LSU 109, UCF 102, 3OTDONALD Trump will find a space in his administration for "kindred spirit" Matt Gaetz, but his relationship with Elon Musk is the "million dollar question," a geopolitical expert has said. As Trump's second-term cabinet begins to take shape, an expert has revealed what we can expect that team to look like. Last week, Gaetz , who has been accused of sleeping with a 17-year-old girl and paying her to attend sex parties, stepped down as Trump's pick for attorney general. The former Florida representative denies any wrongdoing but said he had become a distraction to the president-elect's team. But despite his replacement by Pam Bondi, a former Florida attorney general, Randall Schmollinger, a geopolitics expert from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs in New York, has said he believes Trump will find a role for Gaetz. "Matt Gaetz has been an ardent Trump supporter from the very start," he told The U.S. Sun. "He's been a standard bearer for the MAGA movement, and I think he's unlikely to go away." Schmollinger added that he believes Trump will grant Gaetz "some role in that administration, whether in an official capacity, or whether he'll just be someone the president can call upon when he needs advice." Gaetz's return to politics is complicated by the fact that he resigned his seat in the House of Representatives. But Schmollinger explained that Trump will likely call upon Gaetz's ability to "drive people's attention," a characteristic he shares with the Republican. "They are kindred spirits in that way," he added. Increasing attention has been paid to Trump's relationship with X and Tesla boss Elon Musk, who has been one of the president-elect's top backers. Billionaire Musk has been tasked with heading up Trump's new Department of Government Efficiency (also known as DOGE - in reference to the Musk-backed cryptocurrency Dogecoin). In a statement shortly after his election victory earlier in November, Trump said Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy would "dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies." What influence this will give Musk within the Trump administration still remains to be seen, but Schmollinger believes that relationship will be a defining part of his second term. "That is the one-million-dollar question," he said. In the days following his dominant Election Day victory, President-elect Donald Trump has begun carving out his future administation. Here's a list of Trump's confirmed cabinet picks: "Obviously, a lot can happen in the next four years, and they are both big personalities, but I think what we've seen from both of them and what they both recognize in one another, is a certain X-factor, a certain tendency to surprise and to think outside the box about what is going to happen and where they see things going. "Musk has a very well-defined vision in his mind of where he sees American humanity going in the future, and I think Trump is very much the opposite," he said. "He picks a direction and goes that way without much clarity about where it is he's going, so they actually complement each other." Schmollinger added that Musk could bring a "clarifying vision" to Trump's more instinctive style of governance. But that prediction came with a warning. "Both Musk and Trump are going to do whatever they think is best for themselves," he said. "I worry that Musk getting too close to the regulatory environment does give him too much control over the business landscape." Still, Schmollinger pointed to Musk's leadership in the growth of electric vehicles, as well as his takeover of Twitter, as signs that he can use his influence to shape the political agenda under Trump. Musk told a Trump rally in October that he believes the US government budget can be slashed from its current $6.5 trillion by "at least" $2 trillion. He has also called for some 75% of government employees to be made redundant. However, Schmollinger added that he believes the 75% figure is potentially an exaggeration. He said that both Musk and Trump have a tendency to make bold, over-ambitious claims as part of a "public-facing persona," but to be more open to compromise behind the scenes. That being said, Schmollinger added that a drastic act from Musk's DOGE agency should not be ruled out. "We've seen him do that with Twitter before where he got in there and cut 75% of the workforce and still had a functional app," he said. "But Musk doesn't know what it is to have a government agency and what it is to work within Washington. "I don't think that he is going to cut 75% of the government overnight."
