PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Phillies have signed closer Jordan Romano to a one-year contract, making a short-term bet that the right-hander can return to form following a right elbow injury. The Phillies announced the deal on Monday. They did not provide the terms of the agreement, but it is reportedly worth $8.5 million. An All-Star in 2022 and 2023, Romano spent the first six seasons of his major league career with the Toronto Blue Jays. He has 105 career saves and a 2.90 ERA in 231 relief appearances. Of the 17 pitchers in the majors with at least 100 save opportunities since 2019, Romano’s 88.98% save percentage ranks second, trailing only Josh Hader (187 for 210, 89.04%). Among all pitchers in baseball since 2019, Romano’s 105 saves rank ninth. The 31-year-old Romano was limited to just eight saves in 15 games last season. He had arthroscopic surgery on his elbow in July. Romano's arrival could lead to the departures of one or both of Carlos Estévez and Jeff Hoffman from Philadelphia. The concept, which sees electrolysers powered by a mix of renewables including wind and solar, will now incorporate wave energy to ensure a greater balance of green electricity. Supported by grant funding from the Dutch Government’s GroenvermogenNL TSE (Top Sector Energie) scheme, SwitcH2 is aiming to launch a new open-sea project in northern Portugal utilizing CorPower Ocean’s wave energy technology. SwitcH2’s NH3-FPSO unit involves the use of a new built vessel, nearly the size of a VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier), to support a 300MW electrolysis plant on deck. The final output is green ammonia, which is temporarily stored in pressurised tanks in the vessel and then exported to shore via dedicated shuttle carriers. The floating facility is expected to reach an annual production capacity of almost 300 kton of green ammonia – enough to fuel multiple oceangoing vessels for a full year. The project anticipates green ammonia production by 2029. With an established role in the global fertilizer market, the green ammonia market is expected to grow from USD 0.7 billion in 2024 to USD 55 billion by 2032. Because of its high energy density and ease of storage, green ammonia also holds major significance as the preferred fuel choice to decarbonize the global shipping industry – responsible for roughly 3% of global emissions. SwitcH2 Director and co-founder Saskia Kunst said: “We are extremely pleased with our collaboration with CorPower Ocean as integrating their promising wave energy adds economic benefits to our already competitive offshore production system. And now, as the latest group of unwitting celebrities settles into jungle life for series 24, the JLS singer – who finished fifth on last year’s show – has some words of advice. “It’s really boring and it’s practical advice, but they’ve got to make the food stretch,” he says. “I can’t tell you how much we take for granted things like salt and pepper and sugar and seasoning. The food is so, so bland. There can be lots of sitting around in not comfortable places, like a wooden log, and obviously the food situation is tough. There were rats running around in the Bush Telegraph.
