles from Jerusalem, came a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said "the Houthis, too, will learn what Hamas and Hezbollah and Assad's regime and others learned" as his military has battled those more powerful proxies of Iran. The Houthi-controlled satellite channel al-Masirah reported multiple deaths and showed broken windows, collapsed ceilings and a bloodstained floor and vehicle. Iran's foreign ministry condemned the strikes. The U.S. military also targeted the Houthis in recent days. The U.N. says the targeted ports are important entryways for humanitarian aid for Yemen, the poorest Arab nation that plunged into a civil war in 2014. Over the weekend, 16 people were wounded when a Houthi missile hit a playground in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, while other missiles and drones were shot down. Last week, Israeli jets struck Sanaa and Hodeida, killing nine people, calling it a response to previous Houthi attacks. The Houthis also have been targeting shipping on the Red Sea corridor, calling it solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. The U.N. Security Council has an emergency meeting Monday in response to an Israeli request that it condemn the Houthi attacks and Iran for supplying them weapons. Relatives and friends mourn over the bodies of five Palestinian journalists Thursday who were killed by an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City at the Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah. Meanwhile, an Israeli strike killed five Palestinian journalists outside a hospital in Gaza overnight, the territory's Health Ministry said. The strike hit a car outside Al-Awda Hospital in the built-up Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. The journalists worked for local news outlet Al-Quds Today, a television channel affiliated with the Islamic Jihad militant group. Islamic Jihad is a smaller and more extreme ally of Hamas and took part in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack in southern Israel that ignited the war. Israel's military identified four of the men as combat propagandists and said that intelligence, including a list of Islamic Jihad operatives found by soldiers in Gaza, confirmed that all five were affiliated with the group. Associated Press footage showed the incinerated shell of a van, with press markings visible on the back doors. The Committee to Protect Journalists says more than 130 Palestinian reporters have been killed since the start of the war. Israel hasn't allowed foreign reporters to enter Gaza except on military embeds. Israel banned the pan-Arab Al Jazeera network and accuses six of its Gaza reporters of being militants. The Qatar-based broadcaster denies the allegations and accuses Israel of trying to silence its war coverage, which has focused heavily on civilian casualties from Israeli military operations. Mourners cry Thursday while they take the last look at the body of a relative, one of eight Palestinians killed, during their funeral in the West Bank city of Tulkarem. Separately, Israel's military said a 35-year-old reserve soldier was killed during fighting in central Gaza. A total of 389 soldiers have been killed in Gaza since the start of the ground operation. The war began when Hamas-led militants stormed across the border, killing around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting about 250. About 100 hostages are still inside Gaza, at least a third of whom are believed to be dead. Israel's air and ground offensive has killed more than 45,000 Palestinians, according to the Health Ministry. It says more than half the fatalities are women and children, but doesn't say how many of the dead were fighters. The offensive caused widespread destruction and hunger and drove around 90% of the population of 2.3 million from their homes. Hundreds of thousands are packed into squalid camps along the coast, with little protection from the cold, wet winter. Also Thursday, people mourned eight Palestinians killed by Israeli military operations in and around Tulkarem in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. The Israeli military said it opened fire after militants attacked soldiers, and it was aware of uninvolved civilians who were harmed in the raid. Get local news delivered to your inbox!

A DEFIANT Mary Lou McDonald has claimed that Sinn Fein have broken the mould of Irish politics as she declared: “Two party politics is now gone. It’s consigned to the dustbin of history.” Mary Lou McDonald today laid out her plan for after the election as she revealed that Sinn Fein will be “actively pursing entrance to government.” Both Fianna Fail and Fine Gael ruled out entering coalition with Sinn Fein in the run up to the election. Mary Lou McDonald – who topped the poll in Dublin Central – today revealed that she plans to reach out to the leaders of left wing parties such as the Social Democrats and the Labour Party to discuss trying to form a government. However, pressed on whether Sinn Fein and the left will have the numbers to form a government, Ms McDonald said: “I think it’s fair to say that we have now confirmed that we have broken the political mould her in this state. “Two party politics is now gone. It’s consigned to the dustbin of history and that in itself is very significant. “The question now arises for us – what do we do with that? And we are clear that we want to change people’s lives and make things better. “The housing crisis – we can not tolerate or sustain another five years. "The cost of living crisis is baring down on people and for our young people in particular we have to get it right here and give them their opportunity at home. That is currently not happening. “We as a political leadership will do everything that we can. We will move heaven, we will move earth to make people’s lives better.” Asked if she believes the numbers are there to form a coalition of the left to lead government, the Sinn Fein leader said: “I am looking to bring about a government of change and I am going to go and look at all formulations. “The bottom line if you want my bottom line – the idea of Fianna Fail and Fine Gael for another five years in our strong opinion is not a good outcome for Irish society. MARY Lou McDonald has reacted to Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch’s vote haul in the general election and claimed: “Nothing in politics surprises me, I’m around far too long.” Gang boss Hutch ran as an independent in the Sinn Fein leader’s Dublin Central constituency and is in the fight for the final seat. Ms McDonald topped the poll in the constituency with Fine Gael’s Paschal Donohoe and Social Democrat Gary Gannon also set to be re-elected. However, the final seat – which is currently held by Neasa Hourigan of the Greens – is still to play for with The Monk and Labour’s Marie Sherlock in the race. Transfers of several candidates will be key to where the final seat goes with The Monk likely to benefit from independent Malachy Steenson’s second preferences. However, Labour’s Marie Sherlock should receive a boost from other left leaning candidates that are still in the race. Asked about her Dublin Central constituency today, Mary Lou McDonald said: “If this doesn’t sound like bragging...actually now I’m going to brag – it’s a hatrick for me in topping the poll in the constituency and I’m really, really proud of that achievement. “The last seat is in the balance. I think it’s going to be a battle royal. I imagine it will go late into the night and into tomorrow before we see where it lands.” Pressed on whether she was surprised by Gerry The Monk Hutch’s 3,000 first preference votes, the Sinn Fein leader said: “Nothing in politics surprises me, I’m around far too long.” “Obviously I want to talk to other parties of the left and those we share significant policy objective with and I’m going to do that first and hear their mind and thinking. “Be very clear – we will be very actively pursing entrance into Government. “It was clear to me when we were going around on the campaign that people want us to take a place in government and they want to see us deliver. “I’m going to do everything I can to establish whether and how that might be possible. That will involve the counting to finish, for us to assess the result in its totality and then obviously conversation and dialogue with others.”