Massive Elon Musk donation news to me, says Farage - BBC.comSurface Disinfectant Market to Reach USD 10.3 Billion by 2032 Driven by Rising Demand for Healthcare Applications | Report by SNS InsiderNEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks tiptoed to more records amid a mixed Tuesday of trading, tacking a touch more onto what’s already been a stellar year so far. The S&P 500 edged up by 2 points, or less than 0.1%, to set an all-time high for the 55th time this year. It’s climbed in 10 of the last 11 days and is on track for one of its best years since the turn of the millennium. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 76 points, or 0.2%, while the Nasdaq composite added 0.4% to its own record set a day earlier. AT&T rose 4.6% after it boosted its profit forecast for the year. It also announced a $10 billion plan to send cash to its investors by buying back its own stock, while saying it expects to authorize another $10 billion of repurchases in 2027. On the losing end of Wall Street was U.S. Steel, which fell 8%. President-elect Donald Trump reiterated on social media that he would not let Japan’s Nippon Steel take over the iconic Pennsylvania steelmaker. Nippon Steel announced plans last December to buy the Pittsburgh-based steel producer for $14.1 billion in cash, raising concerns about what the transaction could mean for unionized workers, supply chains and U.S. national security. Earlier this year, President Joe Biden also came out against the acquisition. Tesla sank 1.6% after a judge in Delaware reaffirmed a previous ruling that the electric car maker must revoke Elon Musk’s multibillion-dollar pay package. The judge denied a request by attorneys for Musk and Tesla’s corporate directors to vacate her ruling earlier this year requiring the company to rescind the unprecedented pay package. All told, the S&P 500 rose 2.73 points to 6,049.88. The Dow fell 76.47 to 44,705.53, and the Nasdaq composite gained 76.96 to 19,480.91. In the bond market, Treasury yields held relatively steady after a report showed U.S. employers were advertising slightly more job openings at the end of October than a month earlier. Continued strength there would raise optimism that the economy could remain out of a recession that many investors had earlier worried was inevitable. The yield on the 10-year Treasury rose to 4.23% from 4.20% from late Monday. Yields have seesawed since Election Day amid worries that Trump’s preferences for lower tax rates and bigger tariffs could spur higher inflation along with economic growth. But traders are still confident the Federal Reserve will cut its main interest rate again at its next meeting in two weeks. They’re betting on a nearly three-in-four chance of that, according to data from CME Group. Lower rates can give the economy more juice, but they can also give inflation more fuel. The key report this week that could guide the Fed’s next move will arrive on Friday. It’s the monthly jobs report , which will show how many workers U.S. employers hired and fired during November. It could be difficult to parse given how much storms and strikes distorted figures in October. Based on trading in the options market, Friday’s jobs report appears to be the biggest potential market mover until the Fed announces its next decision on interest rates Dec. 18, according to strategists at Barclays Capital. In financial markets abroad, the value of South Korea’s currency fell 1.1% against the U.S. dollar following a frenetic night where President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law and then later said he’d lift it after lawmakers voted to reject military rule. Stocks of Korean companies that trade in the United States also fell, including a 1.6% drop for SK Telecom. Japan’s Nikkei 225 jumped 1.9% to help lead global markets. Some analysts think Japanese stocks could end up benefiting from Trump’s threats to raise tariffs , including for goods coming from China . Trade relations between the U.S. and China took another step backward after China said it is banning exports to the U.S. of gallium, germanium, antimony and other key high-tech materials with potential military applications. The counterpunch came swiftly after the U.S. Commerce Department expanded the list of Chinese technology companies subject to export controls to include many that make equipment used to make computer chips, chipmaking tools and software. The 140 companies newly included in the so-called “entity list” are nearly all based in China. In China, stock indexes rose 1% in Hong Kong and 0.4% in Shanghai amid unconfirmed reports that Chinese leaders would meet next week to discuss planning for the coming year. Investors are hoping it may bring fresh stimulus to help spur growth in the world’s second-largest economy. In France, the CAC 40 rose 0.3% amid continued worries about politics in Paris , where the government is battling over the budget. AP Business Writers Yuri Kageyama and Matt Ott contributed.
Mikaela Shiffrin has abrasion after crash in World Cup giant slalomCam Carter put LSU ahead for good with a jumper 1:08 into the third overtime and the Tigers came away with a wild 109-102 win over UCF on Sunday in the third-place game of the Greenbrier Tip-Off in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. Carter's make sparked a 5-0 spurt for LSU (5-1), which mounted a ferocious second-half rally that began after Darius Johnson drilled a 3-pointer to put the Knights up 52-34 with 12:57 to play in regulation. UCF (4-2) got back within two in the third overtime, but it never found a way to draw even. Vyctorius Miller and Jordan Sears sealed the victory, combining for three buckets down low that gave the Tigers a 106-99 cushion with 17 seconds remaining. Carter was the late-game hero for LSU, scoring the final four points of regulation to forge a 70-70 tie. He also knocked down a go-ahead 3-pointer with 3:19 left in the first extra session to give the Tigers a 76-75 advantage. Sears gave LSU a four-point edge with a triple of his own with 2:10 to go, but the Tigers failed to stay in front, and UCF's Keyshawn Hall kept the game going by sinking two free throws with six seconds remaining to make it 82-82. Neither team led by more than three in the second overtime, with Hall again coming to the Knights' rescue. He made two layups in the final 52 seconds of the frame to knot things at 93 and send the teams to a third OT. Few could have predicted 15 minutes of extra basketball after UCF put together a 25-3 first-half run that lifted it to a 38-18 advantage with 2:12 left until the break. LSU responded with seven unanswered points, but the Knights still led comfortably, 40-25, at intermission. Sears finished with a game-high-tying 25 points to go along with nine boards, while Jalen Reed recorded a 21-point, 13-rebound double-double for the Tigers. Carter netted 20 points, Miller had 16 and Dji Bailey chipped in 14. Johnson collected 25 points, six rebounds, eight assists and five steals for UCF. Hall totaled 21 points and 10 boards, and Jordan Ivy-Curry supplied 20 points. LSU outshot UCF 43.2 percent to 40.7 percent and had narrow advantages from behind the arc (12 made shots to 10) and the free-throw line (21-18). --Field Level Media
